The Tom Scully Saga

Recommended Posts

If I'm a player in the last year of a contract, correct me if I'm wrong, but would I not want to try to get a new long term contract locked in as soon as possible?

He already knows he is going to command big money, and his value is high.

What happens if he goes out on Monday, and injures his leg in a similar manner to say Trent Hentschel resulting in a long term question mark over his ability to come back from that injury?

Is holding out until the end of the season then a smart ploy by him and his management?

Seems to me to be a pretty big risk to take, unless they already have a contingency plan in place.

I am not doubting him, as a matter of fact, in every post I've ever made about him it is quite the opposite. I also previously acknowledged to you about the CBA, so no need to bring it up again. Of course we knew he was going to be a star, but the more top notch performances he puts in the bigger the bidding war becomes. Quite obviously I don't think we need him to prove himself. The problem here is that it creates more pressure by not signing (debunking the statement about focusing on the season) and therefore noone can understand why he doesn't sign to end the pressure. Now, if the CBA is out of the equation, then it really only leaves two reasonable explanations. He intends to leave, or he wants to prove his worth/raise his value. I, as I have stated before, take him on his word that he (incl his manager, family and anyone involved with him) have not signed anything, therefore only leaving one reason I can fathom for not signing. And that is that he wants to assure himself and any bidding parties of his worth to their organisation.

Calm down Kento, I'm on your side in this arguement, and I too take him on his word.

But, I don't think it is down to just 2 reasonable explanations. There could be a number of different thoughts going through his head;

* Wants/intends to leave

* Wants to produce on field to push his value up

* Just wants to wait until the end of the season, as he clearly explained, with no hidden agenda

* Is not sure if he wants to stay at Melbourne for off-field reasons, but is giving them this season to get our sh!t sorted behind the scenes

There could be otehr reasons that we don't know about. My money is on the 3rd point, but like everyone else in here, that's based on nothing.

The other question I'll raise for general discussion, what contract/deal should the MFC offer as a maximum? I think something along the lines of a 2 year deal worth $800k, plus, I'd throw in a draft of his next cotnract after this 2 year deal, showing that if he can get to a certain level over the next 2 seasons, then his next contract will look something like 4 years and $2.5m-$3m.

All is good - I have worked out a formula that proves decisively if he is going or staying. I hope this now clears everything up

TS = Tom Scully

SHF% = stay home factor percentage

CO = counter offer

x$ = the acceptable differential

RISI% = rumour, innuendo, scuttlebutt inflation %

GGWSO = Ginormous Greater Western Sydney Offer

TS x SHF% x CO + x$

______________________

TS x RISI% x GGWSO ($4M/5Y)

Can we talk about his on field performances for a moment instead.

I am curious if others think that he and trenners are complimentary in their styles.

Trenners a hard ball winner with scully having the ability to make space and run (and run and run) a la Judd.

Thoughts?

I tried to hijack this thread without sucess.

Now we are on the loop, I think I softly said this before but now to be absolutely clear, there is no evidence to support a suggestion he is being untruthful and before you indulge your own paranoid desires think about his reputation. Its bad enough the press are trying to paint him in that light, supporters should be taking him at his word.

He has only shown signs he is a straightforward decent and hardworking team player.

Just out of curiousity, does anyone know what/if Gary Ablett made any statements to the press suggesting he was going to remain a Cat at the beginning/during or end of the season?

And could we juxtapose those statements with his coach questioning his loyalty, please?

I can understnad why Gary mislead.

I don't think all people are cut from the same cloth, or that different circumstances will entail the same conclusion.

Tom seems like an honest young man who wants to play footy - I believe him when he says that he hasn't signed anything and that he wants to be apart of our future.

And yes, we are in a loop...

I recognise that tree...

"Trengove is confident that good friend Tom Scully will be alongside him for the journey despite rumours he is in the sights of Greater Western Sydney."

"As the whole wider community knows, he's a great player and he really has an influence as we saw on the weekend's game. I'm confident he'll stay on at the Dees and be here another 13 years or however long he plays for. Obviously it's a matter for him and his manager but I'm sure it will be figured out in due course," Trengove said.

Can we repeat that often enough as "mounting evidence"?

If you read the last bit backwards quickly it actually says the following "ereh erutuf eht fo trap eb ot tnaw I" Notice that "part" becomes "trap"....make of it what you will but I found it very interesting.

This team is going to the top, weather Scully stay's or goes. It's his choice, money or success. If nathan Buckly stay at brisbane or Gary Abblet snr stay at Hawthorne, the only difference would be that they would be premiership players.

With hindsight we can all make the right choices....

Wake me up when this gets to 500 its like those old Jack Watts threads...

Heat and no light.

Robbie - you are now on the quotes whiteboard at work.

Heat and no light - just love it.

That rates right up there with

"payback is double" and

"I hear your problems but sympathy is on backorder"

Joss Whedon is my master.

Some Whedonites on here just squealed when they read that.

Nerds.

Firefly was so beautiful...and it makes me sad just thinking about what might have been.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

    They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

    Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

    With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
