The Mitch Clark Thread

Heart Beats True

Recommended Posts

This is the thing - we are not getting anything done! Missed out on the Mini Draft and now wasting time on a bloke that wants to live in WA and isn't that good. It's 4.20 pm on Thursday and so far we've got nothing! We've only got tomorrow and Monday. Time is ticking and we are wasting it.

You speak as though there is a lot out there to get.

I have no interest in just getting someone for the sake of it.

Players have to be better than our current list and have to be available at a fair price.

If they do not fit those qualifications then you do not trade.

If Clark says no to us and insists he wants to go home or will stay at Lions I would offer our pick 12 to Freo for 16 and 20. I don't think dropping 4 spots would kill us and then we have another pick 4 spots later. I am sure Freo would do it in a heartbeat to get Clark.

I asked the same, all depends on where Prendagast see players were interested in landing. that extra pick at 20 is still value, but the difference between 12 and 16 could mean the real talent disappearing

If he goes in the draft GWS will surely pick him up, so obviously that will be avoided.

If he truly wants to return home we should stay away. Sure-ask if they are his true intentions or just a ruse, but I don't want to draft him if his heart and mind are in WA and then he does a $ully on us and leaves after 2 years.

What do they say? Once burned, twice ahh you can't burn me twice!

A reported 800k a season for 4 years?

I applaud the department making a statement, as it serves as a two fold solution to : A - Everyone knowing we need a BIG FORWARD and B - After getting raped by GWS for Scully....

BUT, 800k a season for 4 years? For Mitch Clark? I associate this sort of money with a GREAT player....not a player that I would classify as a GOOD player....He has a lot of upside as he is still young...but dear lord...this is silly money i feel...

If we get him fantastic, but definitely at a high price that will also include our top picks thats for sure..

800K a season? LOL

Tell him his dreaming!

edit- ok I just read the article- it's "up to" 800 a season, so not definitive. Also surely pick 12 would get it done- don't offer a compo pick as well as Brisbane either take it or let him go for free a la Ball at St Kilda..

I'm happy we are chasing a big forward aggressively. How is this going to affect Martin I wonder...

We've got plenty of salary cap room. Why not offer Brisbane pick 12 plus a large contract to Clark?

If it doesn't go through, we've still got pick 12 and salary cap space. If it goes through, then we pick up a quality player for a fair price.

Sorry mate - was Oucher driving it. Apologies.

Probably was me. But I was saying that we should not discount it as part of the trade, I wasn't trying to get rid of him

800 K per season sound like BS. However, if this is the case then we are a walking contradiction. Didn't want to pay overs for what seemed to be an elite prospect in Crouch but quite happy to pay massive overs for Clark!!!!

I will be happy to take Clark if he wants to play with us.

I rate him, and think he could become a big factor in our improvement.

Also will be great for us to snare a player of this type to our club.

Go get him Dee's.

I have said it before but maybe i should elaborate, is it only me getting the feeling of what Geelong did when they went after Brad Ottens? Look where that got them...

Yes, i see what your saying, are you talking more about filling the last main gap we have with a forward, Geelong did this in the rucking department? rather than simply recruiting a good ruck.

Trade radio talking about this now, saying mitch is thinking about our offer currently, weather this is fluff or not who knows

edit Clarks manager is on saying this

Well one is proven- the other is a kid who probably still has pimples.

I'm all for Clark but I am scared. How is this going to impact on our ruck division as it is now, and how is this going to affect the Martin/Jamar combo thing we have going? Is this going to push Gawn to look for new opportunities?

Someone start a thread on this. We need answers!

If any-one should be worried , it'd be Jamar IMO .

No way will we get rid of Gawn .

I think the quote was "up to $800k a year". Surely this would be front loading, with say $2m over 4 years.

No way is he a $800k a year player. And as Ralph twittered: "RalphyHeraldSun Just a thought on Mitch Clark - Dees offering millions over 4 years but he kicked only 27 goals this year as sole forward. No superstar"

Ed: latest Ralph twitter: "RalphyHeraldSun Demons are saying $800K a year for Mitch Clark funny money. Closer to $500K is more accurate. Didn't offer Scully that. Making massive play"

Sounds more like it.

This makes more sense - $500k per year front loaded with upto $800k first year

I agree - no way 4 x $800k

In the immediate future this pushes Martin out, right?

I'm confused, how does this work.. he is a ruckman who can play forward but apparently better in the ruck. Do we make Jamar the stay at home forward and let Clark take over rudck duties or do we just plonk Clark in the square and use him as the stay at home forward.

Can we play Jamar Martin and Clark in the same team?

Thread needed on how this impacts our current ruck stocks please.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
