Unco players are good for the game (like bad umpiring decisions)

Trent Knobel in his early days at St Kilda was probably the most awkward I've seen a player at AFL level.

Alistair Nicholson deserves a mention for the way he'd escort the ball over the boundary trying not to get pinged for deliberate, it was a lot of things but coordinated certainly wasn't one of them.

I can think of no more unco player I have seen than Lewis Roberts-Thompson. Manages to do some amazing things on occasion, but manages to amaze with his unco-ness even more often. I go to Swans games in Sydney with a mate, and usually spend half the time laughing at the balls ups from LRT.

Is he the guy that had a kick after the siren that could have won the game for Syd against us but he missed? I think it was at Docklands (what ever that place is called now)..

I'm not sure C_F, but it wouldn't surprise me, especially if the kick was a dead-set gimme. That said, he usually plays down back, so probably not.

Me and a mate of mine were watching the 2011 Grand Final, and neither of us were really interested in the teams playing. But thankyou to Zac Dawson for bringing great laughs in a boring game with his clumsy antics

Zac Dawson in the 2011 GF? I thought he played for StKilda, not Collingwood or Geelong?

on the planet UNCO there is a monument for Ben Holland. The monument itself is falling over because it depicts Ben Holland attempting to stand upright and it was assembled by some incredibly UNCO labourers. The planet itself struggles to orbit its star without going off course.

Does this qualify for unco? I remember a game when Nicho came on from the bench with his tracksuit top still on. He probably didn't even get as far as the boundary line before he realised, but it was funny to watch.

Something Redleg said about someone being unco reminded me of fabulously unco players from past.. The skill level today is so good that the unco player is an endangered species. I recall a Swans player who I think was called Bolton on the wing who screwed up everything he did, so much so that if a Melbourne player got the ball we would yell ”kick it to Bolton”.

And there was a ruckman for Collingwood, Manson I think, he could hardly walk. What about that floppy wristed run that Richo had?

A few years ago I met some of the new recruits at MFC and one was blinky. I don’t know what else to call it. Each time he blinked it was just was longer than it should have been. Can’t remember his name but I thought to myself “Thank goodness he isn’t competing in some form of marshal art”.

We’ve often had guys that when they got the ball all the Demon supporters would say “@^ not him”; the guy that couldn’t kick the winning goal from 10 meters out but was a great mark or the guy that lost the ball each time they tried to bounce it.

And some were very successful players too despite their awkwardness. Eg T Viney’s kicking style wasn’t exactly poetry but there were many games I thought he was our most important player..

Who was your favorite unco? Who was the worst? Grgic – not that he was unco but more what he tried to do was wrong?

Not that it had anything to do with his playing - but I just love watching Neita walk! Doesn't he have the funniest walk? I remember at Carlton once when Mick Martyn was on his last legs, Neita kept walking around and around virtually in circles when the ball wasn't in the forward line. I couldn't work out what he was doing, but couldn't take my eyes off his walk. Finally the penny dropped - he was tiring Martyn out! It worked too.

But I really loved watching Neita walk!

This is true. He walks around like Jar Jar Binks...

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
