This article tells us nothing new and there's no reason to panic.

The kid has always had to agree to a father-son, or not. Nothing's changed.

Wouldn't mind Todd coming over as an assistant though!

Lets not forget that Jack goes to the same school Trengove and Tapscott went to and played in a premiership with the two boys in school footy. I am sure they could have a word to him... even so why wouldn't he want to come and play with his old team mates and win a few more premierships!!!!

yes trengove and tapscott went to the same school as jack viney...isn't it interesting how melb gave Trengove and Tapscott a three year deal...ties in well with viney being available.

I think the jack viney thread will become the longest thread on demonland!

Its pretty simple really the ONLY club that jack can garantee he will get to at this stage is MFC if he wants to take his chances and Melbourne is not his prefered destination than thats his choice as for the GWS picking him up and then trading him its all a bit comlex but this also means that he HAS NOT chosen MFC as his club of choice.

The ball is in his court Melbourne have obviously made there intentions to him and his Dad known and the options on the table.

From a supporter point of view i would not Boo anyone who chose not to play for the MFC, but i will happely welcome him!

Isn't Jack born and bred in Melbourne?

I understand Todd is from SA but I thought Jack had lived in Melbourne all his life up until 2 or 3 years ago, when Todd left the Hawks for the Crows.

Bingo. Jack is now 16/17??? For 14/15 of those years he lived in Melbourne. His life is basically in Melbourne. Plus there's the huge factor of playing at the G every week as well. Geez, playing at AAMI or the 'G (that's a tough one)..........or even in the middle of NSW. I do find it funny how so many have gotten extremely paranoid over 'losing' Viney. We haven't even got him yet. Melbourne have been in His and Todd's ear for quite some time, Adelaide are just panicking because they feel they are getting robbed of a player who has only played 8 or so games this year. Boo Hoo.

Jack Viney WILL become a demon. I will not mention names but he has already signed with a well known football manager. That manager is personal friends of mine who also looks after many on our list. We had a discussion about JV (and others) while skiing a couple of weeks ago. Jack will nominate Melbourne under Father/Son.

The fact that Adelaide is prepared to put such effort into someone who is for them a complete long shot is further evidence on how highly this kid is regarded in football circles. If the 2012 National Draft was today he would be the number 1 draft pick with daylight to the next player. Word is that he would be good enough for AFL senior football round 1 next year let alone round 1 2013. He will be our Joel Selwood

If Jack is looking for certainty then he has only one option - Father/Son pick for the MFC. This bid from Adelaide smacks of desperation - I think they may have had a quick look at their list and come to the conclusion that desperate times call for desperate measures. A "Hail Mary' approach to recruitment if you like.

Every other option is open to so many variables - enter the draft and possibly end up anywhere in the country. More than likely one of the GWS priority picks will snap him up. If he is the quality player we are all led to believe him to be, why would GWS entertain the prospect of on-trading him? Doesn't make much sense to me.

If he chooses Adelaide as his club he then has to rely on Adelaide to get the deal done - more than likely with GWS and from where I sit that would be a long-shot at best. If he takes the gamble on Adelaide there is a better than even money chance he will be setting up house in Cabramatta, Lakemba or Punchbowl at the commencement of his life in the AFL. Frankly you wouldn't wish that on your worst enemy.

In all likelihood, sanity will prevail and Jack (providing he is good enough of course!!) will be a long term MFC player - and hopefully an integral part of our next Premiership team.

If he chooses the MFC then he at least has some control over his own destiny which I am sure is far more preferable than the lottery of the AFL draft.

I agree, a totally speculative article and smacks of total desperation on behalf of the Crows if they are trying to formulate such ridiculous strategies to secure a 16 year old. I don't see what could possibly be benficial in this deal for GWS, and if Adelaide is so desperate to secure him (assuming its because he's supposed to be an elite talent and not just so he can possibly play under his father) then why would GWS participate when they would be the first ones in line to draft him if he chose not to come to MFC? Pathetic, and remember it was Adelaide's recruiter that was whinging earlier in the year about all the concessions given to gold coast and GWS when they realised they were caught with their pants down with too many veterans on their list...

I have read somewhere that Joe Daniher would give him a run for his money??

Does this also fuel the stereotype that Melbourne supporter are too busy skiing in winter to attend the games? ;)

While we are on the topic of Jack Viney. I’m just trying to put myself in his shoes and wonder what would attract him to the option of playing with the MFC.

Obvious there would be some allure of playing for the same club as you father, but this might be dampened a little by his father’s more recent involvement with other clubs (I understand Jack actually follows Hawthorn).

I would imagine the idea of playing alongside some highly rate young players would be exciting as well as playing for a club that has become highly respected off the filed with new facilities and heading towards a stronger financial position. What do others think? Would he have consider a range of factors or leave it up to his manager?

Without being biased... I would think playing with the Demons would be incredibly attractive considering where we'll be in 2012. Our list is strong and exciting.

He clearly loves the Dees as he trains in a Melbourne guernsey.

And I know I (along with many!!) would love to play for the team my old man would play for.

It's all up in the air and ultimately up to Jack. I would hope that closer to 2012 Jimmy Stynes would pay him a little visit.

Its really very simple

Either he chooses Melbourne under the father and son rule or he goes into the draft

Its really up to Jack

Ahh, the joys of being a Demon - depressed one minute and paranoid the next.

Jack grew up here in Melbourne up until year 9 where he went to Carey so i presume he wouldn't find it tough at all coming back with all the mates he would have down here so i am pretty comfordent he will come play with the mighty dees

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
