Dees find their crumbing forward - I'm rapt!

Featured Replies

A very close source in the realm of the football department has just informed me that the reason Davey has stayed away from a lot of the endurance work and bulked up is that next season the Flash will be back deep in the forward line. The conditioners are being very careful not to flatten him with long distant running instead trying to condition him for plenty of short sharp efforts and have the body to break tackles in congestion. I for one am rapt to hear this and at worst he will give 35 goal plus as a crumbing forward. That has to be a good thing.

If this is correct, as I suspect it is, then I think it is an inspired, overdue and exciting decision.

I don't see Davey exclusively in the forward line, not deep anyway.

But if his role would be to start forward, get to the feet of Clark and Watts, and to occasionally deliver into the fwd 50 - then I am all for that.

But we all know that the HBF is the place to regain form...

I Agree, I think his kick into the 50 is far to good for him to play too deep. Good to see him back were his started though. Good news all round.

Would be fantastic to see a return of the "classic flash", hopefully he can get his short burst back and terrorize defenders again!

Goals would be better.

about friggin time

he has had it far too easy for far too long playing that role across half back

welcome back flash, time to show us once again why we named you "flash"

The last time Davey played in the fwd pocket was Rd 22 v Richmond where he carried on like a pork chop, got about 2 possessions and got suspended. They moved him in defense for immediate results where he contributed to an 8 goal 3rd qtr.

Davey should be playing half back next year to utilize his kicking skills.

Disagree. Firstly, we plainly need a crumbing forward with Jurrah, Clark and Watts. Davey has a lazy and unaccountable defensive attitude and gets too many kicked on/through him. We have other blokes who can perform off half back, including Grimes and Tappy, maybe even Morton, Green. Davey has also shown he needs, shall we say, protection.

"Mega Watts lighting up the track

"& this about Davey................

"Misson admits the Demons have been led on a steep learning curve.

"They needed some real structure with their training, weights and conditioning," he says.

"We needed to improve their strength and fitness and we've put some systems in place to get them up to speed on what an elite AFL program is. To be honest, they've embraced it and in the seven weeks I've been here they've really taken to it.

"We can see a lot of upside and the improvement in just seven weeks has been more than I expected. We've got a long way to go, but they're really taking the bit between the teeth and I think they're enjoying the hard work."

They've EMBRACED.........upside& the improvment in 7wks

All very positive and leaves me salivating about our future

They say big men take time to develop. I think the same is true for small forwards .

Davey will go well in attack .

His decision making from half back was poor because he is TOO attacking .

Those he say he is better at half back must have missed all the turnovers that lead to goals .

I'm glad Misson has taylored his program .

10 tackles and four goals(for us) a game would be nice from Flash .

It makes sense, if they can reclaim his incredible acceleration and first-step speed. Partcularly now that he has a mature body, even if not especially bulky.

Of course, it won't be a bad thing to have someone with his level of laser-targeted kicking hanging around the forward line either.

He's got it all except the ability to cop a hard tag and stand under a slow ball.

He wont get as hard a tag as there are now more good players needing coverage.

I dont unfortunately, see him taking a whack in a crucial hard fought battle and bobbing up Milne-like.

And he hasn't got the ,,, em he needs a bit more room to turn his opponent around. I can't see him breaking many tackles, so around the 50 would give him space to help the mids the forwards and to use his speed and agility.

I'd be surprised to see him stay deep.

Bit of back to the future here.

I umpired in many of his u14 & u16's games in Darwin and he mostly played in the forward pocket where no one could stop him. He had no speed whatsoever then but his baulking and weaving was something else to watch.

And he was skinny as a rake; all skin and bones.

Four goals a game would be nice?

If he played 22 games he would be win the coleman medal! It would be a bit more than nice.

Disagree. Since when has the HBF flank been used to regain form? His best footy has been played up forward.Simple really.

Also about time he paid back some of that enormous money demanded a year back. That SQUIB effort against St Kinda will not be easily forgotten.

Yep, One example should do it.

In his first season or two he terrorized defenders with his run down closing speed and acceleration, much the same as by the way did Jurrah in his early days. If both could regain that ability / desire / fire as well as being evasive burst attackers, then watch out.

Presumably, from training reports, they both are getting some sort of "special treatment" and I hope you are right about the detail and the plan, or as we call it now on Neeld era, "role"!

And the addition of Clark to the forward line will add some strength and mongrel which can only help these two to feel less easily intimidated.
