Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

IMO we need one or two mentors for a Yr or two.

Players who are near the end, who would play both in our seniors & @ Casey, to help us learn & to Mentor our young with Onfield professional & winning culture.

Chappy is reputedly the one who stood up at that Cats meeting so many years ago and demanded more of a professional attitude from the Cats.

He has the guts to do what he sees as the right thing, instead of sitting on his hands.

He has the aggressive winning attitude onfield we sadly miss. He won't go into his shell.

Apparently we need to spend some salary cap as we wait for our Kids to mature into Real Players who would then expect a higher salary.

Chappy IMO is one who fits the bill, for a healthy 2 Yr contract to help convince him, & is an Unrestricted Free Agent.

We could also afford another, to help balance our books, and eradicate the poor culture.

I'm not done yet, says 30-year-old Geelong star Paul Chapman

I would prefer to give the spot to a kid.

Chappy would be a band aid.

I would prefer our culture not be so corrosive to talent.

Sewell, Enright, Chapman - yes they are a sort term solution but we need help to fix a culture of ease and laziness and they will help.

More kids isn't the answer, the answer is setting standards and meeting them and getting games upon meeting them.

Do you send your kids to college, are any of them apprentices?

Would you let them do a cadetship with an ordinary firm, that doesn't do such great work?

I don't think it's a bandaid..

Recruiting montagna would be a bandaid & costly one ending up going nowhere. Jones is better than montana.

Been a great player Chappie no doubt. But not for me now. Does nothing for our speed requirement, has had lots of soft tissue injury which age doesn't help, is not tall and I don't much like the idea of being a pension fund for those 30+. IMO I think we should be looking for real class in the 23 - 26 bracket.

Bennell was recruited based on his gamestyle, run/skill, and athletic abilities. He was allowed, & even had games thrown at him to 'Fastrack' him... he didn't have to 'Earn' those games, & he' hasn't learned to overcome his fear.

Morton the same was based on his 'Tank' & 'height' would be elite...

No we need tough bastards to push these kids Now, while they still have time to learn &overcome & adjust. They need playing mentors. Not the same old same old elders who have failed to instill the hardass attitudes & mongrel required to survive & flourish in this 'Comp'.

Chappy has, & took the whole Cats club to task ?& succeeded in getting the cats players onside with the program.

He's the type we do need to help shift a cosy flagging attitude.

We have Blease, Nicholson, & can recruit more pace with our early picks. I posted earlier that chappy wouldn't cost much to trade into our list, & then realised free agency, we'd get him for Nicks, contract $$$$ & a transfer.

Like the cosy bit and the toughness/mongrel bit. Chappy acouple of years ago would have been fantastic, but at 30 what would we get? One maybe two years if he remained totally injury free. I'm happy to disagree on this one.

Hmmm... Don't know if he would be great for us playing wise, and I highly doubt he would leave the Cats, but he'd be another contender for a coaching role the minute he walks off the field for the last time though.

Would he prefer to stay at Geelong and end his days as a one club player? Leaving as a FA would perhaps dilute his legacy down in Sleepy Hollow. Some players are not concerned with this. To others this is important, especially if they have played during a great flag era.

If he was available to us, I guess we'd have to weigh up what he would provide (and cost) in only one or two years, as opposed to a 25/26/27 year old high level player who might be with us for 4-5 yrs, into a so-called premiership window.

These sorts of issues are going to be more and more important in the next few years as FAs and RFAs come into the picture.

What do other think about FAs vs RFAs?

You'd get an onfield leader, someone who could help maintain belief & hard at it ways. He'd help with the attitudes onfield, and point the right direction when things are tough or when someones not doing the right thing. He could teach.

Likely he may only play one season, or a bit more, or he may surprise..doesn't matter..

Class leadership & character in a player who shows in spades, what we haven't been able to.

Get Ling as a coach/ass kicking mentor. He knows what it takes to play, win premierships and build a culture for years to come. A perfect fit.

I have faith in our current coaching staff to do their job.

I would much rather take a player who has at least 6 or 7 years ahead of them than Chapman.

I would take Sewell in a heartbeat. He is a few years younger than Chapman though. There is no way that we will lure him away from the hawks though. So i find little reason discussing him.

Chappy may look past it at the cats, but he is quality and would be in the top 5-10 players at our club easy, regadless of if he was a better player 2 years ago

I'd love to see him in our team

Having re-built with kids ,we must stay the course .

Buying wash-ups now would be a bad move .

Culture is one thing that you cant buy .

It must be organic .

Stay the course? We'd be employing him as an onfield teacher. Not a pupil.

His attitude is just what the doctor orders. No passivity.

Ask you a question, who has done better? Sheedy & his GWS 1st Yr plans, or GCSuns & they're 2nd Year plans? Sheedy has mature bodies & class old Heads to teach & direct.

Though I agree with youth & long term etc

We also need to consider that having a player like chapman would bring positives & help install all the values to our young list, hardness, commitment, mental toughness!

We are too quick to look at age etc his experience would help & build leadership!

As a free agent, he and kids wouldn't be mutually exclusive, and if he is as outspoken and inspirational to his teammates as suggested then he could be a very good man to put in the mix - as pointed out, as a teacher as well or even more so than as a player.

Well Deeluded you are uncannily thinking like the club.

The club sees the need to recruit good players from great clubs who will give us 2-3 years. You are spot on and someone like Chappy will be closely looked at for all the reasons you have mentioned.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
