Considering Garry Lyon confirmed tonight that we made a offer to Clarkson a few weeks ago, then i can only assume that there is NO chance of any deal between MM and the Dees.

The clubs have spoken on the quiet to major journos and said.. look. When the GF is over we'll give you the word and you can let fly with your typewriters. Dont tow the line and youll get very little for some time.

Not sure about this part BB. Although I believe that if MM is coming it would all have been already negotiated, I wouldn't think the clubs would trust ANYONE outside the negotiating heavyweights. No secretaries, no note takers, minute writers, brother's wife's girlfiend's father's horse's strapper. NOBODY. Otherwise, we'd know about it.

RL didn't even let his management know about his intentions, even after StK were out of the season.

Yes and Mark Harvey was happily humming the "I have a secure job with good pay" song only yesterday morning over his cornflakes...

It's an Adele song...

It isn't a real song. If you googled that song, you have issues. If you bought that song on iTunes, I stand corrected...

Don't be so sure.

I posted this in the Burns/Craig topic so pardon the repeat.

GL was very excited to break the news about RL to Freo.

Was also very calm with the inevitable Melbourne coaching & RL questions arose.

I particularly liked the bit about "We never approached or offered a contract to RL. Blah, blah respect whilst team in finals. We 'enquired' with his management that if he was not going to coach STK we would like to chat." To casual by half.

The media do not know a thing that is happening down at Melb because we have the new best in business as our head ATM. Tight ship at Melbourne since GL took over.

Filtered secrets, betting plunges, proposed directions.... GL is using the media circus against itself and it is working a treat.

No news is good news. Nothing to see hear.

This goes one of two ways. We had our man a long time ago and both parties have been cloak and dagger and pointing elsewhere for distraction since.

.... Or GL and the board and Cam Schwab believe thier own spin and we are pathetic amateurs like we have been for 50 years.

I will bet my ... on the former. Time will tell. Early Oct - just in time for me Birfday.

GL didnt confirm it Barrett asked him (to confirm that he offerred a 6 year deal to clarkson) and he just continued saying what he was talking about at the time and never confirmed it

Barrett said "yes" but GL kept talking and ignored it.

This is terrible rumour-mongering, but about an hour ago on SEN I heard a caller talking to KB, who apparently called the Ross Lyon to Freo move a few weeks ago (and was ridiculed by KB at the time for it), claim that Paul Roos would be coaching in 2012.

I don't believe it, but you'd have to think there's a chance this bloke could know something we don't.

There's every chance it's the smell of his belly-button lint, but it could also be genuine insider info.

My problem with 'insiders' is that there is little chance for a person to be across enough 'platforms' to be an insider.

Am I an insider because I know the details of Cam Bruce's last contract with Melbourne?

Hardly.

This bloke might have the ear of a Freo board member, or the local Officeworks in Seaford where Lyon faxed through his signature...

It doesn't mean he is an insider across any other topic, player, coach, etc.

That is very true, but it could be conceivable that someone is in the know regarding lyon and roos as they remain close friends. Most likely full of it though.

Sorry if link has been posted before.

http://www.michaelma...07/17-my-future

Even has his own website. Fancy.

That was written in July....Many sleeps ago, as Micky's tenure behind the wheel gets closer to it's end he may well change his mind.

Maybe he already has??

As Garry Lyon said last night "We are still very much on Track"

All this while the list of candidates gets shorter....

Strangely enough I ws only looking at that website last night. ( Micks) Hes not a shy lad is he, no ego what so ever..lol. Its entirely reasonable for him to suppose all of that given the time( moment) he wrote it., But things change, circumstances change etc.. He , like anyone neednt be kept to somethiing youve said ages ago if things change.

What would anyone really expect..? paragraphs outlining his intentions to all and sundry ? Malthouse is a political beast. He knows how to work the media etc. He's savvy. The Net is media. . That future bit was written some time ago also.

I was given sage words by my DaD. many have priobably heardl similar. Judge not by what someone says, but by what they do. MM hasnt ever been coy about doing what suits MM.

edit..beat me to it WWL..lol

As I have stated from day one - I am an "ink on paper" man. Until something is signed sealed and delivered, everything talked about, written about, commented on by all parties is fluff and nonsense - I cant differentiate fact from fiction and wont even try...

Having said that

"We're not missing out on anyone. The only thing that's important is for the Melbourne footy club people to realise that we are absolutely on track."

What the hell does that mean, Garry ? Clarkson ? R Lyon ? One re-signed and one went elsewhere. If we are not missing out on anyone and are on track you would assume that we are getting the person we want ?

(I refer back to my first paragraph - I am the same person who accepted TS when he said " I want to finish my career as a one club player and anticipate that will be case" - I WANT TO SMELL INK ON PAPER)

I think he means Clarkson was never really available, and we never had a chance with Ross Lyon because of what some would call underhanded tactics, but even then he would not speak to us when we made enquiries, so you'd presume he was not interested.

I don't agree that we should have been beating down Ross Lyon's door and circumventing his management.

There's a train of thought that he even approached Freo himself - does that sound like a man who was interested in our job?

You can't force someone to coach your club.

I'd say GL is certain we have a list of very impressive candidates and setups in mind, meaning a man who has proven to have little integrity is actually of little interest to us.

Scott Burns and Neil Craig sounds like a bloody good setup to me, if it has any legs.

I have seen nothing in the last 48 hours that suggests to me it is anyone but MM.

'nothing' being the operative word !! lol

Still, nothing is kind of good just at the moment B)

Maybe all you say is correct but the fact is that there was one coach out of contract and one coach who has now moved clubs. If I was one to read into words ( which I dont because no one is above spinning the truth including our Garry) you would question Garry's choice of words - "We have not missed out on any one" - yeah we have - two possibilities that we were reportedly linked with. "we are right on track" - if we are right on track then Clarkson and Lyon were never our real targets.

Just odd turns of phrase.

It indicates to me that we didn't think Clarkson was a realistic possibility and that Ross Lyon wasn't a high priority on our list of targets, or even a priority at all.

Not surprising - I don't see why we'd want a coach that won't even give us the time of day.

Your last 15 words says it all "if we are right on track then Clarkson and Lyon were never our real targets".

IMO it has always been MM

If it was some else why have they not been appointment and announced?

Because he cannot be seen to accept till October 3rd.

There's also the chance that we already have our man signed, yet we're waiting until his finals campaign is completed out of courtesy.

I'm not sure if GL said when we tried to get an opportunity to talk to RL.

It's possible RL has dealt with Freo after we already decided on our coach, but before he was prepared to speak to us.

If we've signed Burns, Neeld or Malthouse, we could be showing them the courtesy of avoiding unnecessary media attention while they complete their finals campaign.

I know it's unlikely, but it's a possibility.

Remember Essendon went through a massive farce last year, when Hird was clearly the man a long time before being announced, yet the bombers still interviewed a lot of hopefuls.

I still can't figure out why.

If MM is our man and possibly always was our man then everything else is subservient if disassociated to it.

If MM is our man then neither us ( MFC) or the Filth want ANY attention to it just yet. Mick DOES after all still have a day job

If MM is our man then we wont know til the dust has settled on the G sans GF.

If MM was/is our man then everythiing not already irrelevant has simply been a production of smoke and mirrors or the opportune riding of other's initiated doings.

If MM is out man then a cover story whilst all else transpires is to look like your soliciting others. Funny...thats exactly whats transpired.

of course if MM isnt our man ..then who the ...is ?? lol

because if its not MM he/they could probably be announced shortly. yet theres nothing iminent n on the radar , according to GL & Co.

Well thats my black hole theory.B)

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
