Thanks for bringing that up WYL, I thought I dreamt it! Straight after the presser, Sheehan was convinced that Scully was staying, and even their little online video thingy they do he was sure of it. Then in a matter of hours, he was back on the "he's going" bandwagon. Weird chain of events!

Agree with this up to a point - as an MFC supporter 100% agree but when I put my dispassionate hat on, truth be told, players whose star is in the ascendancy - TS, Cam Bruce for many years, Aaron Davey at last contract negotiation - will have us over a barrel. However can you say to me sitting in Juniors chair that he didnt deserve another year and maybe we forced him into early retirement. We axe players every year - some feel hard done by. Dispassionately, all negotiations and player decisions are governed by demand and supply - there is a demand for TS and an oversupply of Simon Godfrey's. The negotiations go accordingly.

Playing hold'em ? As most players with currency can and do and again agreed. And whats the pot ? A stack of money against lots of reasons not to go. The key is simply the value TS places on the lots of reasons to stay against the value of the dollar offer to go. My logical reasoning for him to stay is that if the dollars and not miles apart ( and way too good to be true) then as a professional footballer would I want to move away from everything I have in Melbourne ( family, friends, hometown etc) for 3-5 years of development football ?

Im thinking the club will keep chipping away as Jimma is doing. Negotiation 101 - even though Velocity/TS has set the timetable I would still be gently pressuring him to come to the table sooner than later. Velocity has set the timetable but nothing to be lost by the MFC pulling the chair out from the table and inviting TDS/Velocity to sit and chat earlier than the timetable stated. It occurs to me as we mulder over things Scully thatthough we have our views , differing as they are as to the why and the hows of him staying and the shenangans of the process to date, theres somethng else, there would ( possibly ) be quite differing outcomes to compensation depeneding on his status come seasons end.

By this ..If he just goes ..then we are at the beck and call of the AFL as to compensation. Im aware of nothing in stone yet to describe that. If however he was in some way contracted to us but still wanted to chase the bright lights of Blacktown and the streets paved with gold then we'd be in an entirely diofferent position to bargain.

It now to me is as much about what we get as it is does he go.

Yes, this season has had its terribly disappointing moments but...

The ease with which Melbourne fans become pathetic, hand-wringers continues to astonish me.

We are not a big club, not at the moment. But you don't become a big club with the defeatist, pathetic attitude some on here show at the first sign of some gloom.

Success isn't linear and we coming from a ways back.

We will get to the summit. We might get there later rather than sooner, with different faces in different places, but we will get there.

For some of us who have been putting up with disappointment since 1964, "later rather than sooner' is hardly comforting. No, I don't want to listen to whinging, but I do want to let the club know how disappointed I am with the way things are progressing. From my point of view we're in the 47th year of a five year recovery plan. I could never be as passionate about another club as I am about the Dees but sometime, someone, somewhere has to say enough is enough and do some serious decision making. If Scully wants to go he's not worth keeping. Just like Ablett. Let him go and concentrate on building a culture around guys like james frawley who at least cares enough to be disappointed and tell the truth. For too long we've given spots to players whose interests begin and end with themselves. When did we see anybody apart from maybe Nathan Jones actually risk his body to make a statement against the Roos. Winning is not everything but I'm sick of copping the "your team's soft" comments from my mates. Let's harden up and demand better. If I hear one more player or coach say "we need to stick to team structures" I'll throw up. Are these the structures that turn 30 point leads into 40 point thrashings? Where is the structure for dealiing with the challenge of physical pressure from the opposition? Haven't seen it yet? This team plays like front runners and receivers. Sensational when not challenged - very poor when the pressure's on.

I've written to the club expressing my concerns and interestingly got no response. Why? No answers? Not good enough.
