To be honest I think the new system of f/s is a good one and is quite fair.

The thing that's bad about it and isn't fair is how the AFL is implementing it. They seem to like to change rules on the fly without properly bringing it in slowly. Last year clubs were picking up greats for 3rd rounders, now we are going to have to potentially pay overs by a few picks for a F/S.

Within a 1 year turn around that's quite a drastic change, the AFL needs to learn the term 'phasing' and implement this slowly. An appropriate way would have been to have a few years of clubs having to pay at the highest 2nd round picks or so. Or each year gradually lower the minimum pick # that a club would need to pay for a F/S. Not change it so one year your paying a pick in the 40s to the next year you are paying a pick in the top 3.

I hope we pick up Viney but I am quite sick to death of the way the AFL try to implement rule changes on the fly and so abruptly so often. I am glad the AFL arn't politicians as if they were one day we would be allowed to drink, smoke, take drugs in public, then the next day we would be looking at the death penalty for it. Whats the point of the integrity officer if they cant even look at the integrity of themselves?

This was changed years ago, not last year.

The Bulldogs got Ayce Cordy for more than they wanted a few years ago.

We are just hamstrung because we didn't think we would be this crap and Jack this good.

Here's my prediction:

Yeah, that's where my head is at. Very hopeful that if we flag our interest in the MD they won't make a play for Viney.

Viney in the second round or you can have him and he will only sign a 2 year contract.

Considering GWS already have Callan Ward, Toby Greene, Dom Tyson, Taylor Adams, Dylan Shiel, Stephen Coniglio, MoneyBags, and now Whitfield with Hoskin Elliot, Treloar and Sumner on the outside....how many more mids do you want in just 2 drafts, that can play through the guts, before you starting paying attention to the ruck department??? And the KPP department?? They have Patton, and Phil Davis, with Jeremy Cameron coming through. That's it..

If I was Silvagni, Brodie Grundy would be at the top of my list after Whitfield. If they bid on VIney, it will be purely out of spite, and I think we should call their bluff and let them live with the consequences of having a team full of inside midfielders.

Personally, if we have to pick up Viney for a 1st round draft pick say pick 4 ish.. its not worth getting him at all.

I think he has potential to be a superstar but there are so many players that are just like him, especially because

this years draft is superdraft and i think that there could be 3 or 4 "vineys" and maybe even better than him.

For a second round pick it would be unbelievable to get Viney and 2 other picks at 3 and 4

This year's draft was previously overhyped and people are starting to realise it's not a superdraft and not to dissimilar to drafts of recent years.

Also your point on 3 or 4 other viney's is ludicrous, I would dare to say there is not one player in the draft similar to the way he plays and if there is they are certainly not up to his standard.

Viney would be step 1 to changing the lackadaisical culture amongst many of the players.

I completely disagree. I am not sure if you have watched the TAC cup or not but Nathan Hvorat as an example shows more class than Viney and is very similar in the way they play just way more polished.

Viney is NOT in the top 5 players in this draft

Watched him in the national champs, and although effective at that level he won't have anywhere the AFL career of viney. He's a tiny bloke even in comparison to Viney and certainly doesn't have the stocky build of Jack. Plus Viney will bring along intangibles that many don't possess.

Although he may not be top 5 in terms of his skills set, his work ethic and hunger for the contest will spread through the playing group like wildfire which makes him deserving of a number 4 pick

Melbourne WILL NOT pick up Viney with pick 4.

It has been categorically said

Let them bid, Viney is a good little player, but at 178 cms, I'd risk the bluff.

I'd rate him around 6-7, so I'd play the draft as it is.

Plus, I get the feeling that sides will warm to Toumpas as the draft gets closer.

Regardless, I wouldn't take Viney at 3 anyway.

Hogan for pick 3 I could live with, not because he is worth a pick 3 -

but because what we lose there, we win getting Jack in the 20s and Hogan wouldnt be too far off 3-7 mark anyway.

I hope GC are having a dip at Martin, Sheedz would be open to doing deals so he could have 1,2,3 in the draft.

That far outweighs GWS gaining a spot for bidding on Viney.

They might play it smart here, I sure hope so. GC would be mad not to bid on Martin aswell I think.

This is getting very tedious.

Just bring it on and some will be proven right, and some wrong!!

Give me evidence that a member of the football department said they will categorically not take viney at 3

I will save you the trouble and tell you there won't be any.

It's about 3 months till the draft so they wouldn't be dead set on their rankings yet.

I thought viney could be picked up with 3 if gc or GWS bid and we want him with our first round. Otherwise we leave him to GWS or gc OR he comes with our second round pick?

On the back of that we can categorically state we will NOT use pick 4 on viney. (right?)

Im sorry but the person that said that it hasnt been said, should probably go and listen to Mark Neeld talk before he goes on these forums and makes comments. You're an absolute shmuck for trying to contradict people when you dont have any idea what you are talking about.

Settle down, n00b. Before you start belittling people you should back up your statement with some proof. I do not remember anybody from the club categorically saying that we will or won't use our first pick on Viney and I have been paying attention. I was told by someone at the club this week that we may not actually be getting him.

Demons may trade early pick

Provide some evidence you clown

I'm more than happy to be proven wrong, but even if he has said it I'm sure we can take it with a grain of salt due to the circumstances and would not be revealing of his true sentiments

"we may not be prepared to use a high up first round pick on Viney" Mark Neeld.

this is off the age.

The age also goes on to say.

The demons were not adamant that Viney would be worth the high first round pick and that by some recruiters Viney is a second half of first round pick.

So you who called me a n00b can be quite because you have no idea what you are talking about. We both different links so don't just attack me.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
