'I don't have a problem if there is perceived to be a clash in jumpers, as determined at the end of the day by the afl, that the away team wear a clash strip. I do prefer my team's traditional jumper. The clash strip of the away team musn't still clash with the home team, otherwise it is pointless. In the case of melbourne v essendon, Essendon need to provide a clash strip that does not clash with the traditional strip of melbourne and wear it when they are the away team. It is not just to force melbourne, who have developed an appropriate alternative, to wear that in a home game. Or when melbourne is the away team for them to wear the clash jumper, but let essendon wear their traditional jumper when they are the away team because the clash strip still clashes. that is fair and logical.'

Although I prefer the look of the traditional jumper, I feel it is much more practical to have clash jumpers when they are really required. For example, in games against clubs such as Essendon it makes it easier for the players to play the game without having to constantly worry about making a blunder. The outcome of a match should not be determined by a simple mistake.

Maybe the old eyes are truly starffed, but I found it difficult, at times, to distinguish the jumpers on Saturday.

I can think of no reason, other than dubious "marketing" why both sides could not have worn their "traditional" jumpers

Both Teams had white in there jumper, and it was a sunny day...Well one end was!!!

Yeah, I agree. The clash jumper for last week brought us closer to the saints jumper. Made no sense whatsoever.

Agreed, I thought the clash jumper actually created the clash and the white shorts all the more so

understanding the afl rules after the trengove episode is a bewildering exercise

Melbourne should have worn our traditional strip with dark shorts, despite being the away team.

St Kilda should have worn their traditional strip with white shorts, despite being the home team.

The fact we wore a 'clash' strip that introduced white into our jumped was pretty ridiculous.

Foolish decision to wear the clash jumper last week, but I still had no problem telling the teams apart.

I also adore this clash strip and hope we keep it.

I have no reason why I expected otherwise but I was quite taken aback when they came out in the "away' strip.. Surely that COMPOUNDED any perceived clash..

I don't see why we don't have a 3rd mostly red strip. I know that Schwab didn't see the point in it. But we needed it on the weekend.

I don't really give a damn about clash strips or not though. I would prefer us to wear our traditional top, but as long as I get to see us play and as long as there is no clash I don't care.

I struggled last week a little. Normally we have no white on our guernsey, but put the clash on to play the saints and all of a sudden both have white on them, making it much harder to distinguish between the two. And I noticed a couple occasions where players from both teams seemed to PASS to an opponent, making me wonder whether even the players were a little confused.

For Melbourne;

- Always love the red and the blue, but....

- Don't mind the white-heavy ones. I loved last year's clash strip (the one Jurrah took MotY in in case anyone doesn't know what it looks like) and something like that would be fine. Personally I am not a fan of the current strip though.

For the general AFL;

- A necessity in many situations. See Kangaroos-Collingwood, Melbourne-Carlton, Melbourne-Port, Melbourne-Freo, Hawthorn-Adelaide.

- Should be mandatory for clubs to have a second strip.

- Third strip should only be needed in situations where there is a clash even if the club does the opposite. See the Carlton jersey - the clash is generally the direct opposite to the major jersey colour (so white for the Blues) but because of the St Kilda jumper being predominantly white they went for a pale blue in order to clearly ID their players. (What the Dees should have done btw)

For the Filth;

- Their clash should be pink and puce and come with little fairy wings.

I have never had a problem over many moons when we have worn our traditional jumper against Essendon or ANY ONE ELSE. Essendon, Big Red Sash on black jumper, red and black socks, Melb. Big red yoke on a navy blue jumper, bright red socks. Home team wearing black or blue shorts away team white. In the bad old days we could even distinguish between Collingwood and North Melbourne on the BLACK and WHITE TV screen. We simply looked for the white or black shorts. Got a bit harder when playing on a wet and muddy MCG though. Also players have faces too.Like you 'Iv'a I thought that our so called 'clash' jumper the other day was very similar to St Kilda. There was confusion now and then.

I was expecting to have trouble on saturday with the clash when I saw us come out in white but was suprised that from level 3 I could easily tell the teams apart. Watching the replay though was a bit harder so I'd imagine at ground level was a bit harder.

Can't wait to see how silly Carlton looks against us wearing their Sturt guernseys. I thought their white one was rather classy.

I don't understand why more clubs don't do a Carlton. There strip is what some would say "God Awful". But it doesn't clash with anything in the league, it's a clear contrast to anything else either at the game or on tv, and apparently they sell more of them that they can make at the moment. You can make money from something different. Why not have something less traditional? Lets make some money

I think it is a viable option? Unless it brings back far too many bad memories?

There was general consensus amongst this board and elsewhere that 'that' jumper should neve NEVER be worn by a competing Melbourne team ever ...ever ...again !!

I don't like clash jumpers. There's no need for them as long as one team wears white shorts and one wears black. Socks can also be significantly different if that is going to be an issue otherwise leave the jumpers as is.

I don't like our white (surrender) jumper. Have we ever won when we've worn it? Probably but not too often I suspect even allowing for our poor recent Win Loss record. I wonder whether Brad Green would have proudly grabbed that jumper during the Crows game if he was wearing that white abomination!

I'm being flippant but whenever a Melbourne player gets to run out onto a footy ground, I don't care if he is wearing pink and green, there is no excuses for lack of commitment.

Personally, clash strips aren't necessary. They increase marketing opportunites and for some stupid reason make the AFL happy but achieve little else. But "they" say we have to have one so I reckon the one we have will do fine.

I really like the design and layout of our clash strip, with the exception that it makes the blood-red look pink. It is the best clash strip we have had and I emailed the club earlier this year when it was first released and congratulated them.

But I cannot understand how anyone would see it as being necessary against the Saints. No clash exists between the two traditional strips of Dees and Saints.
