21 to Viney...it's 12 backwards :)

I think McKenzie to switch to the 23 - came off the Rookie List just like Junior and his football skills have been likened to that of Junior.

Posted

Mckenzie only just got 13 from Yze, hes not going to change now.

They only hand down the low numbers to players who have played games, Blease wont get a low one yet.

My guess is Bail will slip to one of the low ones, my guess is 21

My guess..

Blease is a monty for # 7.

Strauss - # 17 from 47

Bail - # 23 from 44...Junior's number sits nicely with him IMO

Bennell - # 21 from 43

Posted

a lower number could also be given to our first draft pick so what ill sit on is that

7 to bail

17 to first draft pick

21 to blease

23 to have a rest this season

Bail asked for 44 when Valenti went (Bail was 41 in '09), so it must have some meaning to him.

Thanks Nasher.

I guess that would mean no change for him.

I liked the suggestion of 23 for Jordie but he obviously won't change from 13 now.

Here's a suggestion...

No change.

Why supporters associate low numbers with better players remains one of the biggest mysteries IMO. Bennell's carving out a spot in the team wearing number 43. Why must he change?

Agree. See Jeff Farmer. No success in the no.8

I was disappointed when Liam went from 48 to 24 - thought that he may be only half the player he was before, but other than his injury he continues to excite.

Have to better than one example, than Farmer. What about when he went back to 33? He then took off!

There will be changes. Firstly, Bennell has yet to carve anything into the team and was lucky to play as many games as he did this year, I like him, but a bad example for this argument.

What about Stynes, 37 to 11?

Tingay - 52 to 15 to 2

Spalding - 35 to 5

I was going to start at about 1987 and name players for you, but I can't be bothered. The 3 above are 3 of my all time favs and that's enough examples for now.

Plenty change to low numbers, always have, always will.

Wasn't it his number in the clubs he played for previously?

What you've done there is find examples of good players who changed number from a high one to a low one. You haven't explained why this has to happen. It is just unnecessary. I say, if you've played even one game in a number, stay in it for your career. Who knows, maybe if Bennell stays in 43 he'll become the greatest ever player to wear 43.

I think Jurrah should go back to 48

SECONDED. Cult player, cult number.

Exactly. And I know he was honoured to have Robbo say 'I want Jurrah to wear my number' but I want Jurrah to be handing 48 down to our next superstar 10 years from now.

Wonaeamirri should have stayed as 39 too.

Hopefully our players start to realise that you can develop your own history and significance in the number you're given.

Oh well. I'm not sure who makes these decisions.

The Jurrah one [censored] me off. What other good player has 48 on their back? No one.

I only stated, matter of fact that it does happen. If Bennell wants to make a career and a name of out 43, that's great! My opinion was that he is a fair way from establishing anything as yet, let alone his number.

I've got nothing against players that want to keep any number they choose to, but I would be confident to say that the majority move to a lower number.

The guy who took 48 after him...

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
