I was wondering about his contract status.

According to this article he is out of contract and still waiting for an offer.

I don't really take any joy in this, as Joel has busted his gut for the club since coming here, but I think his time as an AFL footballer is up.

We need to give opportunities to the kids that play in the same spot as him.

And they are earning them too.

I doubt another club would really want him.

Maybe GWS, but I don't think so.

I don't wanna lose this guy. Sure he's no star, but he's hard as nails and an experienced head down back. Unless we absolutely have to axe him for list management purposes, then he stays for mine. Would get rid of several others before him.

He's not that old anyway is he? 26-27?

Posted

GWS can't take him without trading, Tom $cully is their one and only from the MFC

If they want him and we dont, we would be douches to stand in his way, even if it was for pick 1001 we would let him go, he would serve them well too.

I implore the sentiment of the OP, i like Joel and think he has something to offer, even if just on reduced wages if nothing else, he can play some football, and who knows under Neeld, alot can change.

Some on here will say he has to go ect, having less than the best in terms of players is a sign of weakness yadda yadda, but i think you could get alot worse than Joel Mac in your 44 sqaud thats for sure

Very similar to Warnock, DOMINATES VFL football but we all know it is a step down, but i saw him play live this year at that level and 3 time so on telly and he is really good,

At AFL level he can mark and is hard at the contest, but doestkick it all that well, and plays the position on the ground in which we have the most depth

I for one would be devastated to see him go. He is one of those players who isn't flashy, but works so hard, is tough as nails and we need some of that. To add to that he is a ripper of a bloke. I was a fan before meeting him, and a massive fan afterwards. If it is deemed he has to go, I will just have to deal with it, but I won't be thrilled.

If we lose Warnock and Joel we end up with little to no depth in the back 6. I have no issues with Joel getting another 2 years with us. He is not in our best 22 but does a nice job of doing his role when he does get in our best 22. Never one to disappoint when he gets a game.

Rivers, Grimes and Garlo don't have a great history of staying fit.

A senior player with a great attitude, experience and real guts. Why would we let him go unless there was someone of real quality I exchange? I would see quite a few others go before him.

Posted

Perhaps not in our absolute best 22, but definitely has a role to play. A very good player to have on our list, particularly given that injuries occur throughout the whole year - it's not that often that any teams have their best 22 on the field at any given time.

Good attitude and hard at it. Sign him up.

Not fussed over JoelMac.

Honest but a fringe player at best. I see him warming the bench for others coming through.

Bottom level 1 or 2 year contract if at all. Definitely not a must keep IMO

Incorrect.

If we delist him, then they can take him in the ND, PSD or rookie draft.

That about covers it for me too. Happy for him to stay, but understand if he goes.

Joel Mac is needed. He provides a solid body, good 1 on 1 and has a crack.

He is a footballer first, not an athlete first, and if you have been listening to anyone in the media with any sort of credibility, they are talking about footballers value is becoming again higher then athletes values. It has taken a swing in the past year and although he is not in our top 10, he is definitely in our top 25.

You are only as strong as your 30th player.

At worst he's handy depth, but personally I like him. He's a hard seasoned body, something we desperately lack and you can always count on a 100% effort. That said he has a few brain fades every now and again.

I'd like to see him stay at the club................not the best player in the team, but is an honest player, and we have a serious shortage of them at the minute.

if gws wants him why not package him up with some picks for O'Meara?

Are you taking the p!ss again?

I never can tell, apparently...

I would be surprised if Neeld wants to keep him.

Good, honest bloke but new coaches rarely keep 27/28 year old fringe players...

Really?

Garland had a hot spot / stress fracture. Can't remember him having any other injuries.

He's actually quite resilient.

But we also have Tom McDonald and Troy Davis.

Not to mention Fitzpatrick, Lucas Cook and Stef Martin being able to play back there.

Could not disagree more. The last sentence is a clanger too.

I dont think we can rely on these 2 to fill back six spots personally, many people suggest Cook doing it, but i dont see it.

And yeah Garlo has been ok missed 4 games mid season though yeah? And you cant deny Rivers and Grimes history with injury

I like Mcdonald ALOT, and apparently Davis is his equal really so there is some depth

given matty warnock wants out, unless Joel mac has trade value to obtain another player of value in return, I can't see him being delisted.

if Joel Mac is retained I would prefer to see Davis and McDonald get games in AFL. would hope they prosper under Neeld but if Davis isn't quite ready and there is an injury elsewher in backline to either Chip, Rivers Grimes or Garalnd, Joel Mac is handy. maybe a one year contract for transition development.

Posted

JoelMac is a midsized defender. He and Warnock play seperate roles. Both Davis and McDonald (Tom) play more KPF. JoelMac is competing with the Grimes, Strauss type players. He is not a replacement for Rivers, Chippa or Garland.

EIther Neeld sees a role for him or JoelMac is delisted.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

I think Kolt looks like he’s im

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
