Epicentre apparently near Moe 121 Klms from Melbourne. 5.2.

I don't like the idea of throwing fake money. And I don't think the money is what has made us angry about the whole farce. Tom Scully was two-faced, lied the whole season and gave us absolutely nothing in return. He's a bag of s..t basically. But we're trying to draw midfielders away with cash ourselves, nothing wrong with it if they're open and honest about it.

You could argue that Mitch Clark joined us for the money, even though I don't think that's all there is to it. Besides I've got so much man-love for the guy that he can join us for whatever reason he likes. Still, I think it puts him in a difficult spot and it shows that we're focusing on the wrong aspect of how Scully f..ked us anyway. Would much prefer to see LIAR banners in the stands then guys throwing wads of money about. The image is amusing in my head though.

Did you just suggest we throw bags of s..t at the greedy lying weasel?

Awesome.

the only way I will EVER 'get over' the anger this whole episode has caused me, is if I see Scully chronically injured with his career in tatters and/or I see the compo picks we got produce some very good player(s)

simple as that

Maybe not injured, but career stuffed and the wider footbal world knowing what scum he and his family are.

I have sat through 18 months of monotonous cr@p on the Scully situation and for the first time here are my thoughts on the whole saga:

(Note: I would encourage certain other posters to be similarly economical in their postings!)

Scully “Lying”

  • This really only occurred at the press conference (that Melbourne forced him to do) and also when asked directly by Jim Stynes
  • HOWEVER, under the current AFL system, much in contrast to the NRL, even if he had made up his mind by then, he couldn’t come clean, because of the very real risk he wouldn’t play again all season (NB: comments by Primus and Roos about what they would do in similar situations. Primus has hinted Boak will not play again if he decides to leave Port).
This just shows the immaturity of the AFL system (compared to NRL) in dealing with a player who makes the decision to move on. Both parties (player and club) should have the maturity to continue their employment relationship until the end of the player’s contract.
  • Given this I feel Scully had little choice but to conceal his intentions when put on the spot.

Scully’s Decision

  • The man was offered $6m for Christ’s sake, and given his rumoured issues with Melbourne’s culture etc. the decision was a no-brainer.
  • I certainly hold no grudges against him for the decision.

Is Melbourne better Off?

I believe YES.

We lost:

  • Scully (a #1 draft pick); and
  • Freed up approx $600k of salary cap space (I think that’s what we offered him).

We gained:

  • Approx picks 4 and 13. Time will tell if we win out of this, however for a number one pick with a dodgy knee I tend to consider it is reasonable. (I acknowledge that no one would ever trade away pick 1 in a draft in exchange for pick 4 and 13, however Scully’s value had depreciated considerably over his first two years to be substantially less than that of a number one pick).
  • We used the salary cap space to pay Mitch Clark. IMO this is a much better use of this cap space and is the reason we win out of the situation.

Should Scully be Booed

  • Sure, why not? It’s AFL tradition to boo a player who leaves your club.
  • I don’t think it’s at all offensive. If anything it shows respect for Scully’s ability and the fact that he meant something to Melbourne fans. As a comparison I seriously doubt WB fans will be booing Sam Reid given he was a virtual nobody at their club.
  • Throw Monopoly money at him if you want, however anything like this only legitimises Scully as a “big name” worthy of such petty displays.
  • IMO the best thing to do is nothing at all, as this shows he’s not even worthy of our contempt.

On the contrary I strongly encourage all Melbourne fans to show the utmost respect for Junior McDonald and cheer him at every opportunity.

/EndRant

No problem with your summary, actually agree with you

EXCEPT

all he had to do was say I am not allowed to comment.and I would have said fair enough but he chose to deliberately

lie to Jimma and the rest of us instead; it is the same as a middle finger and I don't like those.

From the Hun this morning:

"Jones said Melbourne supporters would make Scully a target. "For sure and I expect them to," he said.

..............................................................................

Jones said the approach to former Dees captain James McDonald would be different.

"He's highly respected," he said."

says it all really.. Junior is respected...unlike Scummy who is fair game.

Who cares if we throw money? It will be hilarious and original instead of the classic 'boo'. Its something unexpected and different, the people on here saying we should just take the high road and not do anything about it in my opinion have their head in the sand. I feel by not doing anything it sends a message that its ok for someone to just get up and walk out after lying and dragging our club through the mud. Show we are upset and angry about the way he handled it but do it in a tasteful way.

Finals over.

Not sure it's as apt against GWS.

Well of course not...

But something in that vein would be fine.

"Was that worth $2m?"

"What position is Phil playing?"

etc.

Got a good little chuckle out of that one!

On throwing monopoly money at Scully, got to admit I think that's being a touch dramatic. For me the lying was the biggest issue for me. I get Skills32's point on why he did it, that he would have been concerned about Melbourne's reaction to it, but I think our desire to win would've outweighed any thoughts of putting him in the VFL. Again I agree that the AFL is very immature with players moving on, fact is we're a professional sport so that should work at both ends with Scully playing is best while at our club and the club respecting his move and playing him because he would've been in out best 22. We were paying him, why wouldn't we make him earn it?

I do harbour ill will towards Scully, but not for the money he went for. None of us can honestly say what we'd do in his situation because it is a completely ridiculous situation that GWS put him in. He lied to us, lied to Jimma's face, and I'm sure the players (and supporters) will make sure he knows it come Sunday.

Is it me or why the hell is anyone the least bit concerned about seeming PC about any of this.

Get some passion.. Give them Hell. Make not only GWS but any of its supporters know every minute they at our home...their Hell.

They are welcome to the G...but on our terms.....and condition number one is there WILL be pain !!

not sure if its been suggested previously, but I reckon we should all make a visit to the candy store and grab bags of those chocolate gold coins and hurl them down the race as he runs out. That way fat phil can be fed after. We can watch the fat [censored] pick them up one by one...

That sort of logic isn't appreciated around here.

I hope ya'all have got your Monopoly money ready for tomorrow.

Toss it and wave it about at the GW$ interchange dugout, player's race and in the crowd.

Huge bonus points if you can shower $cully himself in it.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
