The missing players were all injured late last season, so it makes sense that they're not playing.

Was looking forward to seeing Tapscott and Blease, but I was honestly just clutching at straws as neither were going to make their AFL debut in China!

So why are we even doing this rubbish?

Anyone know how much $$ the club get for doing this?

I wonder whose pre-season will be ruined...

Yours, by the sound of it. Hope there's no injuries and just enjoy the fact that we get something to talk about during the off-season.

Anyone got the Brisbane team? Do they even have 22 left?!

I did hear it but I couldn't name the team. Mostly kids. Jonno Brown & 2 others going (for promotional duties) but not playing.

Shanghai Tour is for 2 weeks from Oct 10-23.

The match is played on Oct 14.

Not televised to Australia - only in China where it is expected 300 million people will be tuning in!!

The MFC are unable to use Twitter for match progress due to restrictions but they say they'll put something up on the website.

To all that are going, I wish for the safest trip and hope you all have an absolute ball!!! Cam Schwab is very pleased at what this trip means and is happy that the core group will all be there together as he says this is the group that will spend the next 10 years together. Strong words.

Go Dees.

Game is actually played at 2.15 (Shanghai Time) (5.15 Melbourne Time) on SUNDAY 17th October.

No Johnson. End is nigh IMO.

Also no Bruce, Davey, MacDonald or Rivers.

Bruce is overseas; Davey is injured.

Unsure of MacDonald and Rivers.

Pretty sure the whole team will be making the trip as Cam Schwab has said he is excited that the "group that will be working with one another over the next 10 years are making the trip".

Davey will make the journey. Ditto Rivers and Joel Mac. Jones will go also.

Brucey seems to be a bit on the outer...

What about Nathan Jones. Is his back OK? He did manage all 22 games this season.

Jones is obviously still overcoming his back injury. As per his "tweets", he's back into training back still cautious.

Oh and one last thing..... CHENEY IS PLAYING!!!! ;)

HERALD SUN WEBSITE states:

"Up until Monday, the Lions had just 16 players confirmed for the game and up until Friday the most experienced was 76-game midfielder Cheyne Stiller.

But key defenders Jed Adcock and Daniel Merrett and midfielder Amon Buchanan have since been added, injecting more than 330 games experience into the squad - which is more than the other players put together."

"Ironically there's no shortage of senior Lions players making the trip, with skipper Jonathan Brown, veterans Simon Black and Luke Power and now Fevola going only for promotional and sightseeing purposes."

Ok. Prediction time. Demons by 88 points.

I think we tried doing a trade with the Chinese but they wouldn't budge on their offer. One extra spring roll would have probably clenched the deal.

i would actually trade michael newton for 3 prawn dumplings and 2 spring rolls. please note, that i would be the only one who gets them, and they would not be for sharing.

Does anyone know what kind of pitch we are playing on? I'm not aware of any stadium in Shanghai with dimensions large enough for our game. Most of the stadiums there have soccer pitches with running tracks around them. Are we going to play on an open field or some smaller weird shaped pitch?

I did find out where it will be played. Its the Jiangwan Sports centre. I looked at Wikmapia and it certainly looks long enough to play a decent game of AFL but perhaps a little narrow.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
