Thats the most fun I have had in a long long time.

Huge apologies to Jetta, Tapscott, Jonesy, Woenamirri, Rivers, Fitzparick, Dunn, Cheney, Bail, Gawn, Mcnamara, who will all play plenty of football that year because we're always going to have injuries.

Give me that forward 6 on the park every week next year, and I'll be a happy happy man!

I know he's not playing a lot, but can't wait for Sam Blease's speed off half back.

With respect to some guys who I think will have retired, or who haven't yet had the opportunity to show what they might become....

Why?

B Jones is a hard nut who will be a little underclassed to be in our midfield, but who's energy, hardness and devotion make him a necessity. He'll serve us well down back.

Frawley needs no explanation.

Strauss is a bit of a gamble. He's a beautiful kick and provides run out of the backline. Needs to improve a bit.

HB Grimes will be a general.

Warnock will be the gorilla keeper.

Garland will be the guy who can take small or tall, and will punish the opposition on the rebound.

C Bail will be a premiere wingman. I'm sure I'll get pasted for this, but I love the way he goes about it.

Gysberts has amazingly clean hands and time in trafffic. He will be a beauty at pivot.

Davey - get your best players around the ball. Could have put him anywhere in the middle.

HF Sylvia gives some physical presence and can kick a goal or two given the opportunity.

Watts. Hmm. I have the feeling he'll be a ripper, but it's a bit of a way of.f He's a great kick and a great contested mark. I hope he learns to run ti the right spots soon.

Morton reads the play well and has a big motor. We're playing him all over the place at the moment, but his real worth will be as a marking forward.

F Green will still have plenty to give and thankfully for him, by this time, we won't need him to stop-gap all over the ground. Will demand a quality backman to cover him.

Dunn. Ok, I'm hearing crickets. He's the same height as White, he's built, he has physical presence. The opposition cannot afford to ignore him.

Jurrah will do some magic from a pocket. Expect some hangers over the pack. Just let's not make him a KPP.

Foll Jamar. Who else would you pick? Dunn can swap with him for a rest here and there.

Scully - no explanation required.

Trengove - tossed up here over a HB position, but once again, get your best players around the ball.

I/C Moloney. I'd expect him to be rotated through the middle, especially when the heat is on. I/C doesn't mean what it used to.

McKenzie will relieve Gysberts in the guts. High intensity rednut who will bury p[layers in a tackle.

Tapscott - purely spectulative, but footage I've seen shows him to be a nice kick and a hard nut - he'll relieve Sylvia at rest times and will do well.

Bennell will give great forward pressure and kick 3 in our grand final win in 2013 or 2014.

Looking at everyone's lists i'm very VERY surprised so many people have left Bate out of the side. I could rate him too highly, but i would say he is easily in our top 22 players now and i don't see that changing over the next couple years.

I mean he's 192cm, a good leading mark, a great kick from goal (even from outside 50) and he's mobile. I would think he'd make a great 3rd tall in the forward line beside watts and probably fitzpatrick in a couple years time?

Do many of you not rate him as a player. Also, i've noticed a few people have left Garland out of their team. Are you kidding me. This guy is so valuable to our team as a versatile backman in the ryan hargrave mold. He's quick enough to play on smalls, but tall enough to play on talls and being solid enough with his disposal that he can provide good support to our midfielders bringing the ball out of the backline.

I'm not trying to criticise some of you guys, but just left puzzled by the ommission of these two from so many teams.

FB: Garland Warnock Strauss

HB: Grimes Frawley Morton

C: Sylvia Trengove Blease

HF: Davey Watts Tapscott

FF: Green Jurrah Wonaeamirri

Foll: Jamar, Moloney, Scully

Int: Jones, Jetta, Gysberts, Bate

Main points:

-Green and Davey to be mainly inside 50m players

- Tapscott will make it as will Blease. Their foot skills pushing out the likes of Gysberts and Bennell in terms of talent at the M.F.C.

-I put Watts in there. I think he will make a '40 goal per year' CHF. Not great, but considering what he has showed thus far, I'll take it.

-Bate's turning circle and fumble fingers below his knees are his main concerns at this point. Fringe player.

Pettard playing for Gold Coast?

Otherwise i gotta agree pretty good looking team. I have a feeling it will be Petterd instead of Wona, but hopefully Wona comes good post his injuries

That's why opinions are just that Nasher.......I would say that this is why threads like this are a bit of fun. Look back at who you did/didn't rate, who came on, who didn't.

Anyways....I'll name mine looking at exposed form for the Dees, Under 18's & Casey form I've seen, but wont include players that are not yet at the club (Viney - not seen him play, not even on out list yet) no apologies to anyone as it is mere fantasy football.

B - Garland, Warnock, Strauss

H/B - Grimes (VC), Frawley, Davey

C - Scully, Gysberts, Morton

H/F - Sylvia, Watts, Tapscott

F - Wonaeamirri, Jurrah, Petterd/Bate....(I'd put Bennell here and Bate or Sylvia to the bench if no Rick P)

R - Jamar, Moloney ©, Trengove

Inter - Fitzpatrick/Gawn, Blease, McKenzie, Rivers

Emer - Bennell, Jones, Jetta,

I'll stick with Rick Petterd still playing for us until I see him in GC....add in Bennell if no Rick P. Fitzpatrick or Gawn by 2013?? Purely gone with Fitzy cause I liked seeing his goal live for Casey on Saturday & others I've seen like this, he looks good.

Anyway I look at it, it looks a premiership winning team to me!! ;)

McDonald retire end of 2010, Bruce 2011, Green 2012.

Interesting back line...

So, looking to a 2013 team:

FB: Bartram Warnock Garland

HB: Grimes Frawley Bail

C: Morton Moloney Blease/Tapscott

HF: Sylvia Watts Bate

FF: Green Jurrah Davey

R: Jamar Scully Trengove

INT: Gysberts McKenzie Jones Gawn

EMG: Jetta Bennell Martin

Bartram's ahead of Cheney/Rivers/MacDonald at this stage, Warnock is hit-and-miss, he might be past it; Garland with a lot of versatility

Grimes - out and out superstar, possible captain; Frawley's a gun; Bail could be handy.

Morton - obvious choice; Moloney, critical in the guts and possible captain; and Blease or Tapscott - one of them should come good?

Sylvia and Bate making up a dynamic forward line; and Watts - that is all.

Green with experience and poise, and Jurrah and Davey - the Aboriginal boys dominating the forward line.

This is with the assumption of Petterd to GC17

Jamar, should still be good; Scully and Trengove, tied for the Brownlow.

Interchange - Gysbert's a gem, McKenzie for some toughness in the guts, Jones ditto, and Gawn - anything could happen.

Unlucky to miss - Jetta, Bennell, Wona, Martin

At the risk of looking stupid, I'll give this a crack

B: Viney, Fitzpatrick, Garland

HB: Grimes, Frawley, Tapscott

C: Morton, Trengove, Blease

HF: Sylvia, Watts, Bate

FF: Jurrah, Gawn, Wonaeamirri

R: Jamar, Gysberts, Scully

Int (from): Jones, Bennell, Davey, Jetta, Petterd, McKenzie, Bail, pick 12 2010, pick 18 2011,

(likely Davey, Petterd, McKenzie, Jetta)

Yeah but you're not fooling anyone - we all know you do it the privacy of your own room.

I agree that it's a leap to include anyone who hasn't at least shown something at AFL level so those teams containing

McNamara, Gawn, Tapscott, Fitzpatrick, Blease and Strauss

have got plenty of imagination.

B: Bartram?? Warnock? Garland

HB: Grimes Frawley Davey

M: Morton Moloney Trengove

R: Jamar ??? Scully

HF: Sylvia Watts Bate

F: ??? Jurrah Wonna

I: Jones? Gysberts? McKenzie? Jetta? Bennell? Bail?

I'm assuming McDonald, Bruce and Green are gone - will Green be 33? Maybe he can do a Brad Johnson?

For the question marks above ...

The big hole is ruck relief/tall forward. I don't see Spencer in this role - he's a replacement for Jamar if necessary, not a tandem option. Miller, Johnson, Dunn, Newton, Martin - none can be even pencilled in.

The interchange is for midfield rotation so it's pointless naming backs or forwards there - those 6 all have credentials and one of them can make the starting midfield - I think we're missing a defensive midfielder - thinking of Cameron Ling.

No-one has cemented the lock-down small defender - thinking of James Kelly. Bartram has done a pretty fair job, the only alternatives currently on the list are Bail, Strauss and Cheney. Like Barts, Warnock is not completely convincing as premiership FB but there's currently daylight second IMO.

I think Petterd and Hughes are on the fringe of that forward line, Maric hasn't show enough.

Rivers and MacDonald can't break into that backline.

Bell and Meesen surely stamped.

Probably forgotten someone ...

We should have a pick in the top 10 this year and hopefully Jack Viney later on so there's plenty of water to flow under the bridge.

Do father sons have a choice where they go at all? Am I correct in saying if a club commits to the pick then the kid has to come? Just asking because Jack Viney turned his back on Sturt where Todd played but of course he hasn't been in the state that long anyway and not like Todd played a HEAP of footy with Sturt.

He is still only 15 isnt he? Hopefully a flag is already in the keeping by the time Jack comes across.

Yep. Marc Murphy could have gone to the Lions under father-son, but brown paper bags Carlton have their appeal....

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
