I know that he hasn't played a single game of senior footy while his counterpart Darling is currently ripping sides new a>>holes at senior AFL level. That's what I know.

And why did he get passed up 25 times before being selected? Several reasons. Only us, the Suns, Carlton and WC were in the market for a KPF early in the draft. Every other club went for mid-sized types.

We (like Carlton) baulked at selecting him because we were duped by a classic recruiting sting operation which led everyone to believe he was Ned Kelly incarnate.

Stop making excuses for sh1thouse recruiting.

An example of how stupid your reasoning is?

Darling is 191cm, that's "mid-sized type".

Howe is 190cm and looks far more of a likely type than Darling has (even moreso in an underperforming side).

To put it bluntly, get over the Darling man-crush. He really isn't that good.

I have never dissed Lucas Cook. He didn't choose to be drafted to us. We did.

In 2-3-4 years he may be a gun. Hope so.

But the fact remains Jack Darling would assist us now. And this club needs a rise NOW.

,WYL you can't have it both ways you said we butchered the pick by taking Cook. over Darling.

We did. Cook is a project player.

Jack Darling was ready to go.

This club needs wins now. That is the difference. Never have i blamed cook. But he is surplus and BP is now working at Carlscum.

Thanks.

WYL if you believe DARLING would turn this side around and would have had the same impact with us last year that he had at Meth Coast you are mistaken

I forgot to add one thing at the end of my last post...and that was:

Cue the recruiting apologists who will list Darling's height as evidence that he's not a key forward in 3 - 2 - 1 ...

My ring. A star is a star is a star is a star.

"Really isn't that good". Say it a million times to yourself and who knows it may come true.

I hope we get to see Cook this year, it's time for him to get a taste, he's in good form now and GWS would be a good opportunity for him. Time to get the project off the ground.

Yes because when he doesn't kick a bag in his first few hit out's demonland will go into meltdown

Recruiting apologist?? Not selecting Naitanui was the biggest drafting mistake in the history of the MFC, I've said some things to that effect but unlike yourself I'm not posting about it weekly... how would that help anything?

Darling really is a decent ordinary player in a great team. If he was doing what he's doing over at GWS or Gold Coast, I'd be impressed. But he isn't, so I'm not.

I think a lot of arm-chair recruiters pencilled in Darling with their number 12 pick in that draft and that every positive thing he does confirms their "correct choice" (paying no attention to the negatives). Nevermind the best recruiting teams money can buy also passing up the opportunity to select Darling, the arm-chair recruiters were 100% correct.

WYL- If you think Darling would help us now may I suggest this: We have Clark now. Clark is better than Darling. Are we winning games?

What's that? Can't hear you. All I hear is crickets...

Think before you talk smack. Everyone passed on Darling and yet you still stick the boots into our recruiting. You still blame us for fudging the Scully pick. I have news for you- if we passed on Scully there would have been heads called for and Demonland would have shitted itself.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. You can't predict the future, but you have no problems blaming us for not. Can I have the lottery results for next powerball please?

I beg your pardon?? Mitch Clark & Jack Darling could and should be playing in the 2012 side complimenting each other RIGHT NOW.

Back to clown school with that arguement. I expect better from you Sloonie.

Whatev's man, maybe take up yoga or pilates or something. Howe at 33 was a steal. Jack Darling can lick my left nut.

Well now we know how you get your Rocks off.

Darling is way better than an average player in a good side.

Our recruiters got spooked. QED.

So what if you're right? Crying Jack Darling like you're Mel Gibson in Braveheart isn't helping anyone. Our head of recruiting from that draft's moved on anyway.

Is this another one of those 'we have to demand better as Melbourne supporters' moments? Get over it dude.

It really hurts and depresses me everytime Jack Darling plays well as he did tonight.

Meth Coke conned all of Victoria. He was such a bad boy.

Get some recruiters who do thorough esearch MFC.

HE HAS DONE NO WRONG.

He has had a poor season so far, has played a couple of good games how do you get caught up on this so much?

Cook kicking 7 in 2 weeks as a CHF in the VFL is quite exciting imo

The head of recruiting from that draft yes has been booted. And we the shareholders must suck it up.

Oh damn I thought this was going to be a 2001 draft thread, where Dane Swan went at 58 and we had pick 55, aww how our recruiters stuffed it, brad miller at 55 why not swan, oh god life is so bad.

Facts stand The guy would compliment Motch Clark beautifully.

And the recruiting staff of the day have moved on.

The picked $cully & did not draft Darling.

Epic Fail.

Just a little note. No team drafts every gun player.

The rest ... you're just guessing. You don't know what research MFC did on Darling.

Scully was the right pick. As is Cook. Darling shmarling.

Excuse me. What is so inane about the ability of Jack Darling?

I am just talking about his form on the park. He is a solid performer weekly. We have a forward line that struggles to kick 10 Goals a game.

The research our recruiting department did on Darling was either not enough or just plain wrong.

He hasn't put a foot wrong on or off the ground since being picked up so why should you say my words are wildly innacurate on this topic?

Nobody likes being wrong, but on this one the MFC were just that.

Really? why then did Darling get passed up 25 times before being selected?

And remind me again what you know about Cook to make this idiotic judgement?

He knows cook is yet to Play thats what he knows

Geesus why cant people here agree that he recruiting was very very poor and move on

That said some here called it early much to the derision of others here who seem to support anything and all the club does coz their Loyal or some thing

Plety here were dissapointed that Martin and Darling were not picked at the time

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
