Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I think they should start fresh with a new coach, and a new leadership group and plan to have them both for 5 years.

Jack Grimes is my vote.

if Grimes played more often then I would pick him but he's just not on the field enough. Green should keep it for one more year then Trengove or Grimes.

I would like to see Trengove challenge for captaincy in about 3-4 years time, but at this point in time I still believe Brad Green shouldn't be stripped of his role as captain as he has only had 1 year of it, and I think he will grow into the role like James McDonald did.

Yeah, it's the safer option to keep Brad as Captain.

People will think we are being mean if we moved him out of the captaincy.

And perception is so important at this level.

I just can't seem to care.

He shouldn't be captain in 2012 and he won't.

We want an aggressive Warrior

Sylvia is the man to lead us into Battle.

I think it would take his game to another level.

I know one shouldn't make this decision based on what the press thinks, but I'm sure that if Greeny is sacked as coach the press will go to town on us, based on radio discussions I've heard esp tonight on 3AW with Healey, Caro etc. They will play up the negative anti-mfc stuff regardless of what they really think just because its easy to sensationalise it.

I think Greeny should lose the captaincy too but brace yourselves for some ugly press. It will be interesting to see how the club handle this. I hope they go on the front foot and have a clear and reasonable explanation. It will depend too on how Greeny accepts it (or not?).

P.S. I also think it might turn out a good decision for Greeny re his on-field form

Its likely that this issue, the potential departure of the CEO and the Head of the FD and the coach appointment will be media fodder and we need to harden up.

Regardless of who has C next to their name,Brent Moloney is our leader and should captain for at least the next 2 years while other players (JT & JG) concentrate on their football without the heavy burden of worrying about the captaincy. It's a huge job captaining an AFL club with the media and sponsors etc. all wanting a piece of you on a weekly basis,it's not just tossing the coin on gameday.

Trengove and Grimes are nowhere near ready for the captaincy and those of you who voted for them know Jack about what it takes and how your onfield performance can suffer. Both of them will be leaders in 3-4 years but why push them into it at such a young age when their games aren't developed enough.

Great idea. Uh oh Sylvia got himself suspended for a cheap shot off the ball. What a leader.

That wasnt smart, he will learn.

Sylvia's Best is better than anyones and is coming of age in his performances.

Captains, need to be match winners, who can turn a game! or Lift a side

ie Neitz, Carey in his day, Today you have the likes of Hodge, Brown, etc.

I dont think anyone in the side has the ability to lift and change the game better than Colin.

Who was the last person to be able and have 29 touches and kick 5 goals.

Yes he got suspended, but he was hitting the body hard and didnt get it right. He was a man trying to lift his side to victory.

So IMO hes a bloody good choice.

Anyone can see, If you think about it, that here is a Big push for aggression & hardness to be added to players games.

Some of those who it doesn't come to easily to, will be clumsy as they TRY to adjust to adding aggro.

IMO, Davey and Sylvia both, accidentally over reacted trying to be aggressive at the ball and contest.

This can happen when difficult things are demanded of certain types.

You know what, beggars can't be choosers.

we have to get over ourselves worrying about this so called leaders pride. simply because we're not leaders. Not since 1964.

So we must just Get Over Ourselves!

First we can take some chances recruiting, and we can stop being 'Prim a Donas' about Tattoos etc. Who the Hell do we think we are?

We need a couple or 3, really non conservative, creative types, (forwards & mid) Extroverts.

And we need to not tell the players their Stars, when they've just played they're first games... We Overhype our own, and then convince ourselves they really are that good and so pay them that way.

And Captains,,, what we can sack a Coach, who's spent his career losing for Us, But we can't sack a 1st Yr Captain, who isn't physical enough???

what??????

# Edit: It almost seems that we're More concerned about Not making mistakes, in case we embarrass ourselves,,, than taking chances designed to Win!!!

That wasnt smart, he will learn.

When? He's 25 and has played 105 games of AFL football - by law of averages he's over half way through his career. I love Sylvia as a player, but it's clear that he's lacking when it comes to being disciplined. He hasn't got enough self control on or off the field to be in the frame as captain.

And? Being a really good player is just one box to be ticked for captain, and it's probably the least important box. If we'd done it your way, Jeff Farmer would've been our captain in 2000.

How would Sylvia go on these criteria?

- Complete professionalism, at all times, all year round?

- Thorough attitude towards training and recovery?

- Self-discipline on and off the field?

- Unwavering respect from his teammates?

- Able to effectively communicate with the group?

- Able to effectively communicate with the media?

All it says to me there is a fine line between a fair hit and an illegal hit, which gets you suspended.

Hit the head your out and there has been plenty of players had weeks off for going over that fine line.

If you play physical, you will win some, lose some.

- Thorough attitude towards training and recovery? Not at club wouldn't know, but he's as fit as anyone

- Self-discipline on and off the field? would have thought good these days.

- Unwavering respect from his teammates? would have to ask the players direct, how would anyone know that.

- Able to effectively communicate with the group? Talks ok with the media in interviews no worries, so should be able to talk to team mates.

- Able to effectively communicate with the media? see above. But often is a person of choice to do interviews.

From what i seen hes really good at it.

Do you want a good show poney or someone who will inspire on the field and lift the team to better performances.

The press are the ones who have been continually saying that we are bereft of leaders. They'll continue to write whatever they want to sell papers. All they do is backflips. Make the tough decisions, MFC. Green should not be captain. If we're to be a successful club once more, we must cut out the poisonously weak culture still lingering from the Daniher era.

Sylvia would be fantastic, Trengove too young.

If Green re-signs and plays on next year (which I'd bet on happening), then he will remain captain.

I could barely disagree more with this post.

Green may stay, but not as captain.

Trengove may be young, but he is much older than Colin Sylvia in every facet other than time spent on this earth.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
