Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Time is standing still; that is the second week in a row that Jurrah has been 4-5 weeks.

Correct hope this is not the start of him stalling on 4-5

In terms of development, it is a bit of a shame that Tapscott, Gawn, Blease have missed this season and missed an opportunity to develop themselves as players.

It means that next year will essentially be their first year in terms of development. It means we can't expect anything meaningful from these guys until 2012.

Reckon that both Tapscott and Blease could make a quick impact given a chance. Blease may be less so as the way it is looking if he misses too many more this year he has spent the best part of 2 years on the sidelines. Hopefully he comes right because there always seems to be some attrition of draft picks where they have continual injury problems and dont quite get there. Hopefully Sammy is not one of those!

Gawn being a big guy...yeah could be 2012 even 2013! Seems light years away but will come quick and Max might take this time anyway.

Fitzpatrick was only 1 week away last week so he should be back with Casey Reserves this week fingers crossed. I'm excited about this kids development.

What's the go with Bail? No sign of him on that injury list. What's your source to suggest he will miss four. I really hate that he is not out there!

Spoke to Gawn on the weekend, said he is about 4 weeks away from really getting into proper training, running a little at the moment. Said his knee is doing well, and after 12+ months out of the game is itching to get out there

Gawn should of had LARS would of been back in 16 weeks.

Our injuries to young players is concerning Blease missing 2 years of development,

Tapscott missing what looks like most of this year.

We recruit players at 17-18 then loose them for 2- 3 years to injury before finding out

if their up to the grade.

We knew exactly what we were getting with Gawn. We drafted him injured, it's in no way 'disappointing' that he hasn't played this year, that would suggest that something unforseen had occured. I'd say it's a bonus we're getting him 3/4 of the way through the year.

Blease is one completely out of the box. You just don't see that kind of freak accident, we've been appallingly unlucky with him, still, he's back in two weeks and only missing 1 1/2 years.

Tapscott is back in 4 so will only miss half of the year.

So who is it that we're supposedly losing for "2-3 years"????

Gawn's situation: It's not disappointing to have a player out for 12 months rather than 16 weeks and miss all the development don't see how that works. I agree we knew what was coming it doesn't mean that I should be happy about it.

Blease situation: Your dreaming if you think he'll have anything like full load training or game time in 2 weeks his first 2 years

will in the most part be written off. Ballantyne,Suban, Beams, Hannebery, Bennell, Zaharakis all around the 15-30 draft range have gone past

him in development.

2-3 years maybe an exaggerattion but from time of recruitment I reckon it's what we are looking at for these

guys to be playing regularly like Scully and Trengove and we don't know if their up to it.

I think you're are being harsh regarding the Blease situation, He broke his god damn leg !!

This is not something we could see coming and this type of injury can be difficult to get back from quickly, it can take time to get over not only the pain involved but the structural issues. I think the club is handling it the best they can.

I can't understand you naming other players from the same draft, You can't see a broken leg coming when you draft someone! In terms of development, if Blease had not broken his leg, he would probably have been slightly ahead of Watts IMO.

Let's get one thing straight I've never intimated it's Blease's fault for breaking his leg

don't put words in my mouth I'm merely observing on the balance of where players are at currently

from his draft pool when he is anwhere near playing regular football he will of lost nearly 2-3

years in development. I'm not portioning blame I'm illustrating the fact the guy who I rate highly

in terms of ability will be behind by a very long way. This is, as my first point states obviously disappointing.

So if you compare apples with apples Blease compared to other players in his draft is going to be at

least 2-3 years behind.

Has anyone seen anything of Fitzy since the first intraclub game at Casey - I must say, though he looked very 'raw' he also looked talented.

Exciting that he is regarded as a KPP forward at about 200 cm .

Any updates on his development?

...

You're a damn fool - the LARS surgery can only be applied to specific knee recos.

It is not a blanket solution for anyone that does an ACL.

In any case, as ID said, we drafted him knowing full well that he would be missing the majority of this season.

Re: Blease, he has had rotten luck, but I think now that people think he is "fine" they are being a little impatient with his progress.

He will be fine in time.

Interestingly Luke Shuey at WCE who went a pick later has had possibly worse luck than Sam.

Both will be great players once their luck changes.

Don't give up on Blease just yet. I'm hopeful that he will play a handful of games by season's end.

Here's the link to Brad Gotch's player report before he got injured and he had a really good game. I saw him play with Casey in their practice match against Frankston before the Melbourne-v-West Coast practice match at Casey Fields. He looked good, really athletic, and as I've said a few times, I think he's a really good prospect, very happy to see him off the injury list.

Edit: Attaching the match report also.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
