That still remains to be correct in the case of Thommo. He had no real choice, and it wasn't his desire to leave the club and go back home. Therefore the example is flawed.

Their respective dispositions may be mutually exclusive. What we DO know is that if Scully leaves then MFC will have more salary cap to use to retain other players like Trengove. If it is just a financial decision then Adelaide will have more difficult time getting Trengove from MFC if Scully is not there.

I would have thought Adelaide would be interested in Trengove regardless what Scully does. And if Scully were to stay at MFC then there is less MFC salary cap to stretch to Trengove. So Adelaide would have more scope to put a more attractive $$$ bid to Trengove. If Scully were to go then MFC would be fighting like hell to retain Trengove. Damn logic.

Besides, with the way both SA clubs are going at the moment, I don't think the proposition of going back there is very appealing. Port Adelaide are struggling to pay the electricity bills, how the hell are they going to pay for marquee players?

In addition to his trial by fire with the very testing tribunal stuff he has had to endure this year, Jack's representation of our club and himself IMO simply cannot be challenged.

Jack is calm under pressure,can handle himself with the media, shows maturity beyond his years has a good sense of humour. Oh and he can play footy a little bit. Roo might have just added the captaincy or vice captaincy to Jack's MFC CV next year. I hope so anyway.

I don't know why I bother, however, Thompson did NOT return home because he was home sick. He returned home because he had family matters he had to attend to. He didn't simply get home sick, chuck a hissy fit and left.

He told the club he wanted to go, and he helped us out by saying that he'll go to whichever SA club gave us a better deal. That is as much as any departing player can really do. Of course given he had to return home we had no leg to stand on so had to take a relatively poor deal, although in reality we replaced him with who is now our Vice Captain. Granted Moloney is not as good a player, but he has given us great service and will continue to do so for many years.

We got pick 12 which we on-traded for Brent Moloney, current vice-captain and probable B&F winner.

Thommo has been better than Beamer over the journey, however I think we were pretty adequately compensated for a bloke that wanted out.

Thats pretty much my memory of it as well.

I agree with "why you little" that if sculz leaves this would significantly damage melbournes finals/premiership aspirations, something which Trenners has indicated, values highly and could open the door.

You quoted slyvia and mclean as proof the notion of "blood brothers" doesn't exist. While you're right there is no proof that getting drafted together creates any link, however being part of an elite young brigade has proven to be a sticking point and "mantra" for clubs searching for premiership success. St Kilda which was inches away from a flag forged a blood brother mentality within their young core year ago, as was done with Geelong. Both teams faced salary cap pressure and stuck together. I somehow doubt this would have been the case had Reiwoldt or Bartel left their club at 20-23 for bigger bucks, that they would have stuck together as they did.

MFC should still play finals football with or without Scully. Hell, we have had Scully missing alot of the year and we are still in the hunt for finals. Trengove still can achieve his objectives without Scully. There could be more issues if Scully stayed was paid $$$$$ and Trengove was only offered $$$. Money may not be the be all but it should rankle if you are performing at or better than the level of another player and are getting less money. I am sure Trengove values respect.

I used to McLean and Sylvia as an example that WYL's nexus of Scully and Trengove has little water just because they were in the same draft and got there jumper at the same time. Every premiership team has "blood brothers". It just isnt restricted to being drafted in the same year. MFC will still have an elite brigade of players even without Scully. Nice to keep him but it does not make the rest suddenly ordinary if he goes. And if Trengove wants to leave MFC to find an "elite young brigade", why would he choose Adelaide? They are not elite now and because of the drafting situation with GWS and GC wont be elite for some time. Hmmmm.

I am in love with him, and I would have virtually no qualms at all with him being made captain next year. Would go a long way towards any fears (which I don't hold) that he may leave, and also to appease the fact that he is getting paid less than Scully.

WTF!!!!! Trengove is not from Adelaide, he's from a town close to the Vic border, in fact it's about halfway between the two cities.

There is no go-home factor to Adelaide.

Roo may have been talking about Jackson Trengove yes, but don't forget our Jack was one of the Best on ground in the 2009 SANFL GF. So they will be watching him very closely....albeit quietly. You can bet your dinner on that one.

The main reason Thompson left was because of Daniher. He hated his guts. You're welcome to disbelieve me, but many people within the club know this to be true.
