Sacking Norm Smith.

Sacking Norm Smith.

smith got sacked because of his role in barassi's departure. both barasssi and smith were considering their options vis a vis carlton and richmond at the end of '64 (Red Fox). Melbourne's list was heading south around this time. no full forward no centre half forward no ruck. over-reliance on smith's despotism. other clubs using money to buy premierships. this trend continue until late '80's and more money buying premierships. finals-wise we have had a pretty good run in the afl until the end of the daniher era, we now seem to be reverting to type. melbourne still seen as a team of gentleman footballers a la tom wills and current-day player blazers.

Was looking for you tonight WYL. The above... isn't your best.

It is the truth & until the club actually sucks it up and truly believes it nothing will change.

Some players need to hand back their new Blazers tonight.

1. Sacking Junior. ( Only real leader we have had since Neita)

2. Not recruiting Nic Nat. ( We are in desperate need of a superstar)

3. Picking Scully instead of Martin.( probably couldnt have foreseen this one)

4. Not convincing G.Lyon to coach us. ( The only one that couldve made something of us)

1. I agree.

2. Nic Nat isn't a superstar.

3. There is not a single team that wouldn't have taken Scully with pick 1.

4. How the hell do you think we would do this. Lyon has said forever he does not want to coach and has never changed from this. I think Lyon has done enough for us already.

No, it isn't.

Hahahaha if you think we have achieved anything since 1964 I'd love to hear about it. I've been following the Demons since 1987 and I haven't witnessed any success whatsoever only heartbreak & misery from teams which either show promise but don't fulfil it or teams that just don't even front up.

So tell me what i have missed. I am all ears....?

I'm not going to play this game WYL. Suffice to say I've been in your corner for a long time re expression of opinion.

Re Gonzo .. as above.

So what do you gauge as success Trident? Hawthorn have won 10 flags since '71. That is success. We have not even gone close to anything like that.

Don't run away from the truth. Accept it and learn.

What you dont mention is what a farce the club is at board level

we need a really strong no nonsence president and board

Gee they again showed thsi week how weak they are

The club across the board stands for nothing

How was the board weak this week?

No.

"We have achieved nothing since '64"

Don't sugar coat the statement Trident. We have achieved no cups since '64. That is the aim of the club, or should be.

We have been so wide of that mark.

That was a huge one. He is still a clearance specialist. Great player.

Heard Scotty on the radio with the ox. Huge loss to us. But i can't hate him. Don't quite no why!!

OK. Not going to [censored]-4-tat beyond this reply. The Statement was simply "We have achieved nothing since '64"

If you meant to say, "We have not achieved a premiership since 1964" then you would be 100% correct. Otherwise, sorry, but you're full of [censored].

The sad thing is that leaving aside Jones, our best mid is a 2nd game VFL player and he is a mile ahead of the next bloke.

I maybe full of [censored] in your eyes. But please tell me what this club has achieved since '64. It is a fair question considering the amount of $$$ i have pumped into this limp organization since 2008.

I have faith in our new coach. But please do not glorify the past since '64.

I think some people forget wyl we have been around since then.

While nothing might be a little strong it is not far off that.

There are days when I wish the merger with Hawthorn had gone through.

Imagine how happy we would be tonight.

It all depends on your definition of success OD. Jimmy knew it.

This club has high morals but no muscle. It must change otherwise we are dead.

Since 1971 three night flags is not acceptable to me. And now we face "another 5 year wait"......

Do you think, OD:

That those of us that haven't seen ONE premiership aren't aware of this?

That we are happy with that?

That 'nothing', re achievements, is an accurate rewriting of history?

Trident what is your definition of winning? What are the MFC striving for? We haven't got there and after 48 years we are so far behind the pack.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
