2010 Player Review - # 48 Jack Fitzpatrick

Didn’t really come close to playing at senior level but impressed many in the VFL, getting the better of Josh Fraser and Sam Jacobs along the way. Spent time up forward and is a project player - Luke Holmesby melbournefc

I suppose he's what some would call a "project player" and it's going to be interesting how he works out. Injuries to ruckmen on our list meant that he was sometimes thrust into a first ruck role at Casey well before he was physically ready. In a few games, he was beaten simply by size and strength but he kept plugging away and definitely improved. Late in the season at Visy Park he took on Northern Bullants Sam Jacobs and had a terrific duel with his bigger opponent winning a lot of the ball and kicking a couple of goals. I thought they broke even on the day. Unfortunately, he was booked in for end of season surgery and that was the end of his season while Jacobs, ironically, was promoted to Carlton's seniors and played some important games (including a final) before asking to be traded to Adelaide.

Jack has plenty of time on his side.

I have watched him at Casey quite a bit and he impresses me.

He has put in some good games but has a long way to go IMO

However never seems to give up even when things are not going his way.

Saw him against Williamstown mid season when we got belted.

I thought he was the only guy that played well for Casey that day.

It will be interesting to see him in 2011, probably needs a couple of years to show his full potential.

I've said it a few times on here, but there are some unusually encouraging rumblings being made about him. There are some that are at pains to say that he's a true find in the AFL, but never in a public forum. I feel like they're not quite sure what he'll be, or whether what they're seeing will be consistent. But whatever. If the reports are even just ok for a kid his build and his age, then that's enough for me at this stage. Can't wait to see him in 2012.

Ahhh, so Fitzy is the new no. 48 I see...

I can wait with this kid. Have heard people talk quite highly of him on SEN. Needs 2-3 solid pre-seasons under his belt.

I see Jack playing the role that we wanted Hale for.

Playing out of the goal square and 5 or so minutes a quarter in the ruck. Maybe not next year, but maybe 2012, depends on his body development. More agile than Hale ATM.

Early on I said to some prominant members that I didn't think he'd cut it but I was also there at Visy Park where he took on Jacobs & co.-and I felt he held his own before tiring. If he can get himself fit- due to his health condition he will make it- actually could be more than alright. I also saw him in the Under 16's where I thought he was as good as Butcher as a developing key forward player. Good luck Jack, I hope you make it.

Yep. I chatted to Schwabby about Fitz around mid season, and he seemed pretty enthusiastic about his prospects, while acknowledging that his kicking needs some work.
