You were right too Prof..thanks for the correction..despite my thoughts that he had played at some stage in the back pocket, I couldn't find that happening at all in the old Footy Records I researched last night..wing, centre and forward pocket/rover at various times..depending on the structure of the side at the time. Stephen Tingay was numbr 52 i think when he started...Viney was quite high too. Tingay may have even been 57. Anyone know when he got the #2?

Agree also... not AFL, but I'm sure the #46 will mean a lot to people who love sport. The owner of that number is in a sport where the world champion is supposed to wear the #1 for the next season, yet this person refuses to part with the #46... I'm certain many of you know who I'm talking about, because his name is synonymous with that number.

As far as I'm concerned, a player should come to the club, get a number that is available, and own that number for their career. Be it 1 or 50, that's their number. None of this changing number business, none of this 'let's give him 31 simply because he's good and we had a player who was good who also wore 31, logical connection there!' rubbish.

I'd have liked Nicholson to hold onto 49, make a career out of it, and then own the story of 49.

No what I was trying to say was that I don't see the link between a number and it's importance. As in, why is a number from 1-30 'better' than a number that is greater than 30, for example?

You know I'm a LOST fan too - numbers are not everything.
