Yeah that's what bothers me about Jaeger O'Meara. he can't play till 2013 and he's short for a mid. I don't want a 10 year plan and I think we have overdone the drafting at the expense of trading (be it players or picks). We just seem to be getting younger and younger.

Use the draft pick to trade for a seasoned player, anyone who is older than 23 and can get the ball and use it.

The most important thing is to fix what we do have and fix the way the guys play together first. Get that right and we can finish in the 8 regardless of who we pick up. The problem this year wasn't the youth coming through - Tapscott, Blease, Strauss, Nicholson, Howe all made a good mark - but the step backwards the leaders made and the mid range players. The likes of Bartram, Dunn, Petterd, Macdonald, Maric were meant to be holding down a spot in the 22 but clearly weren't. Moloney, Jamar, Rivers, Jones all performed well, Sylvia was poor without being horrible but obviously Green and Davey were disgusting.

It's a bit hard for the 'Fillers' to hold spots when the Obvious player development Is well under way. The young players who are hitting some form, are given spots when they show improvement, at the expense of the 'shorter term options'.

So those Mid range players weren't too bad.

But as you've said, the Leaders of our club were taught Under a 'Soft' football model.

We don't have many blood & guts footy players.

This is the short-sighted impatient attitude that annoys me.

You don't want O'Meara because he'll take longer, but what is the alternative?

You'll never be able to trade those picks for a current-day Andrew Swallow or a Brendon Goddard.

They will cost more.

The most you may get would be a Dal Santo or a Daniel Wells.

B grade players, not A (or A grade, not A+ grade, if you like).

But O'Meara in all likelihood could be A grade talent.

What would prefer?

B grade now, or A grade in a couple of years?

I would like us to get some old heads in, I would even trade in our next captain.

If Scully leaves we will have some currency, if he stays scratch one of the names off the list. Probably Goddard as he would be unattainable without the comp picks.

Cornes would be the most attainable - a second round pick would get it done IMO. He may even be delisted, but I am not up with the latest news from SA.

Thompson, I am hoping, would look favourably on us if he is looking for a new challenge. But I don't know if possible. He would require Pick 12 most likely, and maybe a set of steak knives...

Goddard would be a tough get. Maybe both priority picks would have to be given, maybe Spencer would have some worth to them.

And if we get these three, we can rookie Fevola - a compromise to the 'Get Fev' camp.

So I would get rid off our first four picks.

But I'm reckless. A risk taker.

And fed up.

Interesting tall with a lot going for him. He's got the height you want in a genuine kpp, and while he's not Jon Patton, he's already looking like developing a strong body. Hands good above his head, particularly one-out, is perfectly capable of ripping apart a weaker opponent once he gets on top. While I'm not sure about his raw pace, for such a big bloke he is very balanced and turns quickly - he lays a lot of tackles, and a kpf who can do that is like gold these days in the age of forward presses - too often the talls just lumber around helplessly and don't contribute much. Works hard, lots of 1%ers. He's also a surprisingly good crumber, from his own marking or from other people's. Very good bloke to have isolated one-out in the goalsquare while the rest of the defense stresses about keeping an eye on Watts. For all his size (and he'll be a monster when he fills out) in my book he's a smarts and finesse player rather than relentless runner who blows his opponents up or a pure strength/speed lead-mark-shoot type, and as such I think he and Watts will complement each other well.

The other string to his bow is his ability to play as a 'gorilla' defender. He was just exceptional there against VC in the pre-champs trial match, and I reckon this aspect of his game is really underestimated. With a bit of experience he could be a genuine dual-position kpp swingman, and there aren't all that many of them going around.

He will be lucky to get drafted even as a Rookie.

If so, is that the same guy that we had on our list for a couple of years, and he decided that he was home sick so Adelaide picked him up? Why would he decide that he is willing to move back to Victoria to join the Club that he had an opportunity of being a one-club player with?

At pick 12 we would be lucky.

Sam Docherty also likely to be at around the pick 12 mark.

Yeah noticed he'd played down back a fair bit too. A player like this I reckon would fit in really well in forward line, and in turn could help us get our own Buddy-Roughhead combo. The fact that he can play down back only adds to his value as well. I haven't seen him play myself, but I have been pretty taken on what I've read about him. Good-size, pack busting abilities, and been living in Patton's shadow.

But do we thing GWS would over look him?

If we we're after Butcher though and successful I doubt we'd go for him though. Personally I'd much rather seek to draft a mature mid and go after this kid.
