Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

I am curious if others think that he and trenners are complimentary in their styles.

in a way, their combination reminds me more than a little of the 'chemistry' that seemed to exist between Green and Bruce when they both first started playing together.

Hey, when they first started playing together, that combination took us to a grand final game, if I remember rightly.

With every day that passes, it becomes more certain Scully is gone. If he was staying he would indicate that he wished to remain at the MFC "subject to contract agreement" like so many other players. Sadly this is not the case.

The only evidence that supports Scully staying is his word and in my opinion Scully had no choice but to lie and say that there had been no contact from GWS. (Does anyone really believe “no contact”). If he had said the truth , he would be hounded all season, whatever the case this year would be far harder for him than it would be denying contact. Even Gary Lyon (I think) said earlier in the season that the AFL allowing players to sign early with the new clubs was “forcing” players to lie. In my opinion Tom Scully is whom he was directly referring to.

Honestly, I believe we are clutching at straws now. The evidence that Scully is going has become compelling. Scully will be offered 2 -3 fold what he could make at the Dees and quite frankly this is a massive reason why to leave. In any other job or any other sport we would not even be considering a possibility that he could stay.

I am sure the MFC know he is going and are desperately trying to organise a “Visy” style deal in a long shot that they can somehow maintain him. It will very difficult to organise a large enough “Visy” type deal for a 20yo who has not won a Brownlow, Premiership or Norm Smith (AKA Judd) and does not yet have the media presence that all this plus a model wife brings. Its media presence that makes “Visy” type deals commercial for the company.

As deeply disappointed as I am, I have no hard feelings towards Tom. Good luck to him and better luck to the MFC next time around.

Can we talk about his on field performances for a moment instead.

Trenners a hard ball winner with scully having the ability to make space and run (and run and run) a la Judd.

Thoughts?

They're the perfect couple. I lost count at the amount of times they linked up together last Friday.

Tom and Jack make the world of difference.

Hmm I don't quite agree with your sentiments towards the conclusion of your post.

If Tom is being offered a contract around the $1mill mark, then I hate to think how much more Pendleubry, Selwood, Franklin and co were offered. Still yet all these young superstars are happy to take their $500,000 odd contract and repay the faith which the club instilled into them. At the end of the day it comes down to the individual, plenty of big names have knocked back huge contracts to join GC and GWS.

Was actually Jimmy, not Gazza.

I can't understand how people can not see the merit in the argument that he is waiting to see the outcome of the CBA, and also to perform this year enabling him to raise his price. If he had been offered a large amount by GWS and didn't want to take it, then it makes absolute sense to wait and squeeze every single dollar possible out of Melbourne, making it easier to swallow turning down the GWS offer. I have met Tom, and have absolutely no reason to believe that he would lie about this, and as such can not see why he would have earlier in the season. Let's remember that he was the one that asked to do the presser because he wanted to clear the air. It is becoming a bit obvious that other than financially a move to GWS would not be good for his career. Now if you are a kid like Tom, who is one of the hardest training most dedicated players in the whole bloody league, and has been that dedicated all his life, then you would give up really good money and a shot at a flag, for even better money and a shot at struggling. Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Let's not forget, either way he will be rich, it's just a question of to what level. I believe he needs the flag more than a couple extra mil.

Liam Pickering made an interesting comment on League Teams on Fox last night about this whole CBA thing. In terms of holding off contract negotiations, it should not be an issue, as the contract now can have a clear cause in there that if players payments are to increas by X%, then the agreed salary would be increased by that same figure.

Pretty straight forward way of taking the CBA part out of the picture.

Sorry for all those sceptics, this will send you in to an absolute frenzy...feast away!

Fair enough, however this doesn't change the fact that playing a full season and performing as he knows he can will raise his value.

Stop that. Stop that right now.

Don't post the actual words Tom spoke.

They have no meaning.

They're lies, all lies. He's a liar.

Lies...........

His best friend's uncle who is a close associate of Gubby Allen's best mate signed a Heads of Agreement on Tom's behalf in 2010 for a million a season.....

Oh wait, hang on a second, i just summed up this thread again....

If Callum Ward Is being offered 800,000 then Scully would be offered a mil no worries. If he hasnt signed I'm backing the club to retain him but I do have fears he may of signed already.

His manager would not be so derelict in his duties to have allowed him to sign anything binding so far. Potentially a HoA to give him some wiggle room, but I would be astounded if they allowed anything binding so early on. Too much water to go under the bridge.

Callan Ward's manager actually came out and made those claims, because Callan is actually from the western suburbs and wants to stay at the kennell, but also obviously wants to push his price up, using a supposed figure from GWS to help his cause.

Who knows if the figure is real?

GWS aren't going to refute it - it only helps their cause too.

there's never an "infinite loop" emoticon around when you need one!

Ha ! So right - this is an ILD of the highest order ( infinite loop debate).

I think the mods could delete 99.75% of the posts and put up 3 posts only

1/ he is going post

2/ he is staying post

3/ no idea either way post

We have 2 facts only

1/ Late last year Scullys management said all negotiations are off until end of season 2011

2/ March 2011 - Scully stated he has signed nothing and reaffirmed fact one.

I have read every argument repeated for

1/ why he is going

2/ why he is staying

Everything written apart from the 2 facts is fluff, nonsense, opinion, conjecture and speculation. I fall firmly fall into have no idea either way and what will be will be.

If you read the last bit backwards quickly it actually says the following "ereh erutuf eht fo trap eb ot tnaw I" Notice that "part" becomes "trap"....make of it what you will but I found it very interesting.

Do you think we'd need him to prove himself this year to raise his value of his next contract? We knew last year that he was going to be a star, any games this year were just going to confirm it.

The reason for my post was that people are saying how he is waiting to sign is to see what the CBA brings, but I'm just saying that most player manager's would do what Liam Pickering said. Therefore, ending that side of the arguement.

He said last year he was going to wait until the end of this season. But, for the sake of forums, we'll continue to doubt him!

I am not doubting him, as a matter of fact, in every post I've ever made about him it is quite the opposite. I also previously acknowledged to you about the CBA, so no need to bring it up again. Of course we knew he was going to be a star, but the more top notch performances he puts in the bigger the bidding war becomes. Quite obviously I don't think we need him to prove himself. The problem here is that it creates more pressure by not signing (debunking the statement about focusing on the season) and therefore noone can understand why he doesn't sign to end the pressure. Now, if the CBA is out of the equation, then it really only leaves two reasonable explanations. He intends to leave, or he wants to prove his worth/raise his value. I, as I have stated before, take him on his word that he (incl his manager, family and anyone involved with him) have not signed anything, therefore only leaving one reason I can fathom for not signing. And that is that he wants to assure himself and any bidding parties of his worth to their organisation.

The rumours have been strong for some time that he has signed with GWS ... The evidence is mounting for Scully leaving.

So rumours repeated enough times become "mounting evidence"?

We have no concrete evidence whatsoever that he is going to GWS.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
