Last Sunday I was concussed when hit in the head by an Izak Rankine set shot. I find that since then I’m an exceptionally nice person. 😁

I simply cannot be rude even if I tried, to such a degree that I don’t feel like vomiting at every post of yours. But…

… you’re pushing it here, buddy. We sheilas are the backbone of society. Don’t you forget it!

PS: make the most of this niceness since it mayn’t last long. If Gilligan’s Island or any of those old shows are anything to go by, I’ll be restored to my old self when next I’m hit in the head. This could happen as soon as tomorrow coz sitting directly behind the goals is an invitation for such. 😳

Perhaps you should imitate Gus and wear head protection?

We do have a massive Gussy fan who wears a replica Gussy helmet during every match. Pretty pointless though, he’s been hit on the head with it on and without and he says there was no difference. I was lucky not to have suffered a very bad outcome. The ball hit the mini banner I was holding aloft and because I was pulling it taut it lessened the impact to my head. There’s been way worse things that’ve happened to others: one of our CS members once saw the ball coming at warp speed and reflexively put her arm in front of her then 10yo daughter’s face to protect her and ended up with a broken wrist. Also, folks who wear glasses are sitting ducks. 😑

Ouch! Should they leave those pre-game nets up then? That sounds seriously dangerous.

Yanks have changed ladder for medals in swimming World Championships, which is always Gold medal leader first and so on. They started their reporting that way.

Now that Aussies are leading with 10 Gold to USA 3, they have changed the leader ladder to total of all medals won first.

Pathetic!

It wouldn’t be the same watching through nets. ☹️

Incidentally, pre-game goal kicking practice is when many mishaps occur, despite the net. Firstly, the balls are coming hard and fast and repeatedly. You’d be amazed at how many of them go over the net or on either side. But the main reason is because we’re not watching the players. We get all the gear out and set up our area etc. and for the most part have our backs to them. All good, concussion protocols don’t apply to the CS. 😊

In the US, international sport is defined as "The US beats the world", so anything inconsistent with that is downplayed, at best.

For the 2009 Queen's Birthday game I sat behind the goals at the city end with my then Pies gf. During the warm up shots at goal I looked down for a couple of seconds, probably to look at my phone and the next thing I know there is a Sherrin footy right there in my lap! It landed there perfectly as if I’d chest marked it. No pain, no nothing. Amazing luck, you couldn't make it up.

I remember Jim Stynes had caught a ball in the crowd earlier that season so I raised it up and yelled that I was Jimmy to everyone!

On a more serious note, has anyone noticed that aperol spritz often tastes quite different, depending on the maker?

PS: Mrs Redleg is quite partial to an expresso martini and I can tell you, from having sneaked a sip here and there, they are quite delicious.

Have to admit rather sheepishly, I had my first pinacolada in many years last night and it was very disappointing. I remember it as a creamy drink and this one wasn’t that at all.

On another note, what BS the AFL spins, with another example being the ambassadorial money they allow some clubs like the rumoured hundreds of thousands of dollars Dimma could be paid by the AFL to coach GC, outside the footy cap for “promoting Queensland footy”.

What pure garbage. Just say you are giving them a handout, to get the coach you want them to have.

My last pinacolada was in Vegas about 8 years ago at Paris casino. It came in a massive Eiffel tower glass and I could see the guy tip half a bottle of rum in. I just managed to make it to the end but got dared to have another one. I was totally floored the next day and could barely move. The mere smell of pineapple juice made me sick for at least a year afterwards.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
