Let's focus on winning games again

Perhaps this is too simplistic, but I would like to see the club to forget its focus on player development for the rest of the season, and just field our best 22 each week with the primary goal of winning the bloody game.

Simple stuff. The hardest, best player in each position. And not out of position either - if their best position is as a half forward flank, play them there. If not, drop them to Casey for development.

The Scott brothers don't seem to over-complicate things. Hard contested football and a desire to win should now be our only focus.

Funnily enough, I don't see a great difference between our "best 22" and our "development 22."

spot on I thought last week if you take the injuries into account it was nearly as good as it gets.

simply our best 22 or our develop 22 are not good enough.

results prove the point and we don't just lose we get killed.

Yeah just back to basics. Play honest football and let the new coach make all the hard decisions. Stuff the development crap. This has just put issues into players heads.

If not for that 21 step running goal from Garlett last saturday, scores would have been level at quarter time.

Viney got the team playing good Tough Footy...we just couldn't sustain it.

Yes I suppose we did at least start well but the usual happened.

I think we are so lacking in confidence and our senior players playing so poorly

that nothing will get us up this year.

I am confident that a large number of the team now believe they are not good enough.

So the result bares out their expectations.

I have no idea how you change that before the start of 2012.

hopefully a new coach and assistants might get it done.

Before the club picks the team next week Viney and the Football Department(?) should sit down one on one with each of the senior players and tell them they have a future with the club; or not.

I agree that we need to field the best side, but that means the best side, we need a team to go out on the field not a group of players, half of whom don't know if they have a future with us anymore. We are not playing as a team and it's more like we have 18 individuals out on the park all trying to impress the club or possible suitors from other clubs. I can understand it i've seen guys that have worked their butt off for years at a company only to be told that they are no longer required and will be replaced by a 21 year old kid who is more computer savvy.

You can't just put the older players out to pasture at Casey and expect there to be no complaints; these guys rely on this for a living and the more games they get in the 1's the more they earn; you can see why they get the shits when they know they are good enough but don't get a game because of a "Youth Policy". I've said in the past we should play the kids but I'm prepared to admit I was wrong and the disunity at the club is proof of this.

I agree. The club seems not to enjoy the trust of the senior players, which is a terrible sign. As I've said before, the axing of Junior was a disaster for the club - now that Bailey has gone, I would try to get Junior back to the club in some capacity. If only, to try to rebuild trust and relationships (clearly he'd also offer a lot more than that).

And the focus on the 'youth policy' has been hugely over-done IMO - other clubs seem much better at continually rolling their lists whilst being competitive and having a core of really committed senior players. Four years into the 'youth policy', and I have never seen the MFC be more uncompetitive against the top 6-8 teams.

Yeah play for the moment and we'll gradually get there.

.

This is a bad plan at this stage. Our new coach should have input into the shape of the team going forward indeed that is vital it may even change the attitudes of those on the edge.

I would be having talks with those potential coaches and finding out who they see as required and vital.

As for the flawed premise of this thread, it assumes that our team and coaches have not been focussed on winning. I simply dont believe that.

Sending Sylvia back to the two's was essential to get his head in the right space namely "you are a good player but doing just enough is not going to cut it going forward".

I'd be doing less talking with the players about the future what is needed is a culture shift. Viney has started it, you dotn perform to your potential you go back to the two's reputation doesn't matter anymore.

I agree with all of this but the last line - you were not wrong.

We may not have managed it properly (or got rid of the wrong senior players - only one comes to mind) but the decision to move to the youth policy was the right one, and we are seeing the proof of that this year.

I have a post on one of the "Brad's a bad captain" threads about this, but the senior players think that we have moved too far away from our 'best' team in our youth policy - I say they have confirmed the suspicions of those at the club - and their zeal - that put the youth policy in place.

It creates disharmony, but the truth is the truth and Green, Warnock, Bate, Dunn, and MacDonald won't be in the best 22 when we are a top 4 team. Davey, Moloney, and Rivers will be largely on the periphery, and Sylvia will be...well that's largely up to him...

Jamar would be the only senior player certain to be an important player in our push.

The "Senior Player Fallout of 2011" is the crisis the club had to have.

Good plan robbie, telling them they have no future can wait till september.

A few have 4 games to prove they have a future.

When do we send Green to Casey?

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
