Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

You could however sign a contract with contingencies allowing for an increase.

Then you would have to do that for everyone, and I would prefer to use the increase in the cap for some wriggle room to keep our stars (the club are apparently keen to get a star when FA kicks in, but I don't think it's required).

Allow me to be the next to join the ‘I have a source’ group.

In thousands of posts on here, ‘ology and bigfooty I have never claimed such a thing.

I am going on 3rd hand info but each source is as solid as can be, going right to the top levels of the club. It is impossible to imagine anyone is having a lend of anyone. Just not the types.

Scully hasn’t spoken to GWS and they are very confident he will stay at Melbourne.

There seems to be a lot of chatter headed that way now.

Look, if Sheedy 'forces' us to pay Scully $800k he's won hasn't he?

If he get's Scully he's won as well. It's not his money after all but part of the AFL's $100m.

He has an incentive to stir things up and he's doing it. After 1215 posts there's not much more to say is there....

Baravo! Sheedy and Eddie are just worried about melbourne being the biggest threat to them doing well. How many other teams in the comp have great players that could be poached? What about North's players? What about Hawthorn? What about the Dogs, aints, Collingwood, Eagles, Freo? ....... Why Melbourne? fear.

What's the betting at now? $2.60 that he'll stay I think. I think that if it gets out to $3 I will plonk down $500 on it.

Just writing that post infuriated me even more.

Facts are... Scully is strategizing to earn the greatest amount of dollars possible. He knows he'll get a rediculous contract now, but is waiting till August to maximise it an extra 50k, or an extra 100k whatever it is.

Sure some people might say- 'that's reasonable, any person would want to maximise their earnings, why should Scully be any different.' And that argument is a reasonable one.

HOWEVER , the fact is that we will NOT will a premiership if every one of our young stars demands to suck every last dollar possible out of our club. Premiership sides of the past have been able to field their outstanding teams because some great players weren't earning every last dollar.

Corey Enright will still finish his career a rich man, but he could have gone to essendon, been even richer, and not won his 2 premierships. Yet Scully will probably earn more money in 2012 as a 20 year old up-n-comer, than Enright (a multiple All Australian and star player) has at any time throughout his career.

Scully (and his management's) attitude does not sit right with me one bit.

Are they the facts, or are they rumour and speculation??

The only "Facts" are that Scully has a contract with the MFC until October 31 2011.

Sylvinator would "like" Tom to sign a contract before that time so he can get some sleep this year.

Just enjoy this season Sylvinator, and support Tom loudly from the Grandstand, then Tom just might "want" to stay a demon.

If GWS has signed Scully, Sheedy wouldn't come out and even speak about it. He would sit happily in content that he knew he was leaving. The reason Sheedy has even come out to talk about it is because they haven't got him. This is my opinion anyway. Sheedy is a strange old man though, so who knows.

Another person (Curry and Beer) has now got inside info. 95% of people who say they know something or have heard something legit have indicated it is likely he will stay. Surely of all those claims, at least some have some merit?

give the man the cupie doll!!

My thought are you could sign a heads of agreement binding the player to the club thwarting all the vultures whilst allowing scope for the particular parties. Everyones happy ( that matters..i.e screw the other clubs!!)

If the reason for the contract delay as being reported is that the manager wants to see what unfolds at year end regarding new TV deals, etc etc as a manager why would you lock in before you knew what the outcome was.

Are you suggesting that if there is an XX% increase then Tom get XX more - very messy way of handling the situation. All negotiations are a gamble so I am also more than guessing that Velocity are also banking on him improving his rating and his value this year not going backwards ( a gamble - second year blues ?).

Signing a heads of agreement with all sorts of riders in it based on what the AFL might do is a messy way to go. I do know that contracts have all sorts of incentives - B&F placings, goals kicked, number of games..etc etc but to try and factor in the AFL unknowns is not pretty.

The whole Scully saga is so far based on unfounded rumour and some oil poured on the fire by media performers with vested interest, such as McGuire and Sheedy. Yet you are making the above statements as if they are facts and casting aspersions on Scully's motives. For all we know, Scully himself may be doing nothing of the sort. These sort of statements make Scully look like a mercenary when the opposite is most likely true.

(On the other hand, what's wrong with maximising your earnings? That's the whole reason the doomsayers are speculating he'll go to GWS.)

I like a person who takes a position !

Woewoedin tried maximising his earnings , look what happened to him .

We need to keep Scully without being screwed to the wall .

Welcome to the wonderful world of keeping generational talent.

We're not used to this. Happened a little with Davey and Green but Scully, Trengove et al. are destined for bigger things. Clubs will target them.

We will pay them very well.

We might actually get value for money...

No, they could all be rubbish, developed from Chinese whispers about rumours developed from idle chatter.

And they were based on gossip founded on innuendo, emanating from unsubstantiated theories that came from left of centre snippets, that dribbled like tidbits, from the thoughtless mind of a meandering savant.

Poor Tom. Damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.

The thread has gone from "Tom is gone to GWS and he is nothing more than a mercenary who should play the season at Casey" to a slightly more optimistic yet just as deranged "He'll stay but he is only doing this to hold the club to ransom. He's a mercenary and he should think of the good of the club".

I'm convinced that some people will only be happy when he announces that he has signed a 20 year deal in return for all the water he can drink and some petrol money to get to the games.

Then again petrol is pretty expensive these days.

Where there is smoke, there is usually a meandering savant starting a brush fire.

It's funny though. So many on here gearing themselves for Tom to leave on nothing more than idle rumour.

Heh.

Yeah, it's changed from 'how can he leave for ridiculous money when we would give him over-market money?!' to 'I really hope the club doesn't succumb to paying over-market money!'

North Melbourne are screwed to the wall.

Our new facilities enable us to stay in player retention hunt with the advent of GC, GWS and Free Agency. If we were still at the Junction we'd be screwed. North have gone "California or bust" by choosing to stay in Melbourne rather than go to GC and having done that they have to be aggressive to make it work. They have done the only thing they could realistically do by going into further debt to renew their facilities and increase spending on their FD - they'd be unable to retain talent if they were still in the burnt out portables. The interest on the debt is a yoke we have removed but they have to carry. The salary cap means North is not in a worse position than us - provided they can continue to pay 100% and the AFL doesn't demand that they cut back as a condition of the extra AFL funding they receive. The AFL needs 18 teams for 9 games to maximise broadcast revenue - North is guaranteed to survive the next 5 years - somewhere.

Correct .

But when you are in a 'false economy' like the one we find ourselves with GWS - you have to pay more than you want to.

I'm sure that Frawley at 25 when he is on the same he is on at 22 will be paid 'under market.'

I'd leave it to Tim Harrington to sort out, they would have thought about this.

I don't know the stats but we must have near the most top 5 picks. We have talent, and that talent means demand, and that demand means we will be handing over a lot of dead presidents.

I realise that term is american, I just like it.

Paying over market is such a subjective thing - based on how Woey plateau'ed we paid over the odds for his last contract - he never really improved from his brownlow year in fact he was less damaging probably due to the extra attention he received - but lets look at Greeny who also held out for a better deal on his last contract his first year into his new contract - fabulous and now he is captain and has really stepped up a gear.

Has Carlton overpaid for Judd ? - probably not on the basis of his first two years performance.

A crystal ball would a handy addition to my armoury

Woewodin, Yze, White, and Bruce were great servants of this club.

Scully, Trengove, Watts, Frawley, et al. are a different talent rating.

If we overpay, we might actually get what we paid for...

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
