The topic thread here my sound a little ridiculous but isn't it great to really be feeling the loses (and of course the wins). I walked out of the 'G tonight absolutely ropeable and whilst I nearly would have kicked the cat (not literally) after a few k'm of walking and seeing the disgruntled Melbourne fans I decided that this anger/disappointment is actually a great thing. It shows we are back in the game, and we are no longer just content with an honourable loss, you could see it in the players and you could see it with the supporters. Its great to see the real passion returning!

Just some thoughts... Feel free to add your own!

I pretty much agree. The vibe in the stands tonight was great - real excitement at what we can do now, and then real passion at the loss. Tonight proved we're really arriving, and our supporters are ready.

I couldn't agree more. I was furious at the end of the game (watching it on TV) and could've strangled a field umpire. After calming down, I understood that this is the feeling of a supporter of a team that is a contender. The days of hoping for the game not to turn into a blow out are over Demonlanders. Melbourne are back!

Frustrated Yes!!

But be proud and loud. We knew we wouldnt win the flag this year. If any on told you at the start for the year that we wold take two of last years top 4 to less than a kick, you would take it. Whilst I am shattered about tonight and against Eddiewood, I was more disapointed againt the Dawks!! We will learn and be stronger! Just maintain your rage. Go Dee's!!!

No need to tell James McDonald that, 10 tackles in the wet.. nice work.

Its great to have a team to get excited and passionate about every week. :) GO DEE'S!

45 Thousand people at the game is pretty good to.

NO.

I hate losing. especially when we don't deserve to.

I agree. Our boys deserved a win tonight. We were robbed. Lynden Dunn kicked a dam goal and it was dissallowed.

But i do love the Demons and we will have success, but right now i am numb with rage, and it doesn't feel great.

Yes, we are all numb with rage. But, this year that rage becomes less and less of a time to get over. I cannot wait for next Saturday!!!

The Russian will give Nick Nat a little lesson as our midfielders take centre clearence after clearence.

I am absolutely blind with rage at the moment. I will say it again. I AM FURIOUS.

I was one of those supporters that BOOOOOOOOED after the siren, and deservedly so. I hope the Bulldogs don't think that they won some valiant win, because they had 19 players on the field tonight, one with the last name McBearnie

I can't wait for the brownlow votes this year to hear Demetriou

"3 votes, Mcbearnie

2 votes Scully....."

NO. F'ing FFFFFFFFFFFand any more derivatives of FFFFFFF you can think. of. It's not OK that we lost tonight. REALLY NOT OK. This and the CollingF'ing wood F'ing game are going to see us miss out on finals and we really deserve more. I f'ing hope we hurt like hell tonight in the rooms. I am not going to be able to look at football this week in the media. I am devastated. We were a five goal better side tonight. They just knew how to score from nothing all night long and we couldn't buy one despite multiple more efforts in fwd fifty. Every freaking thing seemed to go for them tonight. I hate the footy gods. F'ing hate them. Cry rant cry.

Everything seemed to go right for them because they had compusure and we didn't. Just like the Collingwood game.

But we will get better at maintaining our composure, as our young stars grow together and build belief that they can perform when the pressure is really on.

Then we will dominate this competition for 10 years.

Take solace in that, and the fact we will absolutely tear the Weagles apart in 5 days time!

I agree in that - I was proud of our team who were brave in defeat. Whereas we would once have lost that game by 10 goals we now have sufficient self belief to win those games. That we didnt is a credit to the dogs who showed enough poise when it counted.

I am waiting for the stats but I believe Hughes and PJ justified their selection (thankfully as a number of us called for that), Bennell showed what a live wire he can be - my perception is that Rivers and Dunne disappointed at times (not som much with endeavor) but will reserve further judgement until the stats come in.

I want two to three decades of domination by the Dees. Call me unselfish if you want. By the way anyone who thinks that Lake didn't get a hand on that ball is kidding themselves. Fwiw Green should have tried to shepherd it through instead of half heartedly going for the mark initially prior to pulling out.

PJ didn't should not have played in the wet.

What about last week.

It's a young team, so things like the Kangarros game will happen. We'll have some really good wins (Brisbane round 5) and really competetive losses (Collingwood round 2 & Bulldogs round 7). But we'll have some ordinary games also this year like against the roos. It's just the way this season will go. Having said that by 2012 I wont be accepting a loss to North Melbourne!

Do we really want to make the finals this year??

would be a great experience for the team but i think if they just miss this year the hunger will be massive next year...

Either way im looking forward to 2011 - 2014...

All the kids will have got games into the legs and will be coming on.... By then Scully should be close to a Brownlow too!!!

Posted

I am nervous about next week. If we don't dominate West Coast at the G then we have just gotten lucky against the Bulldogs, Pies and the Lions.

Teams that are for real will always man handle horrible sides like Richmond, Adelaide, West Coast, and to a lesser extent Hawthorn and Essendon. The fact that hawthorn smashed us sooooo badly in round 1 (with out franklin), makes me a bit aprehensive about this weeks game!

Posted

We will dominate them. Just like we dominated Richmond and Freo.

Don't believe that crap about Footscray and Collingwood playing badly, we are the real deal.

Posted

They didn't play badly.

But colllingwood was our second game! No one knew how skillfull our young team was, so Malthouse had no idea he had to prepare for it. They were caugh off guard. Bulldogs are old and slow, and they still smashed us in the first quater. It was good to come back and be close but i have had enough of a Melbourne side that doesn't start well then chases their tales the rest of the game. It is too hard on the players and the fans. THe last 5 years has proved that!

I think the jury is still out on us!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
