I dont see any reason for GWS to lie. $cully is their marquee player and they will milk any newsworthy item they can. They need the media attention to create the following for long term survival.

I see two big question marks on $cully's long term AFL capabilities. His injury and his ability to play with the big boys. Everyone knows his athletic abilities, and in an under age comp, he had AFL standard athletic abilities playing against boys. This made him the elite junior.

I doubt whether he can transfer this against men with the same athletic abilty as he lives in a boy's body. I believe he will be out-muscled and tagged out the game. His foot skills are average too. He will become a good AFL player but not elite.

So an average, young No 1 draft pick player left the club. So did Barassi, Healy, Wells and Alves. They left for $$$$ and/or success too. I think they were bigger loses than $cully in their time. Too much energy wasted on the boy i think. Regardless of the circumstances.

Totally agree, but i think it is very strange that a chronic dodgy knee that missed half our season is now setting a seriously good time within months.

Don't you recall that he was burning up the track last preseason, then after the intraclub match didn't surface again for some time?

His knee issue means he can't handle high loads on it - he's destined to be pulled and held back for the rest of his career.

I never liked this from the beginning. His latent knee problems resurfaced uncomfortably soon after the start of the GWS rumours despite reports he was training like a gun immediately beforehand. The rumours and his dicky knee tracked a parallel course for the remainder of the season. Despite the occasional bandage and icepack he never moved or looked like he carried an injury in his few games with us last season. Then he signs the biggest ever AFL contract despite having a season ruined by injury with associated poor form and diminished skills. All too much to believe unless I like to feel gullible.

Doesn't explain why he's been in rehab with GWS...

Yes i understand the load factor but it does not diminish that 9 m 37 is a very good time on a knee that kept him out for half a season. It just adds to the murky water...

Rehab could mean anything and 2 bex every night and a Balinese massage once a week would qualify for rehab therapy. The devil is in the detail.

Scully will be chasing jumpers for the next three years .

Hope his father is healthy enough to witness it .

Are you suggesting that the MFC didn't have his knee checked out by their own medicos... or that they simply took Scully on his word? I am more than happy to accept that he does have a dodgy knee. And to all those commenting that they wouldn't believe this time as Scully is a proven liar... similarly, I doubt the time would have been passed on to the journo by Scully himself based on what he noted on his wrist watch.

Oh i am sure the MFC medicos know Tom'$ knee better than anyone. That is not the point. If he signed a GW$ contract on his return from China which i think he did, i wonder whether there was also an insurance clause written in governing how much we could play him? $6 mill is a biggy particularly when the AFL are the underwriters.

How dodgy was/is that knee...?

A balinese massage? Does that mean a massage plus? Lol, surely not for mr holylier than now. Maybe for $ully snr. He wouldnt need to work hard or move a muscle

So now you think MFC were compliant in not playing Scully in 2011, so as not to void his GWS contract due to an insurance clause based on how many games he played??

If that's what you're getting at, it's mental.

So is getting a $6 mill contract with a "dodgy" knee

few thoughts...

- 'he went easy on his knee in 2011' this is an idiotic statement. If his knee requires caution what happens in R1 2012 or is he going to 'go easy on it' for his whole career?

-if there is in fact nothing wrong with his knee then WTF is Doc Larkins smoking writing that piece basically saying the kid is doomed to an injury-plagued career?

-does anyone care about the sport of football anymore or do we only care about how fast a bloke can run? I would like to see some sort of chart comparing the best 3km time-trial efforts in the comp with who the actual most effective players are, I suspect there would be little correlation.

-regardless of what happens now, we will have two mid-first round draft picks and the salary cap space to allow us to snag Mitch Clark and hang on to Trengove, Watts etc. There is still every chance that long-term we will end up being the winners of this GWS episode and that's just a fact

-be thankful he has gone to this pathetic mob who will cellar-dwell for years, possibly his whole career. What would really have hurt would have been if he had gone to the Bombers/Tigers or something, become a star in a side that ultimately cost us a premiership

way too much hand-wringing over this issue, move on people

thats the question we can all ask GWS in time. Do you really think Tom gave the MFC 100% last year? He certainly put in for that time trial.

Well, it's on the record TS does need rehab for his dicky knee.

The way I see it, Scully is GWS's marquee signing and he's basically being doing rehab since he came to Sydney. The Giants need publicity and when he runs a good time in their 3km time trial, that's the thing they need to highlight in their media. The time itself speaks to his aerobic capacity which is well known and he could possibly do a much better time if he was in full training.

I can't believe we're still going on about $cully. The Kid was deceitful, selfish and greedy with no concept of doing the right thing by his club and his mates.

He goes to GWS with the knee of a 80 year old, we get the same compo package Geelong got for Ablett (2 time premiership hero, brownlow medallist, MVP etc) and most importantly enough room in our salary cap to lure a potential star key position player in Mitch Clark to the club!

How was Scullys decision to take the money and run not a big win for the MFC?

I have no doubt that Scully's a supreme athlete. I also think it likely that he will be, at the very minimum, a very, very good AFL player.

It's his character that always concerned me. From a distance, he seems to be weirdly unemotional for a kid of his age.

And I think it's too convenient to say he's 'professional', because quite frankly I don't think his conduct and approach over the past two years was particularly professional. Perhaps you can lay that at the feet of his agent/advisers, but I would love to see how a psychiatrist would profile his personality type.

Jack Trengove on the other hand - he's got emotional intelligence in spades. And ability. And love of club. And about everything else we could possibly have hoped for ...

decision - fine. money - fine.

lying to jim stynes, the club and the supporters - not fine.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
