Shanghai Tour is for 2 weeks from Oct 10-23.

The match is played on Oct 14.

Not televised to Australia - only in China where it is expected 300 million people will be tuning in!!

The MFC are unable to use Twitter for match progress due to restrictions but they say they'll put something up on the website.

To all that are going, I wish for the safest trip and hope you all have an absolute ball!!! Cam Schwab is very pleased at what this trip means and is happy that the core group will all be there together as he says this is the group that will spend the next 10 years together. Strong words.

This match will attract as much interest from Chinese in China as the Chinese Badminton or Ping Pong team would attract from Australians if they toured over here.

I just got back from China. In all my my dozen or so visits there I've never heard anything mentioned about Aussie Rules in their sports media. Never ever.

If they put the Chinese table tennis or badminton team on TV, I'd watch it. Accessibility is usually the biggest hurdle for interest to overcome. Humans (especially me) are lazy, but if it's on TV, chances are much higher whatever it is will be watched.

Accessabilty is indeed a hurdle. ICS is a niche channel catering mainly to homesick English speaking expats. It's profile in China would be much like our Channel 31. And who watches that? I doubt many of our members. There's lots of cultural stuff from China there including sport. There would be almost certainly more expats watching the game than actual Chinese.

But still, if they put the Chinese badminton team on channel 31, let me know, because I would watch it. But I certainly hear your point about exactly who would be watching ICS and I understand that "niche" sports - even if they are heavily followed in their home country - often only raise interest from those who already like the game (ie expats, rather than native Chinese).

If 2% of Chinese tune in it will probably be the most watched game in Aussie footy history.

ICS would never get anywhere near 2% Chinese viewership not even in the Shanghai area. Given the aggressive nature of the game I doubt it would appeal to many Chinese anyway. The kind of aggression displayed in AFL would be an affront to Chinese cultural sensibilities.

I,m not going to drag politics into this. The biggest aspect of our game that the Chinese would find baffling is all the pushing, shoving, trash talk, posturing and general lack of politeness by players on the field. Even more baffling to them will be when players shake hands after the game and all is well as if nothing has happened. A key aspect of Chinese behaviour is maintaining "face" in dealing with anyone. To lose your temper or show visible anger shows that you have lost "face". To humiliate someone is making them lose "face" and that is a big no no also. A person that loses face too often by bad behaviour or makes others lose face is not well respected. Also in China you won't find the typical football yobbo that you find in Europe or over here that doesn't mind participating in or like watching bad behaviour by sportsmen.
