Alright... so here's the last chance.

McKenzie: 10 kicks, 7 handballs, 4 marks, 2 frees for, 7 TACKLES

Watts: 9 kicks, 3 handballs, 8 MARKS, 1 tackle

Sam Reid (SYD): 9 kicks, 4 handballs, 8 marks, 1 tackle, 1 goal

Sam Reid was impressive but a similar game to Watts over the weekend.

C'MON JORDIE BOY!

TDL from Sydney was pretty good, 3 goals from about 15 touches.

But I reckon Jordie will get the last nod for his overall season, Healy was pretty hot on him yesterday to Hird who is a selector. Hopefully this helps Jordie as it is a deserved nom.

As Healy stated, when Jordie was put in the middle yesterday, we got the ball out.

Dennis-Lane is ineligible, having turned 21 last year. However, I wouldn't be surprised if Jordie is overlooked yet again. As I've said before, just does what needs to be done with a minimum of fuss, and without drawing attention to himself. Junior junior indeed.

Jordie would have to be the unluckiest of all the eligible players given the consistent level he achieved for most of the season. Clearly suffered for not having one outrageously dominant performance. Still, as Brett Kirk and our own JMac have proved over long and successful careers, you don't need to have a profile to be a very valuable contributer.

Congratulations Jordie on a great season. Bring on 2011.

I think Jordie actually suffered because we had three other winners and the AFL obviously didn't want to have too many from one team.

Bit disappointed for Jordie I reckon Morabito has been underwhelming this year and on any measure, apart from goals kicked Jordie has his measure.

I guess they just wanted to give it to a high profile player and that's not Jordie.

For those who pay attention to this silly award - what do Jonathon Brown, Dane Swan, Gary Ablett Jnr, Jack Watts and Jordie McKenzie have in common? That's right, they never got a rising star nomination. But Brent Hartigan did!!

Exactly, the only reason I enjoy our players getting a nom is that we get an extra interview or insight into that player, and a bit of video on the award night coverage.

But in the end it means nothing.

We have all seen how good he is in close, how well he tackles and how much his kicking has improved. He's a gem, and will be for some time.

Just a massive bonus to have him in there amongst Scully, Trengove and Jizz. I'm happy with that.

Is there a formula for selecting a rising star nom each week? Or do they just make it up as they go along, like the tribunal, rules of the game etc...

Great article on page 78 of todays Herald-Sun by Mark Stevens . "Black Hole Swallows Dee." Sorry, can't find the link. Basically writes about how stiff Jordie is and how the rising star system is flawed!!

Very stiff Jordie. Good article.

Yep, good article by Mark Stevens, who I think is an ordinary journalist.

(Anyone hear him criticizing female umpires on the radio a few weeks back? he has some rare opinions...)

I'm convinced they must read Demonland down at HeraldSun HQ

Much prefer his idea of 4 nominations per month, rather than 1 per week. 4 per month allows for much greater flexability, rewards consistency (e.g. McKenzie) vs one good game (e.g. Gysberts). Would be a much better system.

Bad luck Jordie but well done on your year

Will be an important inside midfielder

Jordie McKenzie is "Stealth" : Goes completely unnoticed, undetected; plays under the radar; puts team first; selfless, unselfish; takes a back seat at awards time when recognition is required.

Jordie "Stealth" McKenzie - may well be undetected in a flag core group.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

Some veteran Demonland Trackwatchers ventured down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you the following observations from another Preseason Training Session. WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

A couple of intrepid Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock for the midweek Preseason Training Session to bring you the following observations. Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
