WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY

Relax guys. He is coming thru to the second round. A deal has been orchestrated. Caddy to dees for pick 4

and you found this out at midnight ? when did caddy change his mind ?

Wow. What a write up by Micky O loughlin. Viney is going to be a superstar. I'm excited.

Read the article ladies and gentlemen.

Enjoy

...Adding to the appeal, O'Loughlin lauded Viney as one of the most outstanding young leaders and most professional to come through the system.

"He is an unbelievable kid," he said. "He might put a few noses out of joint because he expects a lot from himself and from others, but so be it because he is just a quality individual."

and that right there, to me is the reason why Viney is our number 1 priority, at whatever number. That is the culture changing aspect of his personality right there. He is the kind of guy that if you were professional and got the job done- he'd love you. If you were a clown he'd want to bury you.

This is a prototype of the Neeld player. And tomorrow is just another step in the process of him putting on a dees jumper and it is about the only thing that's kept me going over the last year or so, so it's fair to say that I can't wait for all this to be over and him to be on the list and showing our men how it's done.

It's a stupid deal and we should be ashamed if we stoop that low for such a marginal advantage. I won't believe we would do it.

It's a deal involving a player or a later pick, but if they want 4 for Caddy I would dob them in for draft tampering myself! Pricks!

I find it funny though that everyone thought GC were going to be nice about this a few weeks ago and noone thought they would bid.

I could stomach Harley Bennell for pick 4.

I think everyone would!

This is what would happen:

GC and GWS don't nominate Daniher or Viney, and then we nominate Daniher. Essendon then takes him with Pick 10ish.

It's very unlikely that GWS and GC won't nominate Daniher.

The process is done, not by kid, but by pick: GWS can reel off all the kids they want to with Pick 1 if the club with the rights decides to take them:

GWS: Daniher!

Ess: Pick 11!

GWS: Viney!

Melb: Pick 3!

GWS: McDonald!

NM: Pick 15!

etc.

I think GWS can only nominate one F/S per round. Happy to be corrected but thunking I read that somewhere.

As I understand teams can nominate more than once following a rule change this year.

As I understand teams can nominate more than once following a rule change this year.

My understanding is they get a bid. If unsuccessful that bid can't be used again.

This is an attempt to thwart ambit bidding.

I think the MFC slipped up. In an article regarding Wellingham and Dawes trade they said that they wanted at least 1 live pick out of 3 & 4.

This is them saying "We will use pick 3 on Viney regardless but if we do , we wont trade for Wellingham and Dawes"

But did the MFC actually say that, or did the journalist say that. I am pretty sure it was the latter.

Lol I'd much rather just take Jack at 3 if it were to come to that.

Emma Quayle tweeting that GC will NOT bid on Jack.

Wasn't it Quayle who was certain they would bid a couple of days ago? Something must have happened... a deal perhaps?

Cale Morton looked great at similar levels.

Wash your mouth out, using Morton and Viney in the same sentence!

Ha, could not get 2 more different styled players.

Who looked better when they were 18?

Garry Ablett Junior or Viney?

Just for the record guys & girls: -

Emma Quayle ‏@emmasq Melbourne fans I believe your wildest dreams are about to come true. Gold Coast won't bid No. 2 for Viney

I have a feeling a fringe player will be heading up to GC for not much today.

10 minutes

no premature ejaculations please

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.
