try package our 2nd rounder and mid-first rounder. then tell gws they can have our first rounder for first 17 yr old

with that, we can get 17 yr older, stringer/toumpas, boak and viney (3rd round) (if GC dont bid, which is a high possibility)

Cloke (On big coin)

Martin (First 17 year old for our first rounder)

Toumpas/Stringer (First compo pick)

Boak (Mid-round compo pick + 2nd round pick)

Viney (3rd Round Pick)

Can we trade picks from PSD? I am sure a player here and there can make the above feasible

What has the world come to when we are rating the ability of a player based on DT score.

Hey, it's just one measure. I agree, we need to look at all the indicators. That's my point. Let's be sure.

Posted

how have i not taken into account the f/s bidding? if we are already discussing things with port then whats stopping us from discussing things with GWS. And in my scenario i did mention (IF gc dont bid) meaning i understand that the bidding process is before trade week

You've said we can pick up Viney with a 3rd round pick. Not a chance in hell.

Dont forget whilst our midfield this season has been underperforming at some stages badly we still have some talent come through with Blease, Gysberts, Taggart, Couch. We really need some speedsters in the line up that can break the lines through the middle.

If Neeld and the club want Boak? Get Him. We need more blokes at that 25 age group who can play. Neeld said they are targeting more mature blokes this year.

hmmm oh yeh damn, looks like i was assuming side-deals would be made but then we wouldn't be able to make it with everyteam

would need to look like this then

Cloke (On big coin)

Martin (First 17 year old for our first rounder)

Toumpas/Stringer (First compo pick)

Boak (Mid-round compo pick + 3rd round pick or possible 2nd round pick upgrade? if thats possible? anyone know the rules about this? or PSD pick if possible? or a good player who wont get a game with all these players added. We can try to make some of our fringe players look good before seasons end if we play against bad teams)

Viney (2nd Round Pick)

Posted

Anyone know if once we lock Viney in with our 2nd rounder, if its possible to still swap our 2nd round pick? so another team gets an upgrade. Could be useful for trade scenario's. We could do a 2nd round swap with Collingwood, so it would be say pick 22 for pick 36 or so?

All good fun but no way do we cough up pick 4 for Boak.

Be happy to get him to the club under another scenario, though.

Boak and pick #? to the Pies via MFC in exchange for Beams.

Posted (edited)

Somehow with some dodgy deal.....we can dream....((For fun))

Pick # 3 Jake Stringer if not available then Nick Vlastuin

Pick #4 Jesse Hogan, pick #4 to GWS

Pick #12 Travis Boak or Dayne Beams

Pick #22 Jack Viney F/S.

To let Viney slip. Be nice!

Petterd to GC

Spencer, Bate, Bennel to GWS - need a ruckman!

F/A to walk to the Dee's: Mature players with finals experience.

Shannon Byrnes?

Clinton Young

Brendan Goddard

Oh well, wishful thinking!

Has anyone seen Dayne Beams play with a tag?

I've seen a lot of the great players struggle with a tag.

What's your point?

Haven't seen bugger all of Boak but Id rather take our chances plucking a gem or 2 in the draft.

I'm circumspect on Beams. Has played half a season of A-grade footy (with A-grade midfield support) but for me it's not enough yet to take such a huge, big money punt on him.

Prefer the safer option of Boak who's shown what he's capable over 3 or 4 seasons, with very little support in a poor midfield.

But I wouldn't pay overs for him ... pick 4 being that IMO.

If we could structure some kind of trade (see Jose Mourinho's post #8 on page 1) or use pick 13 for him, then by all means we should go for it. But for mine Boak is not a top-5 draft pick worthy sacrifice in what is reportedly a very strong 'pointy-end' draft.

I think Boak fits the mould of the new moneyball Melbourne.

Neeld certainly seems to have projected an idea of what he needs to form a successful team and the FD is picking up the ball on this.

Yeah, as that's worked out so well in recent times.

Don't forget, we will still be "taking our chances" in the draft regardless of if we get Boak or not. We have 3 first round picks, approx 3, 4 & 11. Worst case, we have to use Pick 3 on Viney, there's one "chance". That means we still have Pick 4 & 11, with the latter used in the Boak trade (I don't think we need to use Pick 4, especially if Clark was worth Pick 12). That means we still keep Pick 4 for another "chance".

You get your wish - 2 great "chances" in the draft, and I get mine - Boak.

Pick 11 and another bazillion dollars.

Keep in mind the notion of a pick 4 is NOT presently coming from MFC...but purely speculation form the media. MFC has obviously been talking to Port about deals. I think we would just have to wait and see what the REAL worth is

I suspect the article is also intended as a shot across Boak's bow to say "if you leave Port, you won't necessarily end up in Geelong..."

Does anyone actually watch Port play?

Travis Boak would immediately be our number 1 midfielder. Currently as the primary midfielder in a poor midfield group he has had 25+ possessions on 50% of his games played this year. 5 of 10 he has had minimum 4 tackles. 6 of 10 he has had minimum 4 clearances.

I am not saying we should use it but anyone who thinks pick 4 is overs and a speculative kid makes more sense is kidding themselves.

I'll admit I'have not seen hardly any port games but if he is that good why does supercoach say otherwise, very poor numbers. How good does he use it once he gets it?

Keep in mind deals often include a swap of picks etc. i.e we might get change also.

If Melbourne offer #4 for Bpak I will have a stroke!!!

#12 was used for Mitch Clark, lets not forget that!!!

Interesting times though, its all brewing in the background.....2 days ago the Dees were favourites to secure the top two 17 year olds, Hogan & Martin as GWS wanted the picks, today we are pushing for Boak. I'd love to be a fly on the wall!

Who knows maybe we will cough up the two priority picks to GWS for the youngsters, so GWS can get Boak. Ahh the joys of the drafting period!

Travis Boak:

Averages 22.4 disposals @ 64.3% efficiency.

Averages 3.2 marks, 3.7 clearances & 3.3 tackles per game.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
