Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Despite missing all but the first six games of the season with a foot injury, Jack Grimes was given the MFC leadership award which highlights the esteem in which he is held at the club.

I think I speak for all Demon supporters when I express the hope that it’s all plain sailing and full fitness from now on for the young Demon.

Unfairly maligned for his kicking.

Put in one of the most critical positions on the field in a team that struggled to combat the press and provide options.

Courage and integrity personified.

Will be captain one day.

Only question is... Midfield or HBF?

I'm inclined to keep him in the backline.

It's never a good time for a player to break a bone in his foot but Jack Grimes' injury was the worst piece of bad timing imaginable for the player and the club.

It's well documented that we lost a number of players through injury during that weekend and the next (as well as Jack Trengove for three weeks for executing a perfect tackle on Dangerfield who was so badly hurt that he played one of his few decent games for the year and kicked 6 goals just 6 days later) but losing Grimes for the rest of the season was a double disaster.

When the club recruited Grimes he was better known as a midfielder who also had some success when going forward. He played a fantastic game for Vic Metro (as skipper of the team) against WA in the 2007 national under 18s. At Melbourne, he had capably filled the role of a defensive flanker but a move into the middle was on the cards.

In the week before the Adelaide game when he was injured, Grimes attended a Devil's Advocates function and told a few of us at our table that he had been doing some training with the midfielders and he was pretty hopeful that he would start there against the Crows. That's exactly what happened but history will record that he lasted on the ground for no more than four minutes after getting one of the game's first possessions.

Our midfield was crying out for that extra classy player (it still is) but we can only wonder at what might have been but for that unfortunate break.

In any event, I hope the new coach recognises his potential to go into the middle, that he gets his chances there and that he remains relatively injury free in the future.

Love Grimesy, he's a class act on and off the field. Unfortunately up until now it has mostly been off the field. I look forward to him being able to string a season together. He will be an exceptionally useful player when this occurs, and one of a couple potential Captains in waiting.

In dire need of some continuity. This might sound extreme or alarmist, but I think he's still at risk of not making it. That would be a huge shame.

I'd love nothing more than to see him play 20+ games next year.

Sad but a true fact: if you can't get on the field and stay there regularly, you can never display your true worth.

Go Jack.

Massive over-reaction. People were saying the same thing about Moloney and he has hardly missed a game in the last two seasons.

His foot injury could happen to anyone and has nothing to do with any other previous injuries.

I have everything crossed for Jack Grimes. I would love to see him play 200+ games for the red & blue. Class act.

Touch wood that his foot heals and he remains injury free from here on in. Wish him well.

Me too H_T

It took Garland over a year to come back from a foot injury.

It would surprise me to see nothing of Grimes till mid 2012.

But better late than never.

Unfairly maligned for his kicking.

His kicking was pathetic and he's one of the very few Melbourne players that rarely have anything negative written about them on this site.

It's pretty obvious the kind of player that he can potentially be one day, however he's just gotta get his body right.

Maybe I should have said "unfairly maligned by those who have no idea what they're talking about".

2011 was another year ruined by injury for Jack. No sooner had he seemed fully recovered from his back / hamstring related problems and he suffered the foot stress fracture. From what rpfc is saying, he already seems destined to miss at least a slice of his next pre-season campaign. Hopefully the new fitness staff can work with Jack to get permanently on top of his injury woes. Like many others, I can see an exciting future and a potential move to the midfield, if he can get fit and stay fit.

ps. What a great achievement for Jack to win the Club Leadership award after missing most of the season.

Grimes to me is a natural footballer just like Trengove

Team player

Nothing negative about this guy

Just hope he gets an injury free season

Player he reminds me of is John Rantall

I don't follow the Toiges: what has Dylan done to impress you so?

Would like the club to ask for Jack to give back his wage from the week he spent in Qld last year while injured.

Unfortunately, with the precedent cemented in this situation we can not ask Jurrah to do the same while on Bereavement Leave.

Please don't call me racist (although I hate crackers) just because I want Jack to pay up.

It's all about the precedent.

The message it sends...

Not concerned with Dylan at Richmond. Happy with his brother Jack. I'm more "if only" with Billie Smedts, but I hope we hit the jackpot with Cook all the same.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
