Unbelievable that in 2011 we can have a game interstate not being shown live into Melbourne.

Channel 7 - 3pm. Disgrace. Do it properly, or dont do it at all.

Posted

It is a disgrace, with the internet and other live games going on to show an interstate game on delay is terrible. Would be great for the next tv deal if foxtel got rights to all games. They show it live and do a proper pre match. Worth the extra coin!

Hell no! I have no intention of getting foxtel.

That's a bloody joke.

60 minute delay, [censored] that, I can't even watch neutral games on that kind of delay without checking the score. Looks like I'll be watching a mediocre stream or following online.

Channel 7 are absolute dogs.

dur, this is the real crime in 7's broadcasting, not friday nights at the 'G.

why is this delayed? its not like better homes and gardens is on first. it is on because they can cut from the final siren straight to the news. AND IT WORKS AND PEOPLE WATCH IT. if you want to [censored] with them, change the bloody channel when the game ends and dont watch their news.

btw - it is an absolute disgrace. A.D. you have a lot to answer for - ross oakely wouldnt have stood for this crud.

I don't have a problem with a small delay. The broadcasters pour a lot of money into the sport, and if they think they are best served by a small delay that's fair enough.

It's not like they'll start the coverage by going live to the game as it is at 3PM - into the second quarter - like Chan 9 did with the World Cup.

The main reasoning is the extra minutes of ad breaks and channel 7's ability to run the game into the primetime news at 6. The only thing that will change this is if the game actually starts at 3 (similar to the debate of live Friday night footy... live games but games that start later so that both the AFL and broadcaster are appeased)

I'm OK with it. It means its on. Thats something. I'd rather it on delay than on Fox... It means I can watch it & record it for later, to study.

You can't record FTA TV?

Being a Sunday afternoon game Channel 7 has to play thier mandatory Sunday Afternoon Elvis Presley movie...usually it's Blue Hawaii or It happened at the Worlds Fair..

I'll be in Perth for a wedding so whist working off the hangover i'll watch most of the Dees live then head to Subiaco to watch Freo and the Kangas...

Not a bad sunday coming up!

Spot on. CH 7 can play far more ads during a delayed (and stretched) Telecast.

If Ch 9 get the next broadcast right, they will probably do exactly the same on a sunday arvo.

That's my gripe too, Channel Ten manage to delay games on a Saturday but run them "as live". There was a game in Adelaide either last year or the year before which actually began at 2:40pm local time yet Seven manged to slip into delay during the coveage to run into the news. They did the same at Bathurst last year.

Is there anyone in NSW who can put channel 7 on some ustream channel for the match because I am pretty sure it's going live into Sydney.

Posted

There was also the game last year in Adelaide featuring the Blues that was a pretty long one (I think there was a stretcher).

7, for some reason, had the game on delay but ended up running about 2 minutes behind live because of how long the game went.

the worst thing about it is that they don't even broadcast the footy in HD (like Foxtel and One do)...

Basically everyone now owns these big beautiful LCD's and Plasma's and then we get a horrible grainy Standard Def footy game to watch on it.

It's an absolute joke, that should just simulcast it on one of their other 'HD' channels like TEN do.

Its 2011 FFS.

Frankly, I'd like to let my demon out on them.

Unfortunately because Fremantle are playing Sunday, the game won't be on television here at all. So if you're complaining about not getting it live, spare a thought for us. Seven show these matches sometimes, but the V8 Supercars will be on instead on Sunday.

The only way you could watch the game is by going to a pub that has a Satelite feed from interstate. The Western Demons supporter group are having a function in Yokine, whilst the Wembley Hotel has shown these matches in the past, and that's not all that far from Subi oval.

To Broadcast in HD costs more money...More Ads. The TV stations only make money during september. The Home and Away they only go close to Breaking even.

So as bad as it is Ch 7 will run ads to the max as much as they liked because the Footy cost them a lot.

The next Broadcast deal could be worse if it hits a $$ Billion. (That is a lot of 30 second spots)

They broadcast at 3-6 so it runs into the news so people stay tuned and also so they can have more ads between the goals and cut down on excess coverage.

My main gripe with channel 7 is their terrible coverage, I'd not care so much about delays if their coverage was actually good.

Fair call.

Actually , I think it would be more effective to run a campaign not to buy products advertised on Channel 7 during delayed broadcasts. I have a suspicion similar campaigns have worked elsewhere - but can anyone help with evidence to support that statement?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
