get some match fitness @ Casey, then he will be back to normal.

Totally agree, just needs a run to get back in the swing of things

Why Watts is giving you little!

I know, it appears that way, But he looks to me now everweek that he is trying to get involved and is contesting. I've backed a number of players over the years when I coulkd see the footballer within. Jamar being one, Petterd another, Martin, Garland, and to me, watts looks ready to start stretching his comfort zone.. He looks like he wants to start puuting in. I think he needs this chance against the younger side.

Too the contrary of some, I think bennell is disappointing, (not doing enough) as is Dunn, who is becoming patchy, and has gone backwards in his attack at the ball, this year. I think Petterd and McDonald would gives us more 'HEART' muscle,,, when it counts.

Make those a little, mello, work harder.

I agree. Watts is battling with confidence. But his ability is there for all to see. At some point it will click for him and he will be a champion. But I don't see it with Morton. He always looks totally out of his depth and he doesn't demonstrate the skill Watts has (some of Watts's field kicks are just beautiful).

Morton has started his career very similar to how Goddard did. He has all the same tools. Saints were calling for goddards head for years. Look how he turned out! He's almost the forgotten man. Have faith. He will be a star.

Dumb, dumb, dumb decision to use him as a sub. He's come off an ordinary year & not played for 2 months. Obvious answer is give hima run at Casey just like they should have done with Frawley last week.

I don't reckon he was THAT bad. Got himself amongst it, which is more than can be said for Maric. How much can you expect from him for only 1.5 quarters?

Not sure his field kicking is beautiful. He only had about 4 today. A couple of chips that went 15 metres and then that one before half time where cost us a shot on goal. Morton is far ahead of Watts at this stage but both need to harden up and start contributing, i feel Morton will sooner than later.

Yes, sorry, I wasn't talking about today's effort with Watts. I think in general he's shown a lot more than Morton. Then again, people are right, Morton was damned a bit in being made the sub without match fitness.

morton did look bigger in the chest today, not so much the arms though, which i was pretty happy with, but he definately needs game time, and a few games at casey would probably do some good for him.

To me, it appears more like work rate/intensity, rather than ability.. He just needs to be More URGENT! More desperate. Drop him, and make him fear for his spot in the team. It may work, but something has to be tried. He has the intensity of Brent Grgic, at the start.

We are giving games to players who aren't earning them, via heart an courage. We are IMO, encouraging softness.

Yep, think you may have a very good point there. There's something a bit soft in the team and maybe it is that not everyone is being picked on form.

Leave him in. He was rusty and poor today but this won't last long. Terrible decision to have him as our sub today. This bloke is a ball carrier and can actually hit a target inside our 50.

Frawley today 1st quarter was horrible but then the 2010 Chip appeared. Morton might also be rusty again at the start next week, but he will run into form.

Excellent observation Mad Melbourne. A few games at Casey should increase the size of his arms considerably. May even tone up his glutes. I'll expect a full report from you.

Morton and Watts will both develop into fine players given the right guidance, time and patience. My concern is the MFC capable of providing any of these. Playing Morton as a sub today was a stupid descion that didn't do the kid any favors. Watts was ok in his intensity today and that is a step foward as far as I'm concerned, he seemed to find space regularly and was not used, of more concern was Bennells game.

Not a brilliant call to bring him back cold and make him a sub. Would have been better having a run for Casey IMO. Looking forward to when he's had more of a run.

Posted

This kid has class. Like Chip last week he is very rusty. It wasn't a great decision to have him as a sub, if anything he should have started with the view to being subbed off later in the game.

We are not building for the premiership or top 4 this year. And finals would be stretching it a bit. We ARE STILL BUILDING this year to develop a team capable in the FUTURE, 2012-13 and beyond. Morton is a part of that and like many, just needs to be given game continuity.

I fear for many around here who have set there expectations way too high. Get ready for more heartache this season people.

How Morton got a game over Petterd I'll never know. At one point he got the ball on the flank, Trengove was clear on his outside and calling for it, but he chose to turn inboard, fluffed it, turnover, and then Brisbane swept it away for a goal. This was at a critical stage in the last quarter when we could have finished them but instead it gave them a big sniff. I was furious. It reminded me so much of Bruce and his selfish shots on goal which wasted team opportunities. Let him find some touch at Casey. We were crying out for some of Petterd's creativity up forward today. LJ ouldn't do it all alone.

Spot on.

Casey is for finding form and fitness, not being a sub. What happens if someone gets injured early and an underdone player plays for most of the game? Imagine another 60 minutes of that Morton "magic" from today...

Maric did more last week than Morton did today.

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. When he’s on song, he’s unstoppable but he did blot his copybook with a three week suspension in the final round.
