OUT: Sylvia, Davey

IN: Bail, Tapscott

Dunn if Bail not up to it.

I do not think we should push Bail he has been out a long time with a leg injury.

I think last week was his first full game.

There are bigger fish to fry with Bail in 2012.

Let him get fitter at Casey with the view to next year.

Guys like Bail are the future lets not drive them into the ground for a game at the end of 2011.

Yeah I wasn't to sure on Bail, wasn't exactly sure on when he made his Casey return. If that's the case I'll stand by what I said and bring in Dunn. I know everyone has written him off but I'm a fan of him and do think while he is limited, he still offers something to the side.

I like him too however he is like Green.

he had a good year in 2010 and has been poor this year.

I think he is a forward and that is it.

We use him to fill holes and that is when his form seems to drop off.

I remember him Kicking a goal from outside 50 at Brisbane last year.

It won the game when it was up for grabs in the last quarter.

Do you really think if we get beaten by the GC on sunday it will have no effect on the membership level next year?

Do you think our membership will drop by 10000 as a result?

Given the way the season has gone, I think the outcome of the GC match like the Richmond will disappear into the ether as just part of a difficult year that's been.

And if you think Robbie Campbell will help us keep 10,000 members then FFS lets make him captain.

I will leave you with this thought...the quality of our list is young and the journey they have had so far has been hard to due to the legacy of the senior group before it but they will mature. There have been enough examples where sides have turned things around quite quickl. I think MFC with the right coach and support can do that over the next couple of years. I was speaking to the assistant coach of another AFL club who I have known well over the past 10 years and he is extremely positive about our list and the future for it. He understands the timeline of development and think we will have a good team in the coming years. Its too hard to say the level of success we will have given the number of variables at play. But i think there is a positive upside for our future years.

BTW, I dont think its a disgrace to lose to Gold Coast given the players we have out/ injuries and relative inexperience of the MFC team. FWIW, I think GC are one of the most exciting sides in the AFL. Their rise should be tracked over the coming years. The quality of their talent is undeniable but its young and immature and will take time to develop. But the signs are ominous although you might just see them as a 2nd last cellar dweller.

No I don't but it will not help next year if we lose either of the next two games.

I think the thing that worries me the most is the senior group is not good enough to get us through to the next stage.

if you are correct about the "kids" then who is going to help get them there over the next couple of years?

It is difficult to develop when you are getting thrashed.

I see some very large problems ahead.

I really do hope you are correct the alternative is too bad to think about.

Ok. So we can put th 10k claim aside.

I think you would have to admit that the senior group are not good enough to get through the current stage. It was always a risk if the current group could stand up and be counted to lead and have a positive contribution. We know they cant. Its better we find that out now unequivocally now. Its unfortunate. The large problems ahead that you see, are they not the problems we know and have now? the senior group wont be there for the next stage. And if they are they will be peripheral and the behaviour and reaction from some of those players reflects that and its reality. The future is in the under 23s who need experience, phyisical development and maturity. Theres the future. Add to that Viney junior, a fit Grimes and further development in the young squad you see and things start to change.

I am not so worried about the alternative. Its already here and its whether MFC accepts it and makes to right decisions (re coaching).

Jimmi - Jetta in twice (back pocket and bench). That said I agree he should be in this week.

Thats ( decision making )probably what worries me the most.

We have not been very good at it in the past.

Has everyone at the club been told to shut up.

The silence on almost every subject is deafing.

In which respect? A new coach?

It seems apparent that over the past 12 months there have been leaks of varying sorts to the media. If that has stopped then that is good. Otherwise I am not sure what else there is spread in the Press. Lyon should be working behind closed doors on the necessary issues. FD departures will happen once the season is over. I think the view is now to get through it.

FWIW, MFC have thrown the coaching offer out to Clarkson.

What else were you expecting?

The official website, which is usually a good portent early in the week to possible debutantes list four players 'in the mix' to earn a callup for this weeks game:

Jetta, McNamara, McDonald & Fitzpatrick

Four Youngsters in the Mix

Given we've got two mandatory changes, its fair to say at least one may be a gig

Not sure perhaps someone to pat me on the head

and tell me it is all a dream.

That's good to see, it's a good opportunity over these 2 rounds to give players a taste - GC and PA will be a smaller step up from VFL. Fitzy and McDonald would be good to look at.

I'm also keen on giving Tom McNamara a go - he's been playing in the Casey midfield all year and is often in the bests - he's got a big body and is definitely worth a look.

I'd bring them in for Davey, Sylvia and Joel Mac. It'd mean we're going taller so might need to sub a tall during the game. Jetta unlucky.

McKenzie is one of our most dedicated players, he does however seem to be nervous about disposal by foot and much prefers a handpass. Can we get him to the FARK academy that most of the forwards seem to have visited in the last few weeks? I was very impressed with accuracy up to the start of the fourth quarter, that is all that kept us in the game to that point as we had only half the scoring shots that the rabble did.

As to ins, I would love to see Bail play again.

I don't think there is much point going with Bate, McNamara or Warnock. Fitzy I don't think is ready yet. So barring any unknown injuries I'd go with:

Out: Davey, Sylvia, Tom McDonald

In: Lawrence, Jetta, Joel Macdonald

Posted

I really want to see Tom MacDonald and Troy Davis get a run. Just one game each will do the job so we can have a look at what they can do. MacDonald in particular has been an emergency several times. Surely he deserves a chance.

Reading between the lines on the MFC webiste article, and seeing that some players are clearly playing hurt at the moment i have revised my original opinion and anticipate something like:

Out- Sylvia, Davey, Howe (for Casey finals), Jamar (rested- something seems off with him physically), Scully (injured and needs to be rested)

In- Jetta, Tapscott, Gawn, McDonald, Fitzpatrick

I would think Bail actually needs another week at Casey given the length of his layoff and the fact that we don't need or want to take risks with bringing blokes back early.

Agree with you Goag. What is the use of rushing Bail back.

I know you said reading between the lines

Scully look fine to me physically on Sunday.

His bloody poor decision making of when to hand pass annoys me

He actually played his best game of the year...not that the bar was set that high.

If, from all accounts, that was a satisfactory output, then the club is in deep hsti (anagram)!

Whoever is to coach next year, the old MFC thought process "near enough, good enough" just has to disappear.

And I don't mean the penultimate coach's " er, umm, we are, er umm, going to be , er, umm, ruthless from now on" empty platitude - the new guy has to DEMAND IT and call all those not prepared to give it their all, all match, every match, to account.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
