With the conclusion of Trade Week can someone please find out what draft picks the club now holds and how many players we still need to move on to use those draft picks?

Additionally, what do you think will happen now with guys like Maric and Dunn?

Posted

Picks 36, 52 and 54.

With Scully and Warnock out, and Clark in, that leaves 2 players that need to go. Maric, Wonna and MacDonald remain uncontracted. I think the first two of these names will be delisted from the primary list.

Bazza took Tom McDonald at 53 last year in a similarly compromised draft - I'll take 2 more as good as him at 52 and 54 thanks!

Agree that Maric seems likely to be delisted. (to be picked up by Nth in the draft) I suspect that we might offload a rookie or two, and Wonna might be re-listed as a rookie... would be a rough call to delist MacDonald, but it's possible I guess.

Sorry to disagree with you IWAP but the AFL website says our picks are 36, 54, 72 and 90

I imagine Nicholson. Evans, Lawrence retained - Newton, Campbell, McNamara and Johnston gone.

Dunn is at the Dees for 2012. He has a contarct and cannot be moved now.

We got pick 52 for Warnock, but you are right we do have picks 72 and 90. I just don't think we'll use them (unless we want to deslist more players)

Collingwood? may be the only 1 who dont?

Yeah, think you're right there - their first pick at 50?

It is my thought that we will keep Dunn, Maric but delist Joel McDonald.

Surely Maric is delisted, then we delist Wona with the thought of picking him up again as a rookie. It'd be cruel to delist Joel Mac. Is supurb back up and just a class act and genuine good bloke to have around the club.

and it wouldnt be cruel to delist wona and pick him up on cheap money after the club has supported his struggle with his loss this year and convinced him to return to the club?

This might come down to a long hard talk between Wonna and Mark Neeld to see where he is at, is it fair to keep Wonna at the expense of his teammates if he may never realistically play again?

This is the big question will he play AFL again?

I have my doubts,

Jetta may have moved in front of him for a spot.

We also know Jetta definately wants to be here.

No. Put yourself in Aussie's shoes. If I were him, I would feel gratitude to the club that supported me through tough times. I would recognise that I owe them, not the other way around.

Agreed. Aussie has had a tough year, and I feel for him. But the reality of the situation, is if he is retained on the primary list, someone else will have to be delisted (eg. Joel Macdonald). I don’t think its fair to anyone, including Aussie, if he is retained purely because of compassionate circumstances. I think a delist, and a rookie contract (potentially on the same money) will be in everyone’s interest.

I highly doubt anyone else will draft him without his blessing.

The AFL is a cruel world.

We have shown a lot of sympathy to Aussie over his 4 years at the club.

His total is 26 games and IMO probably only 6 -7 games that I could say he was good and justified his spot in the team.

leaving aside his problems this season he has been constantly injured ( even ended this season injured ) or over weight.

I think the end is nigh for Aussie, if he stays on the list or is Rookied he will want to have a very big 2012.

Incredibly disappointed we didn't trade Bate for this exact reason. Not only would have opened up a spot on the list but also would have given him a fresh opportunity to play AFL football elsewhere, rather than spend another year down at Casey...

Maric seems like a no-brainer as wants out & is not under contract but who will be the last player we move on? Can't see it being 'The Celebrator' with our lack of small forwards (not to mention Maric also likely on the way out), and would hope it isn't MacDonald who was one of the few players of the Bailey era with a hard-edge & can provide the defensive depth needed now that Warnock has left.

Posted

I would be annoyed if we refused to move Bate on for pick 39, then moved Wonna on so we can draft with pick 54.

What's the status of Spencer's contract? Surely he's OOC? He must be on the chopping block too, right? I mean, we've got Jamar, Martin and Gawn, with Clark as well. Not entirely sure if Spencer is worth too much to us anymore. And I see far more value on Wonna than in Spencer.

Dunn's contracted I'm guessing, otherwise he should go.

Big Jake Spencer would have to be close to being delisted.....

Spencer

Maric

Aussie to be re-rookied, if it can be done? without losing him to others...

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
