'The bloke was a good player and made some comments on TV I like, so he would be a really good Coach'...?

Dennis Cometti wasn't a bad player and I reckon he'd bring a lyrical game style and a dry humour to our forwards - who clearly need it with the delivery they get.

Would love to see him take over our midfield coaching position. Fresh out of the game, and played in grand finals, captained the best football side in our era. Ling has everything we need for our young midfielders to learn from. Has played on the best midfielders the game has seen, and more often than not limited there involvement. If MFC are serious they should get rid of the out-dated "Hack Royal" and target Ling!!! Get Him

We;re going to need a bigger headquarters if we get all of the people that are being suggested :-)

I'd love to see him as a playing midfield coach... Offer him a nice inducement for 1 or 2 years to play, & help onfield setups, as well as at training.

well we won't get all of them, but we want the best of them.

Just as we do with the players, in it to win it.

His speech to the GWS players was really good.. Would make our midfield stand taller.

Watched a small snippet of pep-talk he gave the GWS kids the other day.

At least get him for one of those...

Poor Brian Royal.

To the question of why is the midfield bad, the answer from MFC supporters is 'Brian' and 'Royal'...

Personally, I think it isn't so stupidly simple as the line coach, but that's just rpfc being rpfc.

I think this idea has been raised before, but we could certainly do a lot worse. I would be thrilled if we signed up Lingy.

Yep, there is already a thread on this.

Dont often agree RPFC but you are absolutely correct

It must be diffficult for any line coach when all you have is 1 Huff no Puff "leader" unfit skinny players poorly skilled players and immature lets all get the ball syndrome

Nobody can work with that lot easily the worst midfield in the league

Scott West?

Mark Neeld was in charge of Collingwood's midfield when they won the flag in 2010.

Let's get him.

I'm sorry. Are you putting him on a playing contract?

Even though Royal is in the Bulldogs Hall of Fame I would play Ling ahead of him...

If we are talking about the midfield line coach - I don't know how he is going, I can't tell you what we should attribute to him in his first year as mids line coach.

I always read on here how bad he is, but never any substance. I want substance.

I'm addicted to substances...

Only for some rpfc.

I too don't consider Royal the crux of the problem but hey, on face value, Ling does have some appeal.

Don't really care about Chocos feelings .Just get him out of there and get me results .Cannot comprehend why he is still there .

I don't think you read my post clearly, I am less worried about Royal's feelings than I am with the thought patterns of Melbourne supporters:

Melbourne + Brian Royal = Melbourne's Midfield is Terrible

Melbourne - Brian Royal = "Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows, Everything that's wonderful is what I feel when we're together"

Has a lot of respect amongst the younger players, was a good move by GWS to get him to speak with the players after the game. but as has been said he is busy with business and may not have the time. Can always ask the question though.

Is it Royal or the Cattle?? Or both?

I think it is more the cattle who know the end is near.

That said, Cameron Ling's performance in the 2011 GF was all class.

A big battering ram/Sherman Tank.

He communicates well...

Get this coach - get that coach. How about some of the players get some heart and pride in the jumper. It doesnt matter who the coach is - this "stuff" has got to come from inside a player and not be coaxed by some put on a pedestal people trainer

Annoys me that Hird has Bomber next to him in games and Neeld has him .

Got any ideas Chocco?

The old Beamer /Jamar thing isn't working .

Nathan Jones is improving every year .

The others seem to be reversing.

May be he'd consider a part time roll? He'd be a get for our midfield......

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
