I thought Jammie Bennell deserved a nomination for his game against Port in Darwin - 3 goals etc. Fyfe got the nod taht round, but JB's stats were better. Guess that becasue he's not a high profile draft pick he doesnt get noticed ?

Bennell played more than 10 games last year, he's ineligible. He got 16 touches and 4 goals in Darwin, but Fyfe got 23 touches, 7 marks and 5 tackles. It would've been 50/50 if he was eligible though

Martin would've won quite easily on this year. Not just one bloke does but he has made a huge difference to that Tiger side which is quite an achievement. First year and carrying team mates to better levels is something.

Rockliff has played off a half back flank picking up cheap possessions on the switch of play, keepings off, etc. He doesn't compare to the young mids learning the caper the hard way. There's a reason why Scully, Trengove and Hannebery have at various stages started the game with opposition tags and Rockliff is allowed to run free.

Rockliff won't place in the top 5. Good Dreamteamer though.

This isn't a knock on Rockliff as he's been a great pick up. He would have been a Demon, as he trained with us, if the Lions didn't pounce in the PSD.

Gotta be Rockliff for me. He's been phenomenal this season, and if he were in red and blue, no doubt everyone here would be talking him up. Statistically, he is the most prolific ball-winner of the young midfielders eligible this year also.

I like the end of your post as it eases the insult in the first statement. I know what you're saying and agree somewhat however, as has been said often before, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. With that in mind I hope to see no praise for Jack Grimes' early career "stats" from you. For the record I voted Trengove, and think it's realistic. Rockliff second and I like Bastinac as 3rd. All to move down a place if Martin was eligible.

HT - No joke here mate. I really rate the kid, and i was one of those who were sceptical of him pre-drafting. Something about an "undersized marking forward with limited pace/athleticism but natural footy nous"... that didn't sound completely appealing. I felt he might not be able to produce his junior form against men. What he's turned out to be this year has really surprised me after playing just the one match last year.

I've seen a lot of Brisbane games this season (one of my best mates is an old 'Roys supporter, we watch a bit of footy together), and there is a LOT to like about Rockliff. Although not quick, he reads the play quicker than everyone else, is a strong mark, great evasive ability, and has, whilst not elite at this stage, very very good disposal. Yes, playing off-half back can inflate stats somewhat, but he has also spent some time in the guts and been equally impressive in there.

To me, he is the Brisbane Lions' list equivalent to Jack Grimes. If he were a Demon and had performed the same way for us, there's a fair chance the majority here would be all over him ahead of Trengove for the RS.

There's a reason that he took so long to get his nomination.

I first liked Rockliff when I saw him at the G in 2008 playing for Vic Country. He kicked 4 and took some really nice grabs. I like him as a player, but understand why he didn't get picked up in the ND.

I just don't value (as much) cheap possessions in the back half these days. And nearly all of his footy has been played there this year since Banfield was preferred as their smaller forward, which is why he couldn't get a game at the beginning of the year. They sent him down back and he's thrived. He's a good mark and uses it well.

He's had a lull after having his wisdom teeth out, but I think he'll finish strongly.

Regardless of stats, I've seen footy smarts beyond his years at times.

And I haven't seen any other contenders have 40 touches this year.

Rating him below Martin, Trengove or Hanneberry maybe, but Bastinac? Rockliff?

Probably the closest thr RS has been for years. I voted Jack Trengove on the assumption that he will be back next week or the week after. I have him just a whisker ahead of Hannebery at the moment.

2. Scully (is really starting to play more consistently and has more of a WOW factor than Trengove IMO)

3. Rockliff (i want to put trengove here but Rockliff has had a very consistent season no a struggling Brisbane team. He's continually racking up 20+ possessions per week)

Note: Martin would have had to have been favourite if not for him being ineligible due to tribunal charges.
