I've just written to the club suggesting we should start repositioning ourselves as Melbourne United. Maybe not changing our name but we could use United on our car stickers etc until subtlety our name becomes synonymous with United. It has a number of advantages one of which is we carry the name of this great city not some suburb. In effect we try and become the umbrella club for the whole of metropolitan Melbourne.

Only if we're going to switch codes......appalling idea.

I am waiting for someone to suggest Melbourne Disarray or Melbourne Chaotic.

"Melbourne Football Club" --- "The Melbourne Demons" --- "Melbourne United" === "Greater Melbourne United" (inc footscray, north, richmond. home games split between mcg and etibad. jumpers:red, blue, black, yellow and white arranged via photoshop. i think in twenty years time this will be a reality, because the 'melbourne' branding is too valuable for the afl corporates to surrender, andd the residual clubs too poor to resist.

Same sort of gimmick saw North change their name to Kangaroos, saw Footscray become Western has really worked hasn't it.

Please check the bottle next time.

Between 1908 and 1914 there was a MUFC team in the VFL - Melbourne University. The team was aweful.

It folded when wartime hostilies began and wasn't readmitted into the competition.

Not a good omen for any proposed revival of an MUFC.

I like your sentiment, But We are Melbourne, & screww the rest!

We are the original Aussie rules Club and the Idea of copying the format of an inferior codes terminology into ours is way, how you say? offside?

I would post the link to the youtube clip but I think it would be too vulgar for this forum, what with the "Drink Coke" campaign - but hilarious nonetheless! One of my favourites :-)

I read somewhere a manu fan wrote a letter to his club saying they should rename the club MFC. The reason he gave was that if it is good enough for the oldest effing footy club in the world it was good enough for manu B)
