Interesting that he is out of contract at season end and clubs are looking at him.Not sure if he would be a GWS target but I think he is a good player and the knee injury last year hs out him back a bit.

But interesting that Brad Gotch had a bit of a go at him about his motivation. I thnk he is a better player than Jetta or maybe even Bennell and maybe annoyed they are getting chosen ahead of him.

If he doesn't have motivation then he will never amount to anything.....The MFC must be tough on this, otherwise we will always lose against Nought Melbourne.

Nothing article, on a nothing issue.

The club will still be desperate to hold onto him.

He's working on some deficiencies in his game at Casey.

His overall form is irrelevant, they will only be looking at the aspects deemed unacceptable - most likely his hardness, tackling, accountability.

How many touches he garners will be ignored in judging his performance.

If we do lose him, we'd want to get something bloody good in return.

Absolute minimum a top 10 draft pick.

He's always been the type that will take a long time to develop, and we've done most of the work.

To say he has no motivation is purely ignorant.

He may be motivated to do the wrong things; this can be easily changed in time.

It's potentially what some would incorrectly refer to as a 'poor culture'.

It would be a shame to lose him. i betya he be playing one's at collingwood.

Has a bit of a stock market feel to it doesn't it - we bought high and would be selling low if we sold right now. There's a heap of upside though, so my strategy would be to hold on as the potential dividend/payoff later far outweighs the salvage value we'd get now.

lol... ignorant ??? The coach is ignorant ?? thats laughable. I reckon Gotch might have a slightly better view on things than you Artie !! Dont you think ?

Cale got dropped fromn teh seniors for lack of application...he then sooks away in the magoos and his coach takes him to task.. Well done Gotch.

In this instance its all Cales own doing.

MFc needs to be careful it doesnt become a Passenger train instead of a freight one delivering the goods !!

Sometimes in trading its wiser to work in the moment, cut your loss and reinvest into a better dividend.

would our poor culture be part of his problem?

not hard enough?

Indeed it is, I don't think this is one of those situations though as I'm still quite comfortable with the dividend this investment will pay. But I suppose if everybody on the stock market agreed there wouldn't be much of a market would there! :)

need to be tough on these kids with our ruthless, hardness standards....maybe he and watts got it a bit soft early

would like to keep morton tho due to his size n skills, just needs a stronger mind that doesnt always go to the outside of packs to pick up cheap possies....

we should judge morton on contested possies, not 30 outside possies. he is startin to get bagged like stanton on here

Back to cale...it will become increasingly competitve for midfiled roles at Melbourne ( of course they all have to be able to be available, or stand up and run...unlike the present ) Cale is an outside player...he has company. We actually need a bit more in and under types who get their own pill. Dont be surprised at all if we listen to suitors... Be stupid not to .

Gotch never said he had "no motivation."

Another poster carelessly alluded to it, although I'm sure he'll begin ducking & weaving shortly.

It was a poor choice of words on his behalf.

Cale is being taken to task by the reserves coach for not being motivated to perform certain tasks within the game.

So Gotch should, and that is why Cale is there.

I think Cale is a victim of our very poor list when he was drafted, because he was able to get a game concentrating solely on the the "easy" aspects of the game.

The lack of leadership also didn't help.

In addition, we are working towards changing that.

It takes a bit of work, but it's not something out of the ordinary with a developing list.

He definitely has the talent, he has definite motivation, he just needs to be guided to do the "hard" things.

They are now being demanded of him.

This stint in the VFL is a good thing.

It's just something he would have gone through last year, if not for a series of injuries.

That may well be so, but now is the time to wake up and see the bigger world.

Time to deliver Cale,he has had 3-4 years.

# Well my cousin told me that Scott Clayton was seen in the crowd watching casey. I thought that interesting he watch a game between Casey and Essendon/ Bendigo.

To me If Cale can't improve his lousy Intensity and hunger for the contested ball, he doesn't have a future anywhere. He'll be recruited by others, but they'll expect the same things as we do.

He's reached the end of the easy road.

I think this is key. It is also the reason why I don't want to see Jack Watts playing loose in the back-line and flying above packs palming the ball to the boundary in marking contests.

IMHO, i do not believe Morton to be guaranteed a spot in our best 22/ starting 18 every week. He is soft, his kicking isn't as great as what we hoped it would be when we drafted him and he has very little impact on games. I would definitely see what other teams are willing to offer for him. The only thing he has in his favour is the new sub rule, as he can be quite versatile (if anything, it might have bumped up his trade value).

For those who believed that we have gotten rid of all the dead wood, quite clearly there is still some more to be wormed out. This year, given our injuries to key players, it will allow us to see who is needed and who is not as good as we thought. With the injuries we have got, plus our pretty mediocre start and with our next 4 rounds coming up, it would be a stretch to think that we will make finals (or even contend them) this year.

I do believe Scott Clayton has gone on record stating that he rated Morton the best of the draft in 2007.

Beautifull analogy. We've just unloaded the last passenger train after stopping many stations with no disembarkations & no intake..

Time to grow a Freight Train heart..

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
