I missed this yesterday after being laid up:

Does anyone have a link to this story below, from yesterdays Age?

The Age

Dees determined to get better

By Michael Gleeson

MELBOURNE captain James McDonald and veteran Brad Miller, who were cut by the club last week, met the board this week and spelt out concerns in the football department. They are concerned that while the club is making big advances off the field in wiping out debt and on the field in regenerating its list, its football department is still not functioning as well as it might. McDonald and Miller raised issues over player welfare, particularly support for the club's younger players.

I agree that this is nothing more than due dilligence and frank discussion is a welcomed thing at MFC. I certainly hope Junior takes a up a key role with the club in the future.

I am a little curious as to how this quote came about: McLardy said he "did not get the impression" from either player of any distance between football operations manager Chris Connolly and coach Dean Bailey. If there was a direct question regarding this I can understand.

I hope and presume it was a direct question. If I was a journo it would be the first question I'd think off when I heard players met with the board to discuss the football department.

I think this is a sensible thing to do from the board. I don't want the board messing with the football department as many clubs boards do, but I understand that the board makes very important decisions regarding the FD and they must be in the know. Sitting down with Junior and Miller would get you very valuable insight. I think having Schwab as a CEO is a benefit in this regard as well. I don't know every CEO in the comp but its safe to say Schwab would be up there in his knowledge of how AFL football departments work.

Probably around the mark of CC being footy op's manager to a role he actually applied for (Bailey's). Seems to be one that pops up from time to time from the media. Any hint of this and the media would report it I suggest.

McLardy seems to have knocked it out with a blunt 'did not get that impression'.

Good to hear that the club is open to all discussions to improve every aspect of this club.

So many areas were obviously left untouched for years...Junior would have seen so much go by him since 1997.

Don't be scared of criticism Demons-Learn from them. B)

Looks as though it is a direct question that has been answered honestly. No story here.

Yeah, definitely the most likely scenario.

It seems on the surface to be a type of exit interview, all good organisations should do them

I think good organisations do do them.

It's a good culture trait - getting ahead of problems that may arise or have arisen in a small way.

This type of honesty fades quickly, though.

Comfortability and complacency will do that.

I think good organisations do do something with the information gathered from the exit interview. Most do nothing to learn from them.

Hmm....

Club publicly notes concerns raised about the young player development and support.

A Western Australian newspaper (was it the Freo times? :S )runs a story on how Woey is expected to move into AFL coaching ranks for next season, citing his particular aptitude for develpoing and getting the most out of young players.

Just a coincidence?

Well, yes, almost certainly.

Scully & Trengove are going to East Fremantle?!

Are you suggesting their publicly opening doors, for some to enter?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
