So Bail, McKenzie and Spencer all injured?

That would be an epic loss in my mind.

I think Jordie McK. was still out there at the end, but that may be because we had limited (fit) options.

Just listened to the final ten minutes on the radio. Epic win.

I was at the game and just rode my deadly treadly home. The usual suspects for casey played well: wall, stockdale, and panozza was pretty good too.

I thought it was a pretty even effort across the melbourne boys. Hard to pick out stand out players and most of the game was played on the outer side so it was hard to see who was who. but here is my take:

Bail - i arrived 5 mins late and saw him looking very groggy walking to the dugout. Later heard a guy in melbourne gear saying he'd been taken to hospital to have a look at his jaw.

Newton - did some really good smart things and some bad things. not enough for a senior recall but he certainly has talent (we all knew that already though, didn't we?). One of the tall players who let the team down in the air (see PJ's comment)

Strauss - I thought he did really well. His kicking really stood out in what was a very very windy day, but didn't always make the right decision. Was given the job on mark williams and did well in that role generally. Could be a chance this week

Jordie - The kind of in and under game you would expect from jordie. I didn't notice any injury, and he played out the game. Would be a chance for a call up but didn't demand it.

Cheney - took one really strong mark about 30 metres out to prevent a probable goal in the third (?) qtr - it almost had me demanding his call up on its own. Generally a pretty dependable game, except when caught in defensive 50 in the last (thankfully they kicked a point). Could justify a call up IMO

Maric - I thought he was really good early. Kicking stood out throughout the day, and he kicked a couple of beautiful long goals in the first 1/4. But, he faded as the game went on and didn't feature all that much when moved into the middle in the second 1/2. had a much bigger impact up forward IMO.

PJ - I wasn't impressed with the way all of out talls competed in the air on the outer wing. bendigo repeatedly took almost uncontested marks from casey long bombs. Wasn't only PJ, but our contesting in the air was poor, and given it is his biggest weakness he will be doing nothing for his chances. Played a lot of the game early in defence and was impressive there, but there is no role in defence for him at AFL level.

Spencer - was playing ok, without standing out, before being stretched off with a leg injury. Kicked a goal.

McNamara - Pretty unobtrusive, did a job

Bell - used his big strong body well, but overall impact was limited. just ok.

Martin - not his best. muffed two chances in the goal square and did little else apart from a couple of good defensive efforts (when playing in defence - clearly where he is best suited IMO). Im a fan but you get the feeling his confidence is pretty low at the moment.

Hughes and Dunn didn't do enough. Both very good at this level but Dunn didn't work hard enough IMO and Hughes dropped a few marks he should have taken. Hughes > Dunn today.

Strauss, Jordie McK and Cheney all chances. Benny and the Jet ahead of Maric atm, but I'd have Maric in ahead of Aussie. Don't think there is room for him at this stage.

Another good day for Maric. He must be close to a call up. Thanks for your review godees. I prefer peoples opinions than who they put in the best. Sometimes it's just a lottery who goes in there!

I don't think maric will get the call up based on this game, but those writing him off completely can have a rest for a week i think.

I was at the match too. GoDees thought that was a very good summary, except you were a little harsh on Dunne. I thought he was reasonable. The trouble with him and Juice is they are very good players at this level but seem in capable of repeating it at senior level. Juice was Caseys best IMO, certainly of the listed players, took some spectacular marks and was an accurate long kick for goal, and quite clearly a cut above the rest. Will not get a recall though as he has had so many chances and has fluffed most of them.

I thought Hughes was a dissappointment also today. Was not really hard at it and dropped several overhead marks he should have taken. In fact, the Bombers outmarked us all over the field, particularly in our defence. Some of their overhead marking wAs outstanding.

Somebody I should mention is Maric. He obviously gas talent and in the first quarter with the wind was just outstanding but faded and had very little impact in the second half. The consistency of Gysberts on debut some of these guys should note. Was an outstanding 4 quarter effort from him. Something that was singularly lacking from Casey today.

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
