You could, and you'd be right. But guess what? At least two and possibly all three of them will be given the toss come end of year. Already having cloggers on the list is not a reason to add more cloggers to the list.

How is Fevola a list-clogger though? He would be our starting Full Forward every week? It's not like he is going to get drafted and then just play at Casey week in-week out! Everyone says he will be gone in 2-3 seasons and it isn't worth it... but why couldn't he do a Barry Hall or Alistair Lynch and play until he is 35-36 if he is good enough? If he gets to 32-33 and is overtaken by Fitzpatrick or Cook, then say thanks and send him on his way. That is best case scenario anyway, because it means they are both as good as we'd hoped they would be... but if God forbid they turn out to be list-cloggers, at least we have Fevola to fill the gap until we can develop someone else. We could do much worse!

Well, considering we have had list cloggers for years and years, I would be willing to throw Fev a lifeline and

give him a pre-season to see what shape he could get himself into. I don't know why you, or anyone else that barracks

for this club would be against that idea.

This club needs to take a flippin' risk right about now I'm thinking. As I have said in my OP however, giving him a

pre-season is no risk at all.

And on the Bate, Dunn and Newton issue. We have no idea whether any of them will be given the flick and given

Melbourne's track record with this kind of thing, I can see us keeping them.

great post!

With Fev there Fitzpatrick or Cook may not get the chance to overtake him.

Say Fev was at Richmond, is there a chance the Jack would have never got the chance to shine on his own?

I haven't heard of Fev getting in trouble at all this year. His rehab is a positive step in the right direction. As many of the pro-Fev supports are saying; give him a 2 year contract with clauses that terminate his contract in the case of any misdeamenour. At the moment we have no big bodied forward, with experience, or leadership. Atleast onfield Fev can lead by example and take the pressure of the younger forwards.

sorry did I hear Leadership and Fevola in the one sentence or was that the bus driver talking about RSI to the pensioner driving to Crown (or the Cranbourne RSL)

I bet Carlton and Brisbane are kicking themselves that they didn't think of this.

Nasher c'mon, you can do better than that.

Would you say Cousins had a postive or negative effect at Richmond?

Was Krakouer a good pick up for the pies?

Everyone deserves a another chance.

Even you, after that post...

I'm all for taking risks.

I'm all for bringing in older heads (as our senior players are rubbish).

But I want to win a flag.

Fevola doesn't bring that.

That is true to a point, but there is the flipside in that he could get us into finals contention and that would provide invaluable experience to the younger less experienced players on the list.

Does he push us in to flag contention?

Posted

Fixed for you sweet ckeeks.

Still doesn't work, but that's ok.

Close enough is good enough.

And I still don't agree that bringing in Fevola is the answer to any question we want to ask.

Fev has proven to be toxic to two AFL clubs now and let's be honest, he never really set the stage on fire at the Lions before it all started to fall apart again.

Melbourne does not the media coverage/circus that would surround Fevola if he returned to AFL ranks.

He might be able to kick a goal but when it's all said and done, he's an absolute dead-sh*t that would add no long term value to the club. As other posters have commented, we have to move forward with the potential shown from our draftee's, not a bloody has-been like Fev.

Get real.

There is going to be a LOT of player movement before we win a flag rpfc. Get used to it.

Time to stop putting development and skinny kids before everything else

Learning how to win and fighting for a game is just as important for 'development'

I'm not saying get Fevola though, but am giving it some consideration (a pov unthinkable to me 6 months ago)

Just because Bailey was all about development doesn't mean the new coach will be.

If results were demanded of me, stuff lucas cook etc development. being 10-8 right now from having fev = more development than 186 point no lube smashings.

Posted

Nope. Turn Howe into a Jack Riewoldt type, combined with Watts playing a Nick Riewoldt role, then park a bulked Cook or Fitz in the goal square. Don't need him, seriously.

It's not just about kids.

I would bring in a 30 year old pro for a couple of years if the price was right and he was an upgrade on our curent senior players, especially in terms of leadership.

Fevola is a child upstairs.

He would be a burden for our young leaders to handle.

Haha imagine young Jack Trengove yelling at Fev telling him to pull his head in... would need the Russian standing behind him as a body guard I think.

These thing are great, but don’t forget:

• Theft of jackets from a drycleaners in North Melbourne; he was fined $8000

• Involved in an incident at Crown Casino no charges were laid, but he was suspended by Carlton for a week.

• Assaulted a barman during a tour of Ireland in 2006 with the Australian International Rules team, and was sent back to Australia

• Fined $10,000 and traded after behaving inappropriately at the 2009 Brownlow Medal count.

• Proceedings started to sue Fevola for breach of privacy, defamation and misuse of an image for the release of a nude photo.

• Formal police investigation into claims that Fevola had flashed a woman at a Brisbane park during a football clinic.

• Arrested in Brisbane on charges of public nuisance and obstructing police

• 65 days in rehabilitation for gambling addiction.

I really like the guy and would absolutely love him to get another chance, but there is a lot of baggage that I think the MFC could do without.

And what hassles has he created since going to Casey- twice or three times at the pokies... get real- we need players whom can play- he can play and I feel he has turned himself around.. could even become a great on field leader given the power to be one..Are you an Australian.. if so - the old aadage - give the bloke a go is IMO. the best remedy for us..

You'd have to be kidding- we'd go absolutely backwards..that is our issue this year.. we need proven leaders..and need to recruit at least one this next draft..look at what Bock has done at the Suns this year..we need a some experienced senior leaders..at the helm..and some will come up..Fevola would be an ideal leader in the forward line..would release Green to the guts or wing.We are right for experience in defence.Fevola would be worth 5 goals a match himself kicking 60 and giving leadership and experience to the other forwards.

Experience in the forward line such as..

HF: Petterd (49 games) Watts (37) HOWE(10)

FF: Wonaeamirri (31) Fevola(204) JURRAH (33)

IMO- it is a no brainer in giving him a go..he'd certainly be in my team..

Yep, exactly.

And Fev is anything BUT a proven leader.

Proven nuisance, distraction and club cancer, however...

In terms of leadership I'm unsure that there is a backwards from where we currently are.

Proven leaders would be nice, but they come at a cost. They rarely move clubs at all, and when they do, they require heaven and earth to be moved in the process. The next best option is to fast track the babies we have in to leaders. The only other option - and the worst option - is to maintain the status quo and have the same mob lead us next year.

Edit: Not that I'd consider Fevola leadership...

It was this statement of yours "He would be a burden for our young leaders to handle." Aw shucks!

It was this protective motherhood instinct of yours - same as Bailey. Time to toughen up.

Personally I think the idea was right, but the wording was wrong.

Not so much a burden, but I think his attitude could have a detrimental effect on the younger players.

Just my opinion, but I think a lot of people share it.

There's pros & cons on both sides of the fence but for me I reckon the pros out weight the cons.

From all reports he's been really well behaved and a great influence down at Casey, and I don't see why we shouldn't take a punt. Neither Cook or Fitzpatrick will be ready to hold down FF for us next year but will have have the position open at Casey for them to develop as Fev would no longer be there.

Green can always move to half back where I reckon he could play a Nick Maxwell type role with good effect. Would mean we may have Jurrah & Howe battling it out for 1 sport but competition is good! Also once injuries come into it I have no doubt they'll both get a lot of games still.

We're always complaining that Melbourne aren't bold enough. Well what could be more bold then two huge signings in the off season. Malthouse as coach and Fev taken with our 3rd or 4th pick in teh draft!

Imagine the line up next year

FB: Garland, Frawley, Nicholson

HB: Grimes, Rivers, Green

C: Trengove, Moloney, Scully???

HF: Howe, Watts, Petterd

FF: Martin, Fevola, Davey

FOLL: Jamar, Gysberts, McKenzie

INT: Jones, Sylvia, Tapscott

SUB: Bail

EMERG: Blease, Fitzpatrick, Jurrah

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
