I think we should have a good look at him as he is a 22 year old 193 cm player who can play forward and have a little go in the ruck like Dunn does. He is certainly a better option than Juice or Thorp who a few are spruiking. I am sure the FD will have a good look at him. He may not be for us but worth a discussion.

This bloke has been discussed ad nauseum and far more than he deserves.

Would not be a good fit for our club at all.

One dimensional player...who has kicked 50 goals in a season. Wish Melbourne had more one dimensional players :)

We'd be mad not to look at him.

He impressed me greatly this year, could easily see him over taking any of our forwards....

You're kidding, right?

Not only is he an average player, he is only an average person. I don't think the club would bother to be honest.

Yes. If you read my first post i said NO! One dimensional player who is sh!thouse - i was responding to claims that one good year of 50 goals validated his AFL career.

Average people can be turned around by a good group. Melbourne is a good group to be in at the moment. He's a good enough player to be on an AFL list, and thus would be worth a look is all I'm saying.

Yes, i know stats are stats and don't give a huge insight to what players really do...but i semi retract my statement that he isn't AFL worthy. In 08 and 09 he average around 2.5 goals a game and has had poor form this year. I still firmly believe our forwards similar too Anthony are or will be better however he wouldn't be a bad pickup for another club.

I'd be interested to know the facts of his fall from grace at Collingwood before I make a firm opinion on him. But I do notice his defensive work rate and skills are lacking something. Forwards who don't have these skills are out of fashion at the moment and are a liability the way the game is played these days.

Posted

He had an injury the pre-season which he struggled to overcome. I think some people are a little short-sighted.

Not for MFC, but will be a handy pickup wherever he goes.

Posted

Rates himself too highly, isn't quite that good and has as many character issues as Mitch Thorp.

Posted

I want to know the real reason he fell out of favor with Collingwood before i make any call on him.

He can play...

Heard his team doesn't like him. Some members of the team would have events and he would rock up uninvited. Also, Mick wasn't happy with his second efforts and defencive pressure. There's more to this and i'm being very hazy with details, but it was early last season i heard this...

So if some players didn't like him, it may have lessened his drive to put in that 101% effort. This is why players like J Anthony should be looked at carefully. With a different group of players he may excel.

Of course if the guy is a true bad egg well then it will never work.

I just know from my own experience, many years ago- before i changed schools i didn't work very because i didn't care but with a new environment i got some high marks.

Everyone deserves a second shot. Not a third.

Think back to what happened following the GF that got Collingwood into strife... from what I've heard he wasn't far from the action.

Sure, but don't forget Colin Sylvia was seen with Alan Didak, earlier on a most infamous night a few years back, and we didn't crucify him. Many on hear like to put the knife into people merely because they wear a different coloured Jumper.

Jack Anthony has the talent to kick 80-100 goals in a season, whether he reaches that potential is pretty much up to him. He did not fit in at the Filth, which i can only imagine with all the press circling could be a bit much for some.

Does not mean he cannot shine somewhere else...

with Cameron the Bruce gone, we could pick up Anthony, and we must pick him up because, he is a jack, and we are trying to be the first club in history, to have 22 jacks in one side, we must have the most jacks in the AFL.

80-100 goal season, we still talking about jack anthony or jack watts? :P

Interesting battle to see who would get there fist.. Both Jacks have Talent.

Terrible player and person. Would add nothing to our side.

I hope Carlton takes him.

Don't know him as a person but I can confidently say he is far from terrible as a player. He would strengthen the forward line and is still very young, would make for a great PSD selection.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
