  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Sadly true, either talent and no ticker or plenty of ticker but low ability

Never seem to crack one with both ticker and ability.

C&B inadvertently alluded to the answer.

The rebuild has allowed us to get those players.

You just need to have the patience for them to grow up.

Can you give me a clue beyond Scully?

So far I have not seen any down and dirty recruits.

lots of skilful nice boys but no mongrels yet.

Perhaps Frawley! but he plays a bit far back.

By the way I am not blessed with unlimited time for too much patience.

Could it please be the next 3-4 years

I doubt you would have given Frawley's name before 2009.

And there is the theme I keep coming back to - for these kids to show it in an AFL game they need time.

Like a broken bloody record...

The season can't start soon enough!

Too right! Can't believe I come home from work every night to read the same crap, post after post.

As much as I want to read about the Dees and peoples thoughts on the Dees, I've had it, you guys are hurting my head.

Lets just argue for 4 months whether or not we are going to be [censored] again this year. How Riveting...

I'm taking a brake from these threads until after the Sydney game, Rd 1. Aaaww god, heaven forbid we lose I'll have to stay away a little longer.

I'd like to add my 2 cents worth to this post, as my first post, so G'Day everyone. First and foremost I need to stress that personally I think we will improve this year, and this terrible preseason will become a distant memory by rd 22. But I'd like to add a bit to a hypothetical debate, that I believe has a (tiny) bit of merit.

Firstly, all my footy loving, non demon following mates, are always asking me whether or not I think Baileys appointment was a good one. And my response is invariably "I just don't know yet, he's a nice bloke and seems to have a good manner and football mind, but I just don't know yet". Well I believe that he himself won't accept a lack of improvement this year, much less a backwards slide. And if this were to be the case I believe the club owes nothing to a man who fails to do his job, but does owe it to the supporters to get the best coach possible. I loathe MM nearly as much as I loathe his club, but if he were to coach my beloved club to a premiership, I'd nominate him for Australian Of The Year (tongue in cheek to the serious folks). The same must be said for Matthews, however I believe he would be less likely anyhow. Paul Roos on the other hand is a wonderful bloke, a brilliant coach and has the potential to make our players as great as our beloved club. Let's be clear here, I truly want to see our players perform on the field as players and off the field as humans. And I do think he offers the recipe for that.

The most important people at any footy club truly are the mebership holding, ticket buying, DD contributing, merch wearing, internet obsessing, news reading lovers of game and club. In a strong way players and coaches come second, because often they grew up barracking for a different club, and often will run along once established for better money or greater opportunity (which is their right). Therefore this means the ultimate loyalty lies in making sure the fans are getting their endless moneys worth. And if this means making a decision that may seem harsh but is based on the best interests of club and fans, then I say so be it. It is nice to be sentimental, but I for one have never seen a premiership win, and would one day like to, so can forgive them sentimentality.

I can't wait for this season, will get down to Melbourne for as many games as possible, will hoot and holler every goal and harrass and howl every umpiring decision that my completely unbiased eyes see. And at the end of it all, I'll sit down and say "what a great season, bring on 2012".

So from what you have said above..The Team shall improve this year, but you are far from sold on Dean Bailey as a coach. it reads a little counter productive to me.

Maybe a little like this song....

Not sitting on the fence at all. Quite the opposite actually. For starters, I never said I was "far from sold" as you claim, just that I am not yet sure. There's quite a difference! Secondly, I made it clear that I do think we will improve, but wanted to add my 2 cents as to what "I" (not you, just my opinion) think should be of major consideration should all hell break loose. I also thought that our preseason would be better than it was, but hey, I was wrong there wasn't I. The reason I decided to make my first post on this topic is because I felt I had a point of view to add which no one else brought up. There is no point adding nothing to the topic, you may as well have said nothing at all. At least read the comment properly before criticising.

You mentioned 3 possible replacement coaches for 2012, So how does that fit in with the team improving this year.

I take no notice of pre season form, as we have absolutely no idea what the FD instructions to the players are.

In my reply to you, I said "should all hell break loose" (we take a backward step not forwards). In my original post I said that I believe Dean himself would not accept a lack of improvement, much less a backwards slide, before moving into talk of other coaches. I mentioned those coaches, because they are widely regarded as three of the premier coaches in the league, and would give us an extremely viable alternative "should all hell break loose" this year. I think that makes it pretty clear as to how it fits in with improvement or dreaded lack thereof this year.

Correct, what i want to know is...Do you think Dean Bailey has the strength to push the team forward??

By mentioning the 3 other coaches i think you have your doubts.

I was pretty well convinced after last season. The teams we beat weren't the best out there, but there were a number of close results that could have easily gone the other way, making for an even more successful year. And I don't place faith in the preseason. As you said, who knows what the FD has in mind. That said, it has still planted a seed of doubt in my mind. I am not sitting on the fence, and I do have my doubts, but I feel he has done enough for me to reserve my judgement. Regardless of whether I think he has it or not, the other issue is that I believe the club will extend his contract anyway, except in the case of the season becoming an absolute disaster. That is actually the reason for me writing in the first place, because I think they will be looking to give him another chance, where they need to make sure they have the man they need to take our boys, and us, to a flag.

Fair enough. My slant on all this is that i think DB is actually enjoying this entire rebuild from the bottom up. What he inherited in 2008 was a total shambles and he knew that.

We are all walking into unchartered waters from this year onwards so i think that needs to be remembered.

Bailey will know exactly where he stands, but what was said at the AGM is Paramount. We all must improve. 2011 is a big year in the life of the MFC.

The club must make the jump. Our excuses of the last 3 years have been used up.

The emphasis on winning Quarters and being competitive is even stronger this year, even if it drives some supporters mad.

Round 17 and QB last year are benchmarks that must now be seen more as "the way the team plays"

Bailey's job is to enforce that, whatever way he can.

Didn't you seem him go in for the ball against Sandilands?

Why Robbief? What's your point? I'm not having a go, I'm too emotional after watching today's tragi-comedy that I watched....

Almost like Pagliacci....

Why do you want to murder your wife?

The reason is the opening poster got slammed for his thoughts and I guess a few on here might want to rethink how they respond in future.

I don't think we should sack the coach but it wouldn't surprise me if we were 1 and 3 at the end of the fourth. Our form(?) over the preseason has been appalling and you can gloss it over any way you want but we have played terrible football.

We got thrashed by Brisbane at Princess Park and the score line flattered us, their players were better than ours on every line and their desire for the ball was greater; anyone putting the third round match against them as a win should think again. Sydney will beat us easily as will Hawthorn but we may beat the Gold Coast, I wouldn't put my house on it though.

We have a lot of improvement to make if we are going to be competitive this year, as I said earlier this is starting to look like 2007 all over again. We have the same team as last year with a couple of Veterans gone and a lot of the young players having interrupted starts to the year. Where's the improvement coming from?

even at the start of the year you were pessimist. :)

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
