Next week is confusing as it looks like you are talking about the Richmond game. But this is more positive for our chances. Would have like to see how the dees would have done against them with cyril in it but either way.

I am pretty sure that Bartram would have gone to him and probably come out even with the form that he is in.

May be a game to bring back Warnock though to play on Roughhead...

I know that Garland played well on Buddy recently but I think that Chip may get the gig this time round.

Rioli is challenging - http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/rioli-out-for-one-but-challenging-20100803-11450.html

They are contesting the 'attemping to strike' charge which is bizarre because he clearly threw 4 or 5 punches in that attempt. None of them landed and none of them had much force behind them because he was off balance, but it is still an attemped strike, is it not?

I don't really mind if he gets off, because if we are good enough to beat them it should be with all their players available. But I hate all the [censored] they come up with to try and beat the charge. He lost the plot, threw punches. Just cop the penalty and move on you Hawthorn sooks!

Attempting to strike? Is this some new rule?

I don't recall anyone being suspended in the past for attempting to strike.

Yep. Going by your count there were 4 or 5 attempts too. The Hawks will come up with something to beat it.

They'll need every player against us. :)

Sounds like the Sideshow Bob quote; "Attempted murder? Now honestly, did they ever give anyone a Nobel prize for Attempted Chemistry?"

Barry Hall did, against Shane Wakelin, when he came back from his suspension after the Staker incident.

It's a bit offputting that someone can get suspended for attempting to punch, which therefore means making no contact, when Judd can draw blood from Pavlich's face with an elbow to the cheek yet get off on accout of the force being 'below that required to constitute a reportable offence'.

Sounds like the Sideshow Bob quote; "Attempted murder? Now honestly, did they ever give anyone a Nobel prize for Attempted Chemistry?"

Haha, classic.

But I guess the rule is there to try to stop this kind of thing from happening in the first place.

That really is a blow.

I feel so sorry for him and Hawthorn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I suppose it will be interesting viewing this weekend with the hawks as a loss to either side will be a huge dent in their finals chances

I thik we sort of have to hope the Hawks win, which is something I'm not feeling very good about doing. If we are to make the finals, you'd think it'd be at Sydney's expense, so the fewer games they win, the greater our chances of claiming their spot in the Eight become.

Don't think Rioli played in round 1. Or Franklin. Or Burgoyne. And a couple of other important players. Didn't help us too much. It is their game-plan and structure that has killed us in the past. We haven't been able to get through their defensive zone setup. If we have worked this out since last we met, we might have a chance. But if our ball use is poor, it wouldn't matter if 5 more players were missing, we'd still lose because they are a disciplined and well-structured mob. It will be VERY interesting to see how far our ball use and confidence to take on their zone has progressed since R1.

Rioli is handy for the hawks. He will be missed.

Hawks fans seem to have chalked this one up as an easy win. Hopefully not having Rioli will make them re-access the game.

Improve our chances??? Remember Round 1? We got absolutely FLOGGED by a Hawthorn outfit with NO RUCKMEN, no Franklin, no Rioli, no Burgoyne, no Gibson, no Sewell and no Bateman!!

In all seriousness, Rioli won't make much of a difference come Round 20. The Hawks ooze class elsewhere.

I think it is worthwhile to write off Round 1. Personally, I wouldn't take much notice of that game. That performance was poor. The difference between Rd 1 & Rd 2 in many aspects was miles apart.

I'm sure the game is not forgotten and it will be a much more determined Demon outfit than Rd 1.

So we might as well give up then, huh?

Rioli is over rated - it will hurt the Hawks a little but i dont think it will have a major impact on our chances at all

Disagree that he is over-rated. He is quite amazing.

As for our chances, well I don't expect us to beat Hawthorn, but Rioli being out makes it easier.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
