Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

The part about GC using pick 4 as part of a package to get Jaeger is interesting. Can't really see any other clubs being able to compete with a bid like that.

It seems that we won't be able to compete with the big swingers in all this, with rumours about SMitchell and Aaron sandilands. Maybe we can throw our own Aaron hat into the ring, berlei up something?

An "after first round" compensation pick would, i.e. GWS finish last and it would become pick 2... i believe

Why these are the valuable ones

Pretty sure, even if GWS got hold of it, it would still be after our pick.

Eg. GWS finish with pick 2, we finish with pick 13, GWS use our on-traded compensation pick and it comes at pick 14.

Remember after this year 9 of the first 15 picks are not GWS. Therefore you move up the order by 8 picks so the compo pick becomes far more valuable.

I reckon since 2012 is regarded as such a strong draft, every team with a 1st round compensation pick, and probably even after, will be nominating.

I expect we will show progress and finish in the 8.

If that happens and eg. 4 team below us activate 1st round compo picks, ours all slide back another 4 picks.

It's strength could be negated by other teams.

By my reckoning, Geelong and Gold Coast both have a 1st round compo pick.

Brisbane maybe, can't remember.

Not sure who else, but I expect the dogs will have one too for Ward.

Adelaide maybe for Davis.

Didn't Gold Coast achieve in getting back 3 compo picks ? Can't recall which were 1st, 2nd round, etc but I recall their delight.

They got 1 from Brisbane (end of 1st Rd as part of trade for Rohan Berwick), 1 from Geelong (mid-first rd, straight swap for pick 15) and one from Port (2nd rd compo for Simon Philips and pick 35)

Article form the AFL website, highlighting 8 players who have been invited to the draft screening as underage players,

Including Jaeger and Brad Crouch

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/123309/default.aspx

Personally would love Crouch also and i imagine would cost half of what Jaeger will

Would we be willing to trade our 2 compo picks for Jaeger? It would end up being Scully for Jaeger, which from all reports would be a fair trade. The expansion clubs place a premium on compo picks as they know they will be bottom four for the initial years. I think this trade would be a win/win.

i'd be willing to give both compo picks for Omeara, and a scully for Jager swap would be win/win. But another way to look at it is we would have given up/lost Scully + 2 first-round compo picks to GWS for a player that was never theirs in the first place. If it is consider a win for us, then it is daylight robbery from a GWS perspective.

I disagree- we have a very good young mid field group developing now, add in Viney and we seem to have a good mix. We need to have a go at O'Meara but we don't need to offer the kitchen sink for him.

I think I'd prefer to Organise Gaff. Maybe a 3 way involving the Scully deal somehow?

I'd hate to get, then lose a Perth boy on the back of $ulky.

I dont see the real A grade depth in our midfield tbh, Moloney (when he is on), Gysberts and Trenners

Maybe Blease and Mckenzie thats not enough even with jones and Viney

People say that trading with GWS should be a no no, i disagree, who cares, they will end up with so many high picks and young players that they will need to give them away come 3-4 years when their cap runs dry... thats my take

Why not take O'meara or Crouch now then someone else back on a decent contract when Moloney retires??

And bottom line two picks around 10 is day light robbery from our perspective if we land )O'meara from reports, a potential top 3 pick

We must absolutely go after O'Meara if he is as good as they say he is.

The best teams always have elite midfielders and we need to replace Scully with an elite midfielder.

We should be in a reasonable position with our compensation picks.

The compensation picks can be used any time over a five year period so this would give GWS a chance to build their list through a number of different drafts, rather than just relying on the 2011 draft (which is reportedly not that strong) to build up their talent.

Gold Coast would be the big threat given their compensation picks, but other than them we should be able to offer GWS more in terms of draft picks than other clubs could offer.

If we couldn't get O'Meara but we believed that there would be an elite midfielder available at say pick 5 this year who we think would be better than someone available at pick 11 next year, we could look to trade one of the compensation picks to GWS for pick 5 in this year's draft and pick up that elite midfielder in 2011.

He looks like an absolute jet.

I've only seem some short video of him on the AFL website, but he looks like Cotchin but a lot faster.

Pretty good combo.

The other team that can get close to our offer would be Gold Coast. They have a mid 1st round pick like us (due to a trade for part of Geelong's Ablett compensation). They also have an end of first round pick (from Brisbane).

We have a mid first round compo pick and a first round compo pick.

Other than that, Gold Coast have pick 4 in this draft.

It'll be interesting to see how much it's going to cost for O'Meara.

We have to be smart about it. Gold Coast could offer up their pick 4 in this draft for O'Meara. So if that's the benchmark, we'll have to beat it.

Gold Coast already have 3 compo picks up their sleeve as well.

One of the compo picks we have is a first rounder which falls to where the team finishes though. So if GWS were to win 3 or less games next year, that would almost guarantee them pick ~2 for 2012. Which would in theory trump Gold Coast's offer of pick 4. GWS need strong bodies - probably something GC don't have. So the first round compo and a player we'd be willing to give up - that they might need, might just be the benchmark. Otherwise, they may demand two picks. Unless this so called "big fish" comes along from another club !

If we could somehow get an experienced player in by trade as well as trump all in netting O'Meara with pick 12 still up our sleeve, I would consider it a job well done this trade period.

Good suggestion. At least all parties have given something to get something. Problem is that gc could blow deal out of the water if they really want omeara. However if dees and wc gives up a decent player (esp wc) it might get done.

Being honest it would take Westcost more, O'Meara being better than Gaff, also will be far better offers than one first rounder and average player to GWS,

Maybe if Westcoast offer their first rounder? which is still only 25 thats where i cant see this getting done

I hope that if we don't get Jaeger, we well and truly push his price up beyond what is reasonable.

I think our 2 compo picks are actually right on the cusp of what is "reasonable".

Only thing is, I'd like to retain a 1st round pick for 2012, outside of the one that will ge eaten for Viney.

Pick 12 and a compo pick probably won't do it, but it's better than pick 4 alone.

And I think pick 4 plus a compo pick are over the odds.

Also to come into the equation are any players of ours that GWS might want.

I'm not talking spuds - I mean Petterd, Tapscott, Bartram.

Guys that have some value, but are still periphery players.

And also whatever we might get back in other trades, that we could maybe offer for Jaeger.

Gonna be a very interesting trade week!

I reckon we should. Simply because this kid is going to be something very special. We cannot get scared off from the 'he who must not be named' incident. That is a 'once in an eternity' situation. One that will not be repeated in a long long time.

These mini-draft picks are the equivalent of #1 picks for next year (- Lachie Whitfield). O'Meara is everything Scully was at the same age, only with better explosive pace and vastly superior disposal. Whether or not we can land him is one thing, but we need to develop our own stars. This kid is similar to 'you know who' in that the chance of him turning into a star is more likely than not. Our most important players have been tucked away, i'd be very willing to offer both compo picks for O'Meara, simply because, even though the 2012 draft is meant to be unbelievable, every Tom, Dick and Harry will be looking to take advantage of the first undiluted draft and use their compo picks here, further pushing some of ours down the pecking order.

And let's not forget, just because we have signed up the likes of Morton, doesn't mean we can't trade them, we just need their consent, but are protecting ourselves from walkouts.

The only problem with drafting O'Meara is, with all excitement that would come with it, we'd still have to wait 12 months, who's not to say that a Sam Blease incident won't take place??? But i'm willing to take the risk!

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
