Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Changes for next week vs West Coast

I'm calling for a massive snow storm which grounds all airplanes and leaves us stranded here, so the match gets called off and we get 2 points for a draw. Hooray!

What about a shutdown of Virgin by Richard Branson because he feels sorry for us.

I wonder if the events of this week will lead to Davey remaining in the team as a show of faith in our indigenous players. I wouldn't be surprised, nor would I be wholly disappointed.

Really? that wouldn't disappoint you?

It would really [censored] me off.

Yeah, you're right. It probably would [censored] me off too. It would be just the thing the old Melbourne would do. Hopefully "the coach" can move us past that.

How do we know Davey is sooky, cos he can't get the ball? Pretty silly comment, still OUT: Davey, Mc Kenzie IN: Sellar Couch

Could be he will develop hamstring tightness. We will see.

I just think, and this can be considered ill-considered, that if we drop Davey it will look like we are saying "You are right, AFL. Sorry, Mr.Mifsud. Sorry our player gave you false information to run away to the press and the AFL Executive with."

It is galling.

I want us to have a meeting with Mifsud, Demetriou, Thomas, Neeld and Schwab and, assuming Davey is righteous, walk in at the start and say "Grant - we are suing you, Jason - we want you to resign, and Andrew - accept the resignation, offer us an unreserved apology, and we might accept it."

What does the MFC stand for, Andrew?

You're about to effing find out.

Sorry hardtack ontop of not being able to spell I cannot count.

Try 12th

Haha... I knew who you meant OD, but in this case I really hope he is picked. After seeing the way our forwards were crashing and bashing (each other mainly) and the amount of ball that was going to ground with no-one there to take advantage of it, I believe Bennell with his great ball handling skills, pace and agility could have something to offer; he is definitely a big step up from what Green and Davey are currently offering in the crumbing department

I have no idea who should be in or out considering there was about 17-18 players who deserve it, but what I want to see is some outside players playing around the ball.

Blease as the sub because his fitness is not up to scratch!

Bennell and Morton in, we need the foot skill!

Bate out.

What else I want to see, it's a bit of a stretch, bartram in the fwd pocket, applying pressure, we lack the small fwd who applies pressure and bartram could play this role well, the idea here is not for him to be a goal kicker but rather use his speed and fitness to chase and harass! The other thing is he can use his foot speed to get behind the zone and therefore hopefully steal a few easy goals. This frees up players like blease and Davey to play the outside midfield role, getting the hands from the contested possession that we win and hitting targets instead of players like bate, jones, moloney bombing it aimlessly

Is Ricky Petterd injured?

Yes as I reported last week.Would be right to play against Eagles though

I think it should without doubt last week that Garland is definately no key back.Needs to play on the wing or dropped.Bail is another I'd drop.

That was my line of thinking. If Jetta was fit I'd of been looking at him, but Bennell is the only other player (apart from maybe Lawrence) that can play that small crumbing, chasing and harrasing forward pocket role.

Plus he was one of Casey's best on the weekend so good form should be rewarded.

I would like to see Bennell string a couple of good games together before seeing him come in, but the layout of Subiaco may work to his strengths so I can see why he could be an inclusion.

Against the WestCoast tall timber in the forward line I think Sellar is a must. With Cox, Kennedy, Darling, Lynch and Naitanui I can't see how we can afford to play Joel Mac. Why, because I can't see a match-up for him. For mine, Sellar can take Cox or Naitanui when resting in the forward line. Frawley should go to Kennedy. Bartram to Hams/Hill. Grimes onto Gaff. I reckon Garland on Darling and then Rivers on Lynch. Even when looking at those matchups I feel like our back line is undersized, but that's just against the behemoths at West Coast. I think Tynan showed good intent, but is clearly not strong enough for this level yet. So he and Joel are out for miine.

In the middle I think we need to keep Moloney in. I'm not for making too many changes when we are so early in the season and so early into a new game plan. Rather patience should be preached for the first couple weeks until players have a better chance to get used to the new gameplan in "real" afl games.

So Moloney, Jones, Trengove, move green onto the wing (watts back into the forward line), and bate onto another wing where we can use his long kicking and marking ability up the ground. To me that gives as a good group of strong bodied inside players, surrounded by some more stronger bodied players with good marking ability and decent foot skills.

Forward line, Watts to CHF or Half Forward flanks, with Howe and Petterd. Mitch Clark at FF with Martin and Davey around him. I want us to give Davey another shot because I believe the problem with the forward line on the weekend has more to do with the way the ball was delivered into the forward line, and how predictable our play was. Davey showed good pressure, and I don't think we have anyone else who can provide that same pressure with his skill-set at present. I reckon we still maintain a very mobile half-forward line with the extra size deep with Martin and Clark. But for the forward line to work, this team needs to identify the open players through the corridor, and look for the short passes to ensure the team is in the best position to kick to a contest WHERE WE HAVE AN ADVANTAGE!

Jamar in the Ruck of course and the bench to comprise of McKenzie, Bail, Couch, Magner.

So my outs would be: Tynan, Blease, Joel Mac

Ins would be: Petterd, Couch, Sellar

I'm tempted to say we play Morton, because i'm concerned that with Moloney, Couch, Magner, Jones, McKenzie we have too many of the same type of player and not enough guys with versatility.

So that makes the following:

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
